Mythology Gag / Kamen Rider Zero-One

Go To

  • Zero-One is a strong callback to the very first Kamen Rider, Ichigo ("#1"), with his explicit grasshopper theme, name, and the round core of his belt. Zero-One's simplistic design also shares similarities to the design of Kamen Rider Kuuga, the first Kamen Rider of the Heisei Era.
  • Kamen Rider Ichi-Gata from The First Generation takes what Zero-One already has and goes even further; with a name closer to Ichigo's, Ichigo's original blue color scheme, and his CycloneRiser belt named and colored after Ichigo's motorcycle. His overall design is made to Homage Takeshi Hongo in just about every way.
    • His name, "Ichi-Gata" (literally Type-1), contrasts with Hongo's "#1" (ichi-gou).
    • His suit has teal armor on a black bodysuit and his helmet has pink eyes, imitating the color scheme of Rider #1's original appearance (officially dubbed "Old #1") as well as "Hopper #1" from the reboot film Kamen Rider The First. As an added touch, Ichi-Gata has an extended collar with red accents, referencing Rider #1's iconic red scarf, and the energy effects surrounding some of his attacks give him the appearance of a full red scarf of his own.
    • His transformation belt is the CycloneRiser, a silver and red repaint of the MetsubouJinrai Force Riser; this serves as a combined reference to Rider #1's own belt (named Typhoon, painted silver and red) and his motorcycle (named Cyclone). His pre-transformation pose is reminiscent to Hongo's iconic arm cross.
    • In a small reference to Kamen Rider Kuuga, you can hear the Henshin sound for Kuuga near the end of Ichi-Gata's.
    • The only thing that doesn't reference Kamen Rider is his finishers, Rocking The End and Rocking Spark. Instead these are homage to Kikaider's finishers.
  • Episode 6 has posters for Show Within a Show anime that reference previous Rider series. "Haran Banjou" features a dragon-boy boxer (whose Catchphrase seems to be "I won't lose!") accompanied by a rabbit, referencing Kamen Rider Build's Ryuga Banjou and Sento Kiryu respectively. "Magical Girl Koyomi in Magicland", whose Catchphrase is "It's showtime!", is a little more obvious.
  • The matchmaker HumaGear Match Enmusubi says that his job is finding peoples' "Best Matches", which were Arc Words in Kamen Rider Build.
  • The names and logos of the companies other than Hiden Intelligence and ZAIA Enterprise shown to be responsible for different areas of Daybreak Town in episode 4 are shout-outs to previous Kamen Rider series. For example, the second from left calls back to Kamen Rider Gaim, the top right has an eye design very similar to Ghost's, and Jee.Net has a design that evokes Kiva.
  • The Storming Penguin Raider does the same pre-fighting stance as Kamen Rider 2.
  • Just like Zero-One, Zero-Two has a similar name and theme to the deuteragonist of the very first series of the franchise, as the original was named "Nigou" ("#2") and also patterned after a grasshopper, with a suit featuring red gloves and heavier silver accents. In fact, one of the promotional images shows him performing Nigou's transformation pose, albeit mirrored. It culminates in the REAL×TIME movie, where Is inherits the Zero-Two belt to fight alongside Aruto, effectively becoming the new Double Riders (complete with a "#1 of Skill, #2 of Power" dynamic).
  • As a final form, Zero-Two harkens back to Ultimate Kuuga and Shining Agito, the first Final Forms, in many ways. Though the Zero-Two Driver is treated as an entirely new belt, visually and functionally, it's just the Zero-One Driver with a new faceplate like the Rising Arcle and the Dragon's Nail-equipped Altering, though a special Progrise Key is still used. Similarly, like Ultimate and Shining themselves, as mentioned above, Zero-Two's design is still primarily visually similar to its base form, slightly more armored without sacrificing the original sleek look, rather than a complex and often very busy design like other Final Forms.
  • REAL×TIME introduces Kamen Rider Abaddon, which is actually a bunch of identical Riders with color-coded shoulder pieces, basically a Zero-One take on the Shocker Riders.
  • The last line of Eden's transformation announcement, "Eden the Kamen Rider!" before the speech-to-text jingle harkens back to the transformation announcements of Kamen Riders Brain and Heart.
  • Behru accessing a new form of Eden by activating a hidden function on a derivative of the protagonist's driver brings to mind Evol Blackhole, even saying a similar line when activated ("Over the Eden.")
  • The design of the MetsubouJinrai Driver and the nature of Kamen Rider MetsubouJinrai serve as a clever Call-Back to Kamen Rider Double. Even the MetsubouJinrai Driver when opened resembles the Double Driver.
