You know what they say: all toasters toast toast!
"I hope she made lotsa spaghetti!" The entirety of Hotel Mario is host to a lot of memes, with many of the lines below being used prominently in videos, mainly YouTube Poops.
Please add entries in the following format:- The meme. ExplanationThe explanation behind the meme.
- Further mutations and successor memes, if any.
- The entire opening sequence is a meme in itself, starting with the silly music and Mario and Luigi's oddly animated walking. It's common Bait-and-Switch material on Twitter and Tumblr, and some people claim they hear the music in their head whenever they see two people walking together.
- Bowser's Evil Laugh is commonly used in YouTube Poop videos.
- "Nice of the Princess to invite us over for a picnic, Gay Luigi?"ExplanationIn the opening cutscene, Mario is actually saying "...eh, Luigi?", but the way he says it, combined with the poor audio quality of older cutscene uploads, sounds like he's calling Luigi gay.
- "Dear pesky plumbers, the Koopalings and I have taken over the Mushroom Kingdom. The Princess is now a permanent guest at one of my seven Koopa Hotels! I dare you to find her if you can!"explanationA note left by Bowser in the opening cutscene, read by Mario. YouTube Poops have fun with this sequence, whether it be swapping out other words for "pesky plumbers", or changing the contents of the letter.
- "We gotta find the princess!" ExplanationWhat Mario says after reading the letter.
- "And YOU gotta help us!"ExplanationLuigi's line following the above. The "YOU" part is typically used in places of other instances of the word "you" in YouTube Poops.
- "If you need instructions on how to get through the hotels, check out the enclosed instruction book!"ExplanationFrom the last part of the opening cutscene. The enclosed instruction book is yet another popular YTP running gag.
- "If you need instructions on how to get through the hotels, press Button 1. If you wanna move on to the game, press Button 2."ExplanationThe line from the prototype. Became a semi-popular form of Bait-and-Switch when it was first uncovered, as many were caught off guard by it. Helping is the previously unseen frames of Mario holding up his fingers, which are surprisingly fluid by the cutscene's usual standards.
- "You Know What They Say: All toasters toast toast!" ExplanationA very popular line said by Mario (following the line below), which is frequently used and mutated in YouTube Poop videos.
- "Haha! Here's the problem! Too many toasters!"ExplanationMario tracks down the source of the power issues at Roy's hotel to a room with a bunch of toasters plugged into a wall.
- "No, they do not! They toast bread, dumbass!"ExplanationTaken from Charriii5's Everything Wrong With video of the game, fans have taken this clip as a deconstruction of the scene and have made multiple animations and edits of the original clip, originating from a TikTok video depicting Charriii5 as Simon.
- "Ya bring a light?"ExplanationBefore entering Larry's Cave Hotel, Luigi asks this to Mario.
- "NO."ExplanationMario's response to Luigi, which is very popular to substitute other words with in YouTube Poops.
- "Hey, you! Get offa my cloud!"ExplanationMarc Graue improvised where Mario tells one of the Koopalings to stay out of the sky.
- "It's been one of those days..."ExplanationA line from Mario that's often used in YouTube Poops whenever something repeatedly goes wrong.
- "Over there!"ExplanationLuigi pointing to the direction of Princess Peach. Videos will change whatever Luigi is pointing at.
- "This is it, Luigi."ExplanationWhat Mario says near the end of the game. Usually repurposed for a more dramatic context for laughs.
- "Where there's smoke, they pinch back!"ExplanationOriginally a line spliced from two of Mario's lines ("Where there's smoke, there's fire!" and "When you pinch Wendy's pennies, they pinch back!"), it has since become the semi-official motto of YouTube Poop videos.
- LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT ExplanationIn the prototype, the audio in every "Hotel bonus" cutscene is replaced by a female voice repeating "Left, right" ad nauseum. It's often thought to be a stereo test audio that was used as a placeholder audio for cutscenes, but both left and right play out of both channels. The audio itself is often quoted when the topic of the Hotel Mario prototype comes up, due to its absurdity.
