Dark Lotus was a Horrorcore supergroup consisting of members of Insane Clown Posse and Twiztid and Blaze Ya Dead Homie. Dark Lotus' lyrics revolved around the occult, the supernatural, murder and insanity. In other words, they're a Darker and Edgier variant on the Psychopathic artists' normal lyrical content, although these artists were pretty grim to begin with.

The group originally consisted solely of ICP and Twiztid; their first song, "Echo Side", debuted on ICP's The Amazing Jeckel Brothers; Blaze Ya Dead Homie was added to the line-up and it was announced that a sixth member was yet to be revealed. It was Marz (Zlatko Hukic), a former guitarist for Ministry and current solo rapper. Conflict between Marz and Violent J eventually led to Marz being booted out of the group, and being replaced by Anybody Killa. Reactions from Juggalos was less than favorable, as Dark Lotus fans preferred Marz' ultra-messed up raps and harsh delivery. Of course, opposition to ABK's presence in the group would not have been as strong if Violent J had not decided to pull the original version of Tales from the Lotus Pod from stores and replace it with a George Lucas Altered Version that contained new ABK vocals and a Take That! towards Marz.

After Anybody Killa left Psychopathic, it was decided to retain a permanent five-member line-up, and Dark Lotus released The Opaque Brotherhood.

Initially there was plans to maintain the group after Twiztid left to form their own label, Majik Ninja Entertainment, which Blaze signed with, but things soured between Twiztid and ICP after Majik Ninja signed Axe Murder Boyz, due to a dispute involving AMB's Young Wicked and Jumpsteady's daughter—Violent J's niece. So it was announced that Dark Lotus had disbanded.

Dark Lotus contains examples of..

  • Ax-Crazy: "Pass The Axe", in which the group take turns passing an axe around and going on various murdering sprees.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: Marz has a deep voice, and delivers arguably the most fucked up lyrics on Tales From The Lotus Pod.
  • Fake Shemp: After being frustrated with Marz for not leaving his former label to sign with Psychopathic, and then learning he'd recorded a diss track towards ICP, they recalled the original version of the album, redubbed it with newly recorded verses where Anybody Killa replaced Marz, and also took the time to diss Marz back himself by adding "ey yo, Marz, you ain't Lotus and you know this!" to the song "Bitch I'm Sexy".
  • For the Evulz: In "Headache" Marz has visions of, among other things, a young lamb being crucified "for the fuck of it".
  • Gallows Humor: Featured in "I Hurt Myself" in Shaggy's verse, where he gets kicked out of a bowling alley for biting a bowling ball and then proceeds to put his legs under moving cars.
  • Harsh Vocals: Marz has a very gravelly vocal style.
  • Hearing Voices: "Can You Keep A Secret?" has the group doing things commanded by voices in their heads, or in their words, "Like I'm 'posed to".
  • I Cannot Self-Terminate: "I Hurt Myself", where the group tries to kill themselves in all sorts of different ways, to no avail. Why? "Pain is sexual, and [they're] horny".
  • I Love the Dead: "And We Danced" features the group doing romantic dances with dead people, as well as having sex with them. "Doornail Dorothy" involves them loving and often having sex with a dead girl known as Dorothy.
  • No Title: The back cover of the album was blank, leaving all of the songs officially untitled. However, the digital release of the album revealed the official song titles.
  • Revolving Door Band: Switched between two sixth members: Marz and Anybody Killa; later consisted of "five lotus petals".
  • Sdrawkcab Name: On digital releases of the album, "Black Magic" is listed as "cigaM kcalB".
  • Subliminal Seduction: "Echo Side" features a backmasked message which when reversed is actually an anti-Satanic message: Fuck the devil, fuck that shit, we believe in life legit. If you hearin' what we say, why you throw your soul away?.
  • Take That!: At the end of the revised version of "Bitch I'm Sexy" Violent J says "Marz, you ain't Lotus and you know this, bitch!".
  • Updated Re Release: The Opaque Brotherhood has a "rare deluxe edition" issue the same day as the album released, with bonus tracks.
  • Wicked Witch: "Witch Trapped in This Song" tells of a witch trapped in the song who will curse you and hex you if she wants to. To avoid getting hexed by her, you have to not repeat or memorize what they say.
  • Your Soul Is Mine!: "Consume Your Soul" is about, well, eating people's souls.
