  • The mansion itself is a gothic and imposing building straight from a classic ghost story. It is almost always depicted in darkness and clouds, and its massive size and surrounding graveyards add to the tension of what lies within.
  • The goat. It seemingly appears whenever and wherever it feels like, and only makes hellish screams. Its design is also unsettling, with mangled, unkempt fur and red eyes with slanted pupils. It frequently screams right at the camera and the viewers, creating various Jump Scare situations.
  • John Stamos’ cameo ends with him beckoning Pepe closer... before suddenly morphing into the Purple Frackle and roaring in his face.
  • Constance Hatchaway is as much a Black Widow as she was in the original attraction and plans to marry and kill Pepe. She almost succeeds.
    • This version of Constance is a composite of the attraction's Constance Hatchaway as well as past versions of the Bride character. Because of this, she is given other creepy features that her basis does not possess, including a glowing, beating heart in her chest that is visible when it beats and glowing red eyes that she uses to hypnotize Pepe, leaving him in a stuttering and incoherent daze, completely helpless.
    • The ghosts of Constance's past husbands explaining their grisly murders. It almost becomes comedic how gruesome their deaths are described in this otherwise family-friendly special, ranging from drownings to being chopped up to being buried alive. Walter even describes how she once went to "nibble [his] neck... before she so lovingly snapped it".
    • At one point she also tells Pepe she’s going to fatten him up to eat him and keeps feeding him grapes with spiders that he clearly is uncomfortable with.
  • Room 999. It is described as being avoided and feared by even the ghosts and ghouls of the mansion, and it's easy to see why.
    • The room is entirely filled with darkness and smoke, and all sounds echo. It is like a seemingly endless void within the confines of the mansion.
    • Gonzo's frightening and genuinely upsetting transformation within the room. As his fears begin to be brought to light, he begins rapidly ageing, and ends up shriveled and frail, with skeletal hands and long hair. He acts as though he is suffering as he goes through the ordeal, and his appearance is likely to cause discomfort in most viewers.
    • Gonzo's reflection. Is it the physical manifestation of his subconscious thoughts and fears, or is it a malevolent entity that truly seeks to hurt and kill? Whatever it is, it proves to be one of the darkest villains in the special, if not the entire Muppet franchise, taunting Gonzo with poetic and impactful lines as he rapidly ages to near-death.
  • The creature at the bottom of the stairwell to the attic. It is mostly shrouded in darkness and we only ever see its glowing yellow eyes, sharp teeth, and slimy purple tongue. It makes guttural and terrifying growls and roars, and at one point swallows Gonzo whole. Though he manages to make it vomit him back up, the viewers are left to wonder about the monster, such as what exactly it is, if it is a ghost, why it is there, and how many victims its claimed.
  • Near the end of the special, the Ghost Host tells Gonzo that he needs to leave before sunrise or be trapped in the mansion forever. The problem is Constance has Pepe and Gonzo has to Race Against the Clock to save him and get out, almost getting eaten by the creature mentioned above in the process. When the Ghost Host stops them at the front gate, you could be forgiven for thinking that they’ve failed.
  • Seeing Fozzie as the Hatbox Ghost, especially seeing him with teeth, is pretty unsettling.
