2AM in 2013. (L-R) Seulong, Jinwoon, Jo Kwon, Changmin

Split off from the eleven-member group “One Day”, 2AM (Korean: 투에이엠) is a four-member South Korean ballad group under JYP Entertainment. They debuted on July 11, 2008 with the song “This Song” as JYPE's first boy band and first ballad group.

The group has been on hiatus as of 2015 due to the members (except Jo Kwon) not deciding to renew their contracts with JYPE. The group has been thought to have disbanded in 2017 after Jo Kwon decided not to renew his contract with JYPE, but according to Kwon, they are just waiting for a comeback date and plan to continue the group despite being in different companies.

2AM provides examples of the following tropes:

  • Affectionate Nickname: Some from the fans and some among themselves.
    • Changmin is called Mongmin.
    • Seulong is called Ongseul and Ongong.
  • Affectionate Parody: They've parodied some popular dramas such as Boys Over Flowers, K-Pop Star 2, and Dad, Where Are We Going?.
  • Big Little Brother: Jinwoon is the youngest member, but he is as tall as Seulong, who is second oldest.
  • The Cameo:
    • Kwon has a cameo in 'Drinking Solo' and The Producers.
    • Changmin appeared in 'Dream Knight' as the repairman in '2AM Service Center'.
    • Seulong has a cameo in the movie 'Late Spring' and appeared as a flash mob dancer in Dream High.
    • Jinwoon appeared in 'Family'.
  • Cool Big Sis: Sohee of Wonder Girls calls Seulong "Seulong-unnie". The other members of Wonder Girls agree that Seulong is like an older sister.
  • Crossdresser: All four of them crossdress for their parodies of girl group songs.
  • Family Theme Naming: With brother group 2PM. They were originally one group called "One Day".
    • Most artists from JYP Entertainment have a number-related name: 2AM, 2PM, 15&, Baek Ayeon (baek = 100 in Korean), GOT7, TWICE, and DAY6.
  • Fanservice: Despite being a ballad group, their bodies are muscular and well-toned.
  • Former Child Star: Seulong appeared in many commercials when he was young.
  • High-Heel Power: Jo Kwon sometimes wears high heels, as shown in his Animal performance and a few interviews.
  • Korean Drama: Jinwoon plays the main character in Dream High 2.
  • The Leader: Jo Kwon for 2AM and presumably Oneday.
  • Master of the Mixed Message: Seulong is known to be a gentleman and very friendly towards girls.
  • Meaningful Name: 2AM is the time where people tend to get sentimental, open up their hearts, and be honest about their feelings.
  • Official Couple: Jinwoon and Yenny (Wonder Girls) dated for approximately four years before breaking up in 2017.
  • Only One Name: Kwon has a one-syllable first name as compared to the usual two-syllable first name, so he is more known as "Jo Kwon".
  • Princely Young Man: Jinwoon is described as a "mom's friend's son" type.
  • Sibling Rivalry: With 2PM. Despite 2AM debuting two months earlier than 2PM, the latter group gained more popularity, leading to 2AM being in the other group's shadow. However, despite the bitterness, they treat each other like family and support each other a lot, even crying whenever the other group wins an award.
  • Solo Side Project:
    • Jo Kwon and Jinwoon are solo artists.
    • Changmin acts in musicals while Seulong acts in dramas and movies.
  • Team Mom: Jo Kwon.
  • Teen Idol: Jinwoon was 17 (18 in Korean age) when they debuted. He had to finish high school, as well.
