Tropes

  • Call-Back: "Family Tree" from Complete Collapse has one to "A Trophy Father's Trophy Son", from Let's Cheers to This.
("A Trophy Father's Trophy Son") Tell me please, tell me please, I need to know
Is this what you call a family?
Is this what you call a family?
Is this what you call a family?
Is this what you call a family?
("Family Tree") Now all I am is broken (now all I am is broken)
Is this what you call a family?
Is this what you call a family?
    Guess we'll never know
    We'll never know
  • Careful with That Axe: The first album is fairly screamo, but later albums are much less so. The single "If You Can't Hang" is fairly regular singing until the bridge, when Kellin screams the words "Imagine THAT!!!"
  • Cluster F-Bomb: The song "Kick Me" has noticably more swearing than most of their other songs.
"You don't know shit, you don't know shit, about me! You don't know shit, shit, shit, don't know a goddamn thing about me!"
  • Cover Version: The band has versions of "Iris" by The Goo Goo Dolls and "Fuck You" by Cee Lo Green.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: Kellin Quinn has some fairly feminine features, especially when his hair is longer.
  • Love Is a Drug: "Heroine" is about this, playing on the homophones of heroine and heroin.
  • Non-Appearing Title: A couple of songs, notably the title tracks "Gossip" and "Complete Collapse".
  • Ode to Youth: "Go Go Go" could be seen to qualify.
"And they say it's time to grow up and stop with these foolish games, but I say they're wrong"
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: "Kick Me".
"Keep looking down on me, I am more than you'll ever be. Cut me deep but I won’t bleed. Gonna kick, kick, kick me when I’m down. By all means, put me through hell and I’ll make you see I’ll be your worst enemy. Try to kick, kick, kick me when I’m down. Kick me when I’m down."
  • Title Track: All of the studio albums have a title track.
  • "When I'm Gone" Song: "Better Off Dead" focuses on a girl questioning whether she would be missed if she committed suicide.
  • A Wild Rapper Appears!: "Alone", featuring, of all people... Machine Gun Kelly.
