Like some nightmare creature, it plods toward the distant mountains... and toward the villages and towns and cities beyond... moving slowly, relentlessly to a terrible destiny...
• Superman is doused in magma and falls into the ocean. The water cools the magma and he drops on the bottom of the sea. If he had not managed to summon up enough to break out, he would have been stuck there forever.

• Courtesy of I-Ching's magic, Superman and the Quarmerr experience a vision of what a full-blown fight to the finish between two people with the powers of Silver Age Superman would be like. The Earth is completely laid waste, and Superman reacts with absolutely horrified guilt and despair until I-Ching dispels the illusion.
