Mythology Gag / Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: World of Light

Go To

Being a fanfic based on a franchise chock-filled with some of the biggest series in gaming history, this was bound to occur. The author himself is quite fond of allusions to obscure knowledge from the games Smash borrows from, so much so that they needed to be compiled into a separate trope page.

  • The author makes frequent references to the competitive side of Super Smash Bros., due to him being involved in the competitive scene:
    • The Ice Climbers perform their infinite chaingrab from Brawl on Fox in chapter 20 of World of Light, right down to the specific sequence of throws used to pull off the most well-known version of the infinite, that being a back throw from the lead climber to a desynced down throw from the partner climber before repeating the sequence ad infinitum.
    • In chapter 27 of Everyone is HERE!, Master Hand alludes to Cloud's severe unpopularity in Smash 4 doubles because of his utter dominance of the format.
  • Star Hill and Star Shrine are mentioned in chapter 21. The Shroobs themselves appear in chapter 14 in a Nightmare Sequence and in the flesh in chapter 24.
  • The password needed to enter Smithy's room in chapter 38 is 1996. Super Mario RPG was released on that year. Aditionally, King K. Rool—in his Baron K. Roolenstein guise—is the one who types the password. Donkey Kong Country 3, where K. Rool used the K. Roolenstein persona, was also released in 1996.
  • Mario, Luigi, Wario, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Peach, and Bowser are collectively referred to as the seven Star Children.
  • The way Isaac subdues Wario is a reference to the only way Wario can die in Wario Land 3. The latter also mentions owning a planet, which happens in the best ending of Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3.
  • Ike mentions the outcome of his final showdown with the Black Knight in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, namely the fact that not even the collapse of Nados Castle was enough to keep the armored menace down for good.
  • The wormhole fulton device from Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is used by Snake to escape the initial attack at the Craggy Outlook.
  • The Spirit Snake fights in Chapter 35 is Liquid Snake—possessing a Puppet Fighter of Corrin. Of course Liquid Snake would possess such a Puppet Fighter—both have the same voice actor.
  • The Spirit Donkey Kong battles in chapter 9 strongly resembles Gau, right down to the Wolf Puppet Fighter using some of Gau's Rages.
  • Cloud's seasickness rears its head once more.
  • Artorias uses cut dialogue from his home game's boss battle.
