  • For a fairly quirky series, it's easy to overlook the fact that the entire world is filled with monstrosities that are either intentionally destroying humanity, or damaging the world by being a hostile influence on the environment and ecosystem by merely existing. No one knows where they came from or why they're so destructive. The revelation of sentient Kaiju who can run the gamut of human personalities and, in Kaiju No. 9's case, be something like a Serial Killer, only raises further questions than they answer.
  • On the outside looking in, Kafka's Kaiju form is absolutely horrifying. He's a regenerating, super-powerful monster who can destroy other Kaiju with a single blow, can infiltrate human society, and has human-level intelligence. It's not hard to see why he's considered a threat. Many a panel ends up showing off just how frightening he can look, one of the prime examples being when he reveals himself to the base in an effort to stop a giant Yonju Bomb from destroying it, with one panel being Kafka backlit by the massive explosion sent into the upper atmosphere, showing his one undamaged eye seemingly glaring. Even Mina is horrified by it.
    Mina: That thing... is Kafka?
    • In addition, that parasite that changed Kafka in the first place? Not only did it turn his heart into a core, meaning it warped Kafka into a Kaiju completely, it can even take full control over him... and does so when Isao attacks Kafka with weapons made from Kaiju No. 2, making it go berserk and leaving our hero fighting to try and take back control before Isao gets killed and he himself gets completely absorbed by the Kaiju. The thought of it happening again traumatizes him enough that he has difficulty transforming during an attack by Kaiju No. 9, for fear of it happening again.
  • Kaiju No. 9's human disguise? Revealed to have come from killing someone and stealing their entire life, which he does to someone else after the identity he had before gets outed. How many times did he do this in the past?
    • We finally get to know what it actually entails: Fusing with the target, like what happened with Isao Shinomiya. Worse, if they're attuned to a Kaiju weapon, No. 9 gets to take their powers too.
  • In Chapter 45, Kafka tries to transform, only to get momentarily stuck in an Imagine Spot where he lost control of his Kaiju form... and slaughtered all of his friends and teammates.
  • Time and again, while No. 9 is proven to be a capable threat with its might, it primary threat is its cunning. After a daunting yet, oddly easy battle, it reveals that while it expected its clones to win, it's true aim was the "great Kaiju power". Cue it breaking into headquarters right behind Chief Shinomiya, current wearer of No. 2.
  • Chapter 96: After finally having a fairly easy fight compared to the earlier battles, No. 9 reveals that everything is still going as planned. It streams its location and after speaking with the Defense Force walks toward a white version of No. 14 while speaking about attaining another great power. The black No. 14 opens a gate connected to its counterpart, allowing a powered up No. 9 to teleport right to Mina Ashiro.
