Mythology Gag / Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger

Go To

Being the 40th anniversary of Super Sentai, there are several:

  • Zyuoh Eagle, Shark and Lion are a loose one towards to Taiyou Sentai Sun Vulcan and Choujuu Sentai Liveman, landing somewhere in the middle note .
    • Additionally, the operatic announcement of the Cube Animals resembles the chorus of Sun Vulcan's opening theme.
  • Zyuoh Eagle's ability to transform into Zyuoh Gorilla makes him similar to Goriwashigin from Chikyuu Sentai Fiveman, the monster's double-sided design used for Deathgalien player Omoteuria.

  • The series was billed as a Spiritual Successor to Hyakujuu Sentai Gaoranger. Despite the eagle and lion swapping Red and Yellow, there's still a White Tiger Ranger and a blue shark thrown into the mix. The helmet Transformation Sequence is similar as well.
    • The World is pretty much one to GaoSilver. They share two of the three animals of his motif and start out as villains.
  • The mecha's combining sequence (assuming an alternate form and stacking one on top of the other) may be a reference to Chouriki Sentai Ohranger and OhBlocker (AKA the Super Zeo Megazord), which uses a similar "stacking" combining sequence.
  • Each of the Deathgaliens are inspired by the designs of one or more of previous Sentai villains, which are usually monsters of the week for the monsters of the week while Jaged resembles Makirika and Heavenly Saint Raigel, Nalia resembles Insarn and Metal Alice, Azald has similarities to Noppera-bo, Quval has similarities to Study Brain and Study Monster and Ginis resembles DezumoGevirus and the first form of Tau Zant.
  • While not technically a Deathgalien, Bangray also happens to resemble Bacchus Gill and Deratsueigar. Incidentally, he plays a key role in the Gokaiger crossover episodes while the Deathgaliens did not.
  • Ep. 14 has someone mentioning an exhibition of five precious stones from ancient civilizations... were they on loan from Dai Sentai Goggle Five?
  • Both of the Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger crossover episodes have an updated version of Super Sentai Hero Getter, Gokaiger's end theme, which lists off all the Super Sentai teams through multiple verses that normally takes a few episodes to go through, though this version just has two.
  • The first Gokai Change seen in the 2000th episode of Super Sentai is naturally GokaiRed becoming AkaRanger.
  • The Gokaigers do two more all red changes.
    • Notably Luka uses the regular ShinkenRed key as opposed to the Hime ShinkenRed key with the resulting form also resembling Kaoru's ShinkenRed form.
  • The Wild Tousai Dodeca King's final attack (first seen when Bangray is destroyed for good in Ep. 35) has all Zyuoh Cubes rush him at once, with their respective numbers appearing - and then a lot of unseen Zyuoh Cubes start attacking him, raising the counter rapidly all the way to 100, clearly referring to the 100 Beasts from Hyakujuu Sentai Gaoranger.
  • Episode 36's Monster of the Week is samba themed, just like a certain dinosaur Sentai.
  • The Zyuoh King Octopus is functionally very similar to Fuuraimaru.
  • In Episode 44, Mario makes his own Zyuohger costume, which is pink, exposes most of his face, and doesn't give him superpowers. This refers to Emiri's AbarePink costume from Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger.
  • In the crossover with Ninninger, Red Falcon leads the gathering of every previous Red Ranger, having done so before in Gaoranger vs Super Sentai; Gao Red is now standing right next to him.
  • Azald Legacy cannot be truly defeated unless his core is destroyed immediately after his main body is destroyed not unlike Ultimate Org Senki.
