"Rats. We're rats. We're the rats!"
Jerma is (in)famous for the many inside jokes he’s created during his streaming career, which have often taken on a life of their own outside his fandom. With what many would describe as his… off-kilter personality, he has become a Fountain of Memes throughout his time on the Internet.
Format to use:
- The meme. [[labelnote:Explanation]]The explanation behind the meme.[[/labelnote]] ExplanationLike this.
- "Jerma vs. STAR_, Jerma vs. STAR_, everybody wants to see this happen!" ExplanationJerma's excited song he sings before getting crushed and frustrated soon after.
- "You wanna get bakestaybed?" ExplanationJerma's silly pronunciation of "backstab" as he plays as a Spy in Team Fortress 2.
- "You know... don't... say... sw-swears." ExplanationOriginates from Jerma lecturing Boo for saying "Oh, shit!" Followed just seconds later by Jerma dropping a ton of F-shots.
- The Shpees. ExplanationAn affectionate term for a Spy in Team Fortress 2, particularly novice Spies. It's sometimes used to mean "killing spree" too, or "killing spree as a Spy".
- The Byeahs. ExplanationA fat, dirty, gluttonous biker character based on one of the civilian models in Grand Theft Auto IV.
- "BE A PART OF SOIL!" Explanation Taken from an odd line said in the game ''Kingdoms Rise''.
- "Pop Tarts!" *crashes through window*Explanation What was supposed to be a one-time gag evolved into a meme due to the multiple ridiculous attempts to get the joke to work in a game that wasn't cooperating. It found its way into other videos as well.
- "IT'S OVER!"Explanation Arc Words from a bizarre The Twilight Zone style video made by Ster, now used whenever something ends.
- Don't worry guys, he doesn't usually snort. Jerma's second infamous snort at the end of his choose-your-own adventure stream became an emote.
- "Rats, rats rats. We're the rats" or basically anything to do with Jerma's Rat Movie series.
- "That was before the plague hit."ExplanationJerma poking fun at the many stories set in a Zombie Apocalypse during the zombie rage of the early 2010s, particularly moments where a character reminisces about their peaceful life before said apocalypse. It gained new relevance when the plague hit.
- "Berries, berries, berries, berries, berries." ExplanationJerma and STAR_ start singing "Berries" over and over while searching for berries in H1Z1. Now remixed into a song.
- "COFFEEEEEE, CHEETOOOOOS, CHICKEEEEEEEN."Explanation From an unlisted STAR_ video in which Jerma gets excited about finding food in a box in Dying Light — he then spends the next part of the stream repeating the phrase, sometimes bouncing the phrase between himself and STAR_ as they progress through the game.
- Discussed by STAR_ and Jerma (separately) in this video where Jerma watches STAR_ react to the original video.
- "Be brave, motherfuckers!" Explanation In an early build of the game Raven's Cry there was a crewmate onboard the ship who would yell variations of "Be brave, motherfuckers!" or "Be brave, piles of shits!". He was subsequently removed from later builds of the game.
- "Denz is a talented swordsman." ExplanationFrom an abrupt cutscene in the game ''The Cursed Crusade'', accompanied by the eponymous Denz lifting a poor soul off the ground by sticking his longsword through his skull.
- "Loot get!" "THERE'S BLOOD IN THE BOX!" ExplanationJerma's "Dork Cube!" video in which he pokes fun at monthly subscription box services.
- Any character of any significance in a video will inevitably be met with comments of "____ for Jerma Rumble!"
- Because of what a unique fellow Jerma is, many of the fandom's memes revolve around his own appearance and personality. This means he gets a lot of teasing, but it's all in good fun.
- Jerma is *insert celebrity/character here*, usually one that he bears a significant resemblance to. Some of the more popular ones include:
- Jerma is The ScoutExplanationOne of the oldest and most enduring jokes among Jerma's fanbase is his remarkable resemblance◊ to the Scout from Team Fortress 2, thanks to their uncannily similar faces, having much the same voice and accent, their diminutive heights, equally loudmouthed personalities, and even having the same name.
- Jerma is Willem Dafoe. ExplanationWillem Dafoe legitimately looks like he could be Jerma's uncle. There's even a Twitch emote that combines the two's faces.
- Jerma is Patrick Bateman. ExplanationAgain, the two share a resemblance. As Jerma is frequently portrayed as a Memetic Psychopath, and Bateman himself is a hammy serial killer, the jokes wrote themselves. Now with a deepfake featuring Vinny from Vinesauce.
- Jerma is Spamton. ExplanationAs usual, the two share a resemblance; this one particularly picked up after Jerma's playthrough of Deltarune's second chapter thanks to both his and the game's sizable and meme-heavy fanbases, with Spamton being the subject of a similar lookalike-themed meme independent of Jerma's. This, combined with Jerma's stuttering, Cold Ham delivery of Spamton's dialogue on-stream led to a number of redraws, photoshops, and video edits surrounding the comparison. In addition, both are associated with the year 1997, with it being Spamton's favorite year in his case and the year of the "Oreo incident" in Jerma's case.
- Jerma is *insert negative trait here* - some noteworthy ones include:
- Jerma is mad part X. ExplanationSTAR_ had a whole series of videos showcasing moments where he got Jerma to rage in TF2. Each video was accompanied by a part number.
- Jerma is short/Jerma is 5'2" ExplanationOne of the most popular and longest-running memes, originating from a picture◊ taken at Tip of the Hats, and the discussion he had about it while streaming Fistful of Frags.
- Jerma is bald. ExplanationJerma has talked about worrying that his hairline already began receding when he was quite young, and some fans like to prey on this insecurity. In reality, he's still got a solid set of hair on his head, and his hairline isn't even that bad.
- Jerma has body dysmorphiaExplanationA jab at certain fans who genuinely believed that the jokes about Jerma being comically short were psychologically damaging to him, typically invoked sarcastically whenever there's an uptick of jokes regarding Jerma's appearance.
- Jerma is old/Jerma is a boomer.ExplanationA "boomer" is shortening of "baby boomer", referring to the generation of people born around the 50s and 60s. Although Jerma is clearly not that old, he was born in 1985, which puts him on the older side compared to some of the newer content creators on Twitch.
- Jerma's DumptruckExplanationA rare flattering one. During his last stream in Boston, just before the move to Las Vegas, Jerma was told by a chatter that there was a ghost in the room, causing him to flee in mock terror. A viewer took a screenshot of Jerma running away and edited it so he would have a massive ass.
- "This dude's FUCKED."
- Jerma beat Dark Souls III. Explanation During a stream of Planet Coaster, Jerma, in order to assert how good he was at videogames, said how he "beat Dark Souls III on stream", which he hadn't, at the time he said it. As of February 2017, however, he has actually beaten it on stream.
- "Is this the guy who ___________ ON STREAM!?"
- Jerma ate a whole sleeve of Oreos and threw up in his mother's bed. Explanation Jerma once told Ster a story where he was feeling ill, but for some reason ate a whole pack of Oreos. He ended up vomiting the contents onto his mother's bed, resulting in a story that lives on in infamy.
- Jerma died to Pinwheel.Explanation Jerma actually had very little trouble defeating Pinwheel without dying, a boss in Dark Souls that is infamously easy if you know what you're doing. The stream's chat began jokingly claiming the opposite happened, and even Jerma joined on it. It eventually came full circle as he died to Pinwheel for real in a randomizer stream.
- Fake news headlines describing the contents of a stream/video have become somewhat popular in the YouTube comments section, especially after the baseball stream made NPR news. Example"Local streamer goes insane, turns his house into a strip mall"
- Poking fun at Jerma's embarrassment towards his old "JermaCraft" series. Often involves quoting the opening spiel.
- "Some people might already know me from playing in servers." ExplanationTaken from the intro of Jerma's first video. First mentioned at the end of one of Jerma's Hotline Miami streams. Made fun of for being an odd way to introduce one's self.
- Jerma green screen edits.
- Jerma deepfakes. ExplanationThe amount of time Jerma has spent on camera, whether it be from facecam or green screen streams, has allowed deepfake creators to seamlessly plaster his face onto virtually any clip, most commonly ones featuring characters that Jerma resembles. Some of the best ones are done by Ian Hunter, which include characters from the Scout, to Norman Osborn, and even Kazuma Kiryu.
- "Incredible AI deepfake technology compiles every serial killer into one man." ExplanationA screenshot◊ from the Dollhouse Q&A stream, with Jerma looking incredibly stoic (as if getting a mugshot taken) and his shirt edited to say "RED SEX." Got passed around on Reddit, with many people believing it to be a real deepfake image.
- Before Jerma had all of his fancy Twitch sounds and effects, he had some placeholder sub sounds:
- "GAME SUX. GAME SUX. GAME SUX." Explanation Comes from chat making fun of Jerma complaining about Dark Souls III's Farron Keep.
- "None of this makes any sense. That can't be how it happened." ExplanationA mix between a game over screen from Mafia III and an old Ster video that had similar phrases. Used when Jerma fails horribly, which is often.
- The song "Acid Bass" from the The Movies streams.
- "HEY GAMERS"/RAZER DEATHADDER. Now turned into a fake commercial
- "Is it some kind of currency thing?" and Jerma's other odd connections to clowns.
- "Do you eat ass?"
- "You missed that one, try another!" ExplanationWhile playing a wild west themed Light Gun Game, Jerma reaches a section where you must shoot a bottle out of the air, which he misses repeatedly (not helped by the crosshair being almost indistinguishable from the background). Every time he misses, an old man pulls another bottle out of nowhere to shoot at while saying this line. The absurdity of this makes Jerma laugh so much that he misses even more, which in turn makes him laugh more in a vicious cycle. Then when he finally hits the bottle, the old man congratulates him... And tells him to try another one.
- "LIFE IS PAIN, I HATE-"ExplanationDuring his TV Superstars stream, Jerma is prompted to record a slogan for his self-made character; in response, Jerma screams, "LIFE IS PAIN! I HATE MYSELF!" into the mic, but he started just a bit too late, resulting in the recording cutting off the "myself" part of his slogan. Hilarity Ensues when Jerma's character makes his debut on an in-game contest show, occasionally shouting "LIFE IS PAIN! I HATE-" during his introduction and the challenges.
- BIG WOW! ExplanationJerma reacting to a surprise attack in Jermemeia.
- JEX (followed by PogChamps) ExplanationResulted from Jerma making a typo while entering his initials in "Officer Jex's Light Gun Quest", resulting in the creation of a character that's basically Jerma but incredibly good at video games and much cooler.
- The clip in "Rant-Man And The Wasp" of Jerma pretending to incinerate a bee.
- Seagulls. ExplanationWhile playing a marine veterinarian game every animal that required help was a seagull. A !save command was eventually added to Jerma's Twitch chat, that shows the total number of seagulls "saved" by chat.
- The Giant Enemy Spider! ExplanationTowards the end of the Silly Putty Car Circus video, Jerma beatboxes the Team Magma/Aqua Grunt battle theme from Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire during an "encounter" with a giant robot spider in the prototype of Wreckfest. It gained traction several years after its creation, after the beatboxing was used in a Hazbin Hotel meme (appropriately, given the scene involves a gay gangster drag queen who is also a spider).
- "Why is it on fucking Egypt?" ... "Tricked you! It's Egypt, and we're both Phlog Pyros."ExplanationMany videos have popped up in the Jerma fandom using this clip as a Bait-and-Switch; Part of a greater trend of old Jerma jokes suddenly gaining relevancy again
- RIP Kit FistoExplanationDuring one Community Night, Jerma showed off a fan video that inserted him into the duel between Chancellor Palpatine and Mace Windu in Revenge of the Sith, freeze-framing on Kit Fisto's death before spending the rest of the video paying mock-tribute to his memory. A combination of the gag's excessive length (lasting well over a minute and taking up roughly two thirds of the video) and the character's silly-sounding name resulted in his death being commonly invoked by fans anytime Star Wars comes up.
- When the imposter is sus! 😳ExplanationA Photoshop pairing the following caption with an edited photo◊ of Jerma that gives him oversized facial features and a Slasher Smile. While the caption is meant as an ironic reference to Among Us, specifically the fanbase's tendency to shoehorn it into unrelated topics, the simultaneously absurd and disturbing nature of the image made it a popular subject of parody among Jerma fans via further edits and redraws.
- Zerking off. ExplanationComes from Jerma playing Streamer Life Simulator, where Bland-Name Product websites are just the usual name with a "Z" in it somewhere. Led to jokes about going on ZornHub and "zerking off," most prominently a variant of the "beat Dark Souls III on stream" meme that jokingly accuses Jerma of having "zerked off on stream," parodying a notorious blooper by equally notorious gaming content creator DarkSydePhil. Jerma now also says 'zerked off' instead of 'jerked off' due to the word making him uncomfortable.
- Zonked out streamer. ExplanationA spinoff of the "zerking off" meme based around Jerma's use of CBD oil to treat his chronic pain. While "zonked out" is a real term that significantly predates Jerma's streaming career, fans gravitated towards it thanks to its spelling and silly-sounding nature. Jerma has also mentioned this meme, many times on stream
- AA EE OO ExplanationWhile watching the 2020 Game Awards, Jerma tried avoiding copyright claims on Persona 5 music by recording himself singing notes and using a soundboard to sing over it. This resulted in jokes about Jerma becoming a remixer à la SiIvaGunner, and became a popular subject for other music-related meme videos (e.g., a Friday Night Funkin' mockup video based entirely around Jerma's performance).
- The "Oh shit!" voice line from F.E.A.R.
- The Debt ExplanationOn multiple streams, Jerma has said that if he doesn't do something correctly he has to give out "1000 community subs" or something similar. This came to a head in one of his Noita streams where he actually calculated how much he'd have to pay for the community subs (about 2.5 billion USD). Since then, Jerma has continually made bets with Twitch chat to lower the debt, often significantly increasing it instead. It got to the point where fans created a website specifically to tally the debt.
- "GAS" ExplanationJerma did a Jigsaw impression during House Flipper, claiming that Jigsaw says the word "gas" a lot. It turns out he doesn't, but Jerma's "GAS" sound bite has found lots of use anyways.
- Peep the horror ExplanationWhile streaming Monster Rancher 2 DX, Jerma read a tumblr message about one dream a chat member had which involved Jerma becoming a worldwide celebrity by inventing a new type of stream where he would allow chat to occasionally "peep the Horror", which is, according to the chat member, a pulsating red and black mass of incomprehensible living, breathing flesh; every time he showed it, everyone who saw it thought it was the funniest thing ever but one chat member at random died. According to the dream, the stream ended when Jerma himself died and his stream was left on for 72 hours to honor his memory with the titular Horror on screen. The dream quickly caught on due to the sheer absurdity, and numerous edits trying to emulate the experience have been made.
- Jerma wants to push chat into a meat grinder Explanation While streaming Elden Ring, Jerma got annoyed at a chat member claiming that a boss he was struggling against didn't have any instant kill moves. Jerma responded with a somewhat tortured metaphor about how if he were to push someone into a meat grinder and all that remained was one eye and one finger bone, even if it wasn't an instant kill, it would be safe to assume they were dead. The rather...graphic nature of the metaphor, how little sense it made even ''in'' context, and Jerma's frantic and counterintuitive attempts at explaining himself were immediately pounced on by chat as further evidence for the "psycho streamer" running gag.
- The thing in the fridge is definitely not human meat. Explanation A similar bit from his Nintendo Labo stream, which surged in popularity after the Meat Grinder meme took off. Together they paint the image that Jerma is a serial-killing cannibal.
- "I'm killing you. I'm KILLING you." explanation Yet another "Jerma is a psychotic murderer" joke spawned from a clip in his Dinosaur Fossil Hunter stream where Jerma told an annoying chat member that he would hunt him down and murder him in a disturbingly single-minded and mechanical fashion.
- Ballfondler/"He's gonna shove an entire baseball up his ass." Explanation During the runup to the Baseball stream one chat member named Ballfondler would reply to newcomers telling them that in said stream he would Ass Shove an entire baseball. While this got him banned, Jerma himself thought that the two year buildup for a stream where he does something that would get him instantly banned due to Twitch TOS was Actually Pretty Funny. During the baseball stream itself, 85% of chat voted to have Ballfondler unbanned.
- The teacher noise ExplanationFrom a clip where Jerma explains how he used to make silly noises to get the attention of his class when he was a subsitute teacher.
- Jerma laughs at car accidents ExplanationJerma is a sucker for the dark comedy slapstick of vehicle collisions, especially in video games (though it helps that most collisions he witnesses are so crazy and/or spontaneous that he bursts into laughter just from the absurdity of it). Overlaps with the fandom's tendency to play up his "psycho" persona.
- Hitting the yoinky sploinky ExplanationA term reserved for Jerma's dorkiest dances, especially the little dance he did in the "character creator" before the dollhouse streams.
- Sparkle on! It's Wednesday! Don't forget to be yourself!ExplanationAn edited low resolution screencrap from Jerma's TV Superstars stream. Posted whenever it's a Wednesday.
- Sparkle OFF! It's Thursday! Forget who you are!
- The Jermacore genre of music. ExplanationPeople often make songs with Jerma clips, (Especially voice clips) which are referred to as Jermacore.^
- +/-2 ExplanationReferencing Jerma and Etalyx's playthrough of Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days, where as a Self-Imposed Challenge they had to complete the game within 4 hours. Two minutes were added to the timer for each joke the audience liked and subtracted for each joke the audience disliked. Since then, "+2" and "-2" have become shorthand among Twitch commentators for liking or disliking a streamer's comments respectively.
