Even a harmless little film series like Open Season has its scary moments!
WARNING: Spoilers are unmarked.
For Open Season:
- Shaw is quite an intimidating foe with no regard for any life but his own.
- He drives his truck like a maniac while chasing Elliot down the street (nearly hitting several people).
- During the forest flood scene, Shaw drives his truck through the water firing at Boog and Elliot as they are all being washed away by the raging rapids.
- Boog stumbles across a cabin on a stormy night— only to discover that it belongs to Shaw when the bear finds several forest animals stuffed and mounted on the wall and screams in horror. For added scariness, a squirrel's head falls off one of the mantle pieces and into his paws and Boog drops the head to the floor. Then Shaw arrives home, forcing Boog to hide.
- Shaw gives his gun a blanket so it won't be cold.Shaw: There ya go, Lorraine. You get good and dry. Come morning, we got a rebellion to crush! (pulls out an antler from his vest pocket) And then, I'm gonna take back what's mine! (stabs the antler into an empty mantlepiece)
Boog: Elliot! - Then Shaw realizes his cabin was infiltrated. Boog hides under a table when he sees his stuffed teddy Dinkleman (which Shaw had salvaged from the flood). As Boog tries to discretely reach for his teddy, Shaw suddenly tosses a knife at him, impaling the table. Shaw now knows Boog's in his cabin!Shaw: Come back for your bear, Goldilocks? Ready or not, here I... COME! (flips the table over, but Boog's nowhere to be seen)
- Shaw immediately figures out Boog's down in the dark basement, and climbs down the basement and as he searches for the bear, he sings a Dark Reprise of Boog's lullaby, The Teddy Bears' Picnic. Makes you wonder how he knew about the song.
- Then as Boog narrowly manages to escape, Shaw yells in the distance.Shaw: HEY, BEAR! THERE AIN'T NOWHERE THAT YOU CAN HIDE FROM ME!
- Shaw gives his gun a blanket so it won't be cold.
- The "horror stage act" scene where the audience thinks Boog is killing Elliot violently (which they see through silhouettes on the curtains). In reality it was just Boog trying to get Elliot to leave him alone and getting him out of coats and ropes, but the implications are still quite terrifying for a comedy movie.
For Open Season 2:
- Though more Laughably Evil, Fifi still has some creepy moments.
- Due to his hatred for wild animals, Fifi charges toward a rabbit to tear him apart, upon noticing him by a dumpster. However, he stops in front of the rabbit when his owner calls him. Before leaving, he eerily warns the rabbit that he will someday teach him a lesson.
- The page image comes from a scene where some men are sitting by a campfire telling stories about a monster. Boog then approaches the men, shrouded in darkness (with his eyes appearing red), and makes a guttural growl. The men flee for their lives, so Boog and his friends can now raid their campsite.
For Open Season 3:
- Despite being the least evil of the previous two villains, Doug has his own intimidating moments.
For Open Season: Scared Silly:
- The Wailing Wampus Werewolf is a pretty frightening foe. However, he ultimately is revealed to be a harmless creature.
- The DVD/Blu-Ray menu. While it's not the menu itself (just a still shot of Boog hugging Elliot in terror, with Mr. Weenie peeking from behind him smiling), it's the music that seals the deal. It starts out as suspenseful violin/piano music, but after a few seconds, it goes quiet... until it hits you with a horrifyingly sharp screech that is sure to make your heart skip a beat.
For Open Season: The Video Game:
- Much like in the movie, Boog enters Shaw’s cabin after a flood sent him down the valley. However, he initially is looking for Elliot before realizing he’s alone. Once he realizes he’s in Shaw’s cabin, he’s promptly knocked out and thrown in the basement.
- Boog’s escape from Shaw’s cabin can be unnerving as well. Boog has to turn on the TV and sneak by Shaw without getting caught.
