Post-Reboot
- Literally any time Mana Kogane's backstory is broached. From Treo's vision of her finding her father's corpse after he died from Hoculus, to the surveillance video of her transforming into a Shadow, to a group of Persona users experiencing that transformation first hand, it is very clear that behind that cheery, flirty personality lies a world of horrors.
- Several of the documents and tapes found by Persona users in the Ruins depict the lead-up to the Eversion and the events of it, and they are not pretty. For a few examples:
- The audio logs, which range from cautiously optimistic tapes discussing attempts to cure Hoculus, to recordings of the author's last moments before being killed in the Eversion. The award for most nightmarish goes to Log #4, where a researcher pleads for whoever's listening to not tell his dad what he'd done.
- The very simply named "ruinsvideo.mp4" - a video tape that starts innocuously with Ken Tsurugi being interrogated for trying to break into the lab, only to be interrupted by the Eversion and Tsurugi's sudden transformation into a Shadow.
- What happens if you "take a swim" in the Primordial Sea and your presence isn't approved by the Entity. While some people have left the sea with bonds of servitude to the Entity, Ren and Masumi were both disassembled and reassembled on the cellular level, over and over again. While both survived their experience, they now have a distinctive stink when scanned, showing they were foolish enough to try and make contact. In Masumi's case, she can't even talk about her experience, as any time she does, it just comes out as static.
- Everything involving Aimicchi, once you get past the cheery idol veneer. From the fact that Aimi has been possessed by her own Shadow, something she is clearly aware of and can't do anything about, to the fact that her body has been reshaped against her will into a more generically pretty form to fit society's idea of an idol, to the fact that she's been brainwashing other people into similar states as her so they can host her game shows. Every now and then, the real Aimi manages to break through the idol mask, and it is never pretty when she does.
- Overlapping with Tear Jerker, the scene where Aimi's death is shown to a group of Persona users. She's running from a "beast with too many legs", after having been defeated by something she won't even describe, only for a garotte to suddenly close around her neck. The flashback ends with her watching as her friends leave her behind as she is slowly, painfully beheaded. The worst part is that everyone witnessing the scene is seeing it from Aimi's perspective, meaning that they feel every part of it.
Pre-Reboot
- Chouko's first date with Sora definitely qualifies. It starts off innocent enough, with Chouko and Sora going to a coffee shop for a date. While there, Sora makes the mistake of ogling an older woman there. Eventually, Chouko asks if she and Sora can meet up later, and they leave. Chouko then brutally murders the woman with a meat cleaver and dismembers her, stuffing the body parts into a trash bag. She then takes the trash bag to Sora's apartment and dumps them on the floor in front of Sora. She then embraces a horrified Sora and tells him she did this to protect him. Sora's thoughts summed it up pretty well. There was a complete sociopath in front of him, and she was in love with him.
- Manabu wants to become more like his Persona. How does he go about doing this? By ripping out his eye with his bare hands. It's not described to vividly, but it was certainly disturbing enough to make most of the RPers shiver a little. The fact that he tries to eat two of the characters immediately afterward certainly didn't help.
- The caterpillar shadow introduced in the RP isn't just creepy with its Slasher Smile and overall Eldritch Abomination anatomy. It attacks by vomiting plasma and when the characters manage to begin to injure it, its exoskeleton begins to melt off and form miniatures of itself, which overwhelm the players until Sora's downward spiral into insanity prompts him to summon another Persona.
- The designs players come up with in the Random Shadow Ideas thread, when they're not being ludicrously goofy, are horrifying. Particular examples are Noest, a screaming skeleton in a coffin controlled by two statues made of chains and bone; the Vile Gargant, a WarMECH-esque monster made from decaying corpses fused together into a vaguely animal-like form; and the Vile Unbound, a corrupted Persona that parasitically implants itself in a Persona user.
- Toru goes monster and... just... just read it. In fact, go read that topic. Thing is freaky. It has a jaguar skull.
- You don't want to end up that way. was a whole lot of things, but High Octane Nightmare Fuel? Definitely one of them.
- Yuzuki before she turned nice in general was fairly creepy. Thwack. Thwack. Thwack.
- Something stinks is just as bad, if not worse- after Kohaku murders Hibiki Kurosawa, Hibiki's skinned corpse is found in the park with the message "HE'S HERE" written in blood. Then you have Chika trying to suppress thoughts fantasizing about how brutally Hibiki was murdered, and Ryoichi getting blood all over him.
- How horrendously powerful is the Reaper? Ask Hanako- she lost two arms and a leg.
- Nishiyo Sadako. Here's an example of how brutal and ruthless she can be. Her chipper behavior makes it even worse.
- Toru Watanabe's death. Sure, the dude had it coming, but his demise was extremely brutal.
- Knowing your beloved pet was just served to you by your horrible, gloating aunt.
