Where do you go to read the latest about new tropes?
What about old tropes with new names?
How can you find the best but least linked tropes out there?
Worry no more: Trope Report is here.

Hello Tropers! Thanks for reading this weeks edition of Trope Report. Get comfortable since this is a pretty long issue. We’re full of news and changes, some good and some bad. But TV Tropes presses on and so must Trope Report! Where one goes the other is not far behind! Like two eggs in a barrel of pods or something like that except – ah who cares, on the business.

Forumwatch:\\ As per our usual course we begin with introducing our newest members. A growing site is a healthy site so let us give thanks to the fresh faces who keep TV Tropes alive and well! Everyone, say hello to:

Monacle, Mr Pillson, Greeneyedwriter 89, Kadael, I Yellalot, Juice Box Hero, Greenmantle, Tyranno Storm, Indrajet, and badgertaco!

Welcome to the forums!

Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes:
A couple of rewrites, a few name changes and a few cuts. Business as usual for the most part, Tropers. However, in continuing with changes of another sort this past month, Fast Eddie has installed a few new features that you will see below. One thing we would like to mention is that Trope Report now has its own icon button on the Main Page! On the main page of Tvtropes, right in between the Discussion and Wild Mass Guessing icons is an icon depicting a bundle of newspapers. That is the News feature and it is not just for Trope Report though. News is for all the current events going on in the world involving the media be it the latest information of the new Pokemon games or the calendar for The Whos next concert tour. News is added to work articles the same way you would make a Wild Mass Guessing or Just Bugs Me page. So if you have news on an upcoming film or videogame station please make a News page and add it there for everyone to see!

On to our regular schedule:

  • But Not Too Foreign has had its description changed to better reflect the meaning of the trope.

  • All Abusers Are Male has also had its description altered to better reflect the trope. The astoundingly large number of aversion (Which pretty much defeats the idea of all abuser being male) listed have also been mostly dealt away with.

  • Whedon'th Thyndrome has had its description cleaned up. While self-demonstrating articles can be amusing and helpful in getting the point across, a lisp in the entire description can just be confusing. Also note that this trope is pending a rename. Buffy the Vampire Slayer isn’t getting any younger, so new generations will be scratching their heads in confusion wondering why a speech trope is named after a director/writer.

  • The D Gray Man page has finally found its long lost Wild Mass Guessing, Character Sheet, Fanfic Recommendations, and High Octane Nightmare Fuel pages. The hyphenated title had been causing some confusion but that is all fixed up now.

  • Mood Of Win has been moved to Sugar Wiki. The gushing nature of the trope made this inevitable.

  • Et Arcadia Ego has been renamed into Arcadian Interlude and no, this has nothing to do with Joan Of Arcadia.

  • Magic Cam has been renamed into Surveillance Drone. This was done on the argument that Magic Cam was misleading and had nothing to do with an actual magical camera.

  • A mix up in redirects led to Fat Monica being a link to Unintentionally Sympathetic. It was supposed to lead to Unintentionally Unsympathetic. This has been fixed.

  • Hey Its That Guy is undergoing clean up and reworking. The whole "I'm not going to mention the actor's name, just pothole one character he played" thing is seriously tired.

  • Getting Crap Past the Radar has failed in getting crap past the radar. It is in for a clean-up. Tropers, do us all a favor, if you have to think really hard about whether that line in your favorite show was an innuendo then it probably wasn’t. So don’t add it to the example list.

  • And Zoidberg was a bad name. It was changed into Ladies And Alice, but this also was a bad name (called that). So now it is My Friends... and Zoidberg. Time will tell if this is a good name or not.

  • Jedi Love Triangle has been cut. Other tropes already cover its scenario, and the only Jedi in that triangle was Luke anyway.

  • Bonus Level of Hell has finally been fully divided to mean both literally hellish levels (Planet Heck) and metaphorically hellish levels (Brutal Bonus Level). Redirect fixes still pending, and the title will be cut once that issue is solved.

  • Herr Doctor has been renamed to Herr Doktor. This was a cosmetic fix, so that the name is consistently German (a common It Just Bugs Me people formerly had viewing the page).

  • Whack A Mole has been merged into Ten Little Murder Victims, as the two were the exact same trope. Troping scientists are mystified as to how this happened, as the two had differently worded descriptions and almost no overlap in examples. As a result, unlike other subjects of merges, Ten Little Murder Victims is now twice the size it was before. Whack A Mole is currently a redirect, but is currently open to being repurposed either as-
    • Being about the game Whack A Mole and its use in fiction.
    • A metaphorical title dealing with mole-whacking plots in general, as opposed to the Ten Little Murder Victims scenario.

  • Good Is Dumb has been repurposed as an index that contains pretty much any trope that the phrase "good is dumb" could possibly describe. Cutting the page and fixing all its links was considered as an option, but rejected because the Good Is Dumb Wiki Word is cool.

  • A reminder that the Disney Animated Canon namespace moving project is nearing completion. Currently we're trying to fix the Beauty and the Beast redirects to go directly toward Beauty And The Beast. Remember that as per wiki policy, any movie in the Disney Animated Canon is supposed to be in the Disney namespace. Also, Redirects Are Free - pending the creation of a page about the original The Fox and the Hound book, for example, The Fox and the Hound redirects to The Fox And The Hound.

  • Works Needing Tropes now exist. This is the page where recently created pages that have very little tropes on them go to allow wiki magic to do its thing and work wonders on the page.

  • A newly installed feature has just made its debut here on the wiki: Tips! Tips appear every time you make an edit on a wiki page and are there to help you be a better Troper! Hopefully these will go a long way to making the wiki more manageable without resorting to harsh methods of damage control. These range from:

    • The obvious: 1. The idea is to make articles in Main look like they were written by the same person. A person with a good sense of humor, who doesn't talk about himself with 'I' or 'this troper', or get in arguments with himself, and who just corrects errors he might have made earlier without drawing attention to them.

    • To the witty: ''12. An example that is almost completely spoilered out doesn't work very well as an example.

  • The full list of tips can be found on the (WIP) Tips Worksheet.

Spotlight Stealing Trope:
Remember back in Issue Three when we promoted a certain trope in our Needs More Love section? Well, it’s back.

"Pickup Hierarchy"
A common activity in the Platform Game are collectibles, also known as pick-ups. But not all collectibles have equal status, which is where the Pickup Hierarchy comes in. The Pickup Hierarchy is the scheme of which collectibles are most important, most wide-spread, or most valuable to get.

At the top of the pyramid are the Primary Tier Collectibles, which are absolutely necessary to advance in the game. Next on the scale are the Secondary Tier Collectibles, which are less important, more abundant, and often more challenging to collect. Third on the hierarchy are the Tertiary Tier Collectibles, which can safely be compared to junk. But junk in large quantities can yield very large rewards. Finally, the Extra Tier Collectibles form the hardest-to-get and most exclusive of all pick-ups, and number in the single digits to find on any given stage.

Also note that while the this trope is found most often in Platform Games, one may also find the Pickup Hierarchy in shooters, action, and racing games.

Needs More Love:
Glad You Thought of It needs more love! This trope is when a character is trying to guide another character toward an idea or plan while making it seem like that character thought of it themselves. And that sentence is the entire description! Seriously, there are fortune cookies with more text than that. We can do much better with the examples too, only Live Action has more than three examples in it. Hop to it, Tropers! More love for the loveless!

Edits From the Editor:
More words from our chief executive:

"We're closing in on it. The "wanting to pretend" thing is coming in strong. The "something to say" thing is lagging."

"We'll get there."
