Tropes:
- Cunning Linguist: the band sings in English, Yiddish, Russian, and German.
- Protest Song: a number of their songs — such as "The Butcher's Share", "Freedom is a Verb", "March of the Jobless Corps", "Arbeter Froyen", and "Vampirn" — qualify.
- Revenge Ballad: "Six Million Germans/Nakam" (that's Hebrew for "revenge"), a song about a plan to get revenge for the Holocaust, starts out as this but becomes something of subversion.
- World Music: Being a Klezmer band, they're often classified as this.
- Yiddish as a Second Language: the vast majority of their songs have at least some Yiddish.
- Artist and the Band: The band is named for its frontman.
