Grand Theft Auto III
- "I'm bored, when ya gonna drill me?"ExplanationAn early mission has you picking up a hooker named Misty from the free clinic for her boss. At the start of a certain mission for the next employer you get, one Joey Leone, Misty's sitting on one of the cars in his garage, spouting this line.
- "You want the chainsaw gringo?" ExplanationThe dialogue related to enemy gangs gets repetitive fast. This line is most infamous as it is said by the Cartel during a sniper rampage that traps them in a large group in an area you cannot shoot at from your vantage point.
- "My mother's my sister!" ExplanationOne of the many weird quotes said by some of the pedestrians on the street. This one was particularly bizarre; so much so that when someone asked what it meant on a Rockstar Q&A, their response was that not even they know what it really means.
- "Mo' money, mo' problems!"
- "I don't know where I am and I'm hungry!"
- "Yep, I've been drinking again!"

Grand Theft Auto Vice City
- Tommy can't swim. ExplanationThe player will die nearly instantly if they enter a body of water. While this was also present in III, it was given a Hand Wave in-game that the water supply was the most polluted on Earth. In Vice City, this became a target of mockery due to the titular city being surrounded by beach and the manual giving the much weaker excuse that there was a shark infestation. This is especially pronounced with later games allowing the player to swim, including Vice City Stories, a prequel which used much of its parent game's assets.
- Ultra Cop. ExplanationIn a glitch that speedrunners have found to be a run-ending bane of their existence (it happens on III as well), the "ultra cop" refers to the infamous habit of the game determining that you're in hijack and arrest range of a police officer regardless of the distance from them. The result is a cop teleporting out of nowhere or zooming from off-screen through your own vehicle to tear you out of your seat and bust you before you even have time to react.
- "Looking for something special? I got what you need! Thanks for the money, sucker!"ExplanationA line from the mission "Love Juice" uttered by a dealer who has the ingredients for the eponymous Love Juice and attempts to rip Tommy off and run away. This line was used in light of the Definitive Edition being a buggy and unfinished mess that costs $60, which many fans feel is the equivalent of Rockstar Games and Take-Two ripping them off and running away with the money.
Grand Theft Auto San Andreas
- "The yay leaving San Fierro right?" "Right. But they're using bikes, CJ, and they go cross country!"ExplanationA mission available throughout the main character Carl Johnson's stay in the second city on two days of the in-game week is always introduced with a phone-call from his friend, Cesar Vialpando. Said part of the game takes many in-game weeks to get through.
- "CJ, you a busta."/"Same old CJ! Busta! Straight busta!" Explanation"Busta" being gang slang for "coward". Ryder tends to refer to CJ as a buster or "busta" if you will.
- "ALL WE HAD TO DO WAS FOLLOW THE DAMN TRAIN, CJ!"ExplanationExpect to hear this from Smoke a lot when attempting "Wrong Side of the Tracks".
- Why did you blow up Ryder's car?ExplanationDuring "Ryder", blowing up Ryder's car at the start of the mission fails it, but lets you skip a cutscene later on. Because this is not readily apparent, many people who saw this for the first time would ask this question, and the quote eventually became memetic amongst speedrunners.
- The San Andreas theme became a quite popular choice of song in Thug Life vines and some other ones of the similar kind.
- Big Smoke's order ExplanationBig Smoke's order from Cluckin' Bell in "Drive-Thru" is ridiculously large compared to what CJ and the others order, ordering more than twice as much food as the other people in the car combined. Because there doesn't exist an actual menu for Cluckin' Bell, some wonder what exactly it was that Big Smoke ordered. However, some mysteries DO get answered
eventually, even if years have passed since. - ПОТРАЧЕНО ExplanationA variation on "WASTED" from unofficial "Blind Idiot" Translation made in Russia, which literally means "SPENT" [as in spending money]. Became the massive meme of the Runet after being introduced in many YTP videos, and outside of Russian meme culture is usually associated with "slav slang", among with "cyka blyad" and "cheeki-breeki".
- YOU PICKED THE WRONG HOUSE, FOOL! Explanation When CJ enters Big Smoke's house in the beginning of the game, he mistakes him for an intruder and approaches him with a baseball bat, spouting this line. Became yet another meme attributing to Big Smoke's Fountain of Memes status.
- "Ohhhhhh!" ExplanationWhen Big Smoke realizes the home intruder is actually CJ. It is usually extended in YTPs to make the sound longer, or has its pitch adjusted to make a tune out of it.
- "Ryder, nigga!" ExplanationA quote said by Ryder by the end of the first mission in the game after the gang is introduced. Most YTPs make repeated use of this quote whenever Ryder does anything notable.
- MISSION PASSED! RESPECT+ ExplanationThe mission complete message, accompanied by very satisfying sting of the main theme has been edited into videos, often with the volume cranked way up.
- Ah shit! Here We Go Again! Explanation From the game's opening scene. Usually used in response to something someone has seen too many times or is tired of dealing with. Saw a huge resurgence in early-mid 2019
- Grove Street, home. At least it was before I fucked everything up. ExplanationSaid by CJ upon coming back to his childhood home. "X, home." is a popular snowclone expressing nostalgia over memorable video game locations, sometimes followed by "At least it was before [character] fucked everything up."
- Cursed CJ. Explanation After the release of the "Definitive Edition" of the GTA Trilogy, the remaster earned poor reception mainly due to being a bug-riddled mess with abysmal character models that easily fall into the Unintentional Uncanny Valley territory, poorly upscaled textures with a side of grammatical errors and a huge chunk of music removed due to licensing issues. One of the rather humorous glitches involves a close-up of CJ staring blankly in addition to a slight grimace upon looking back with the quad bike while the first-person camera is active. Though the meme died out after the glitch got patched out, it remains present in the original release.
- "I got caught up in the money, the power..."Explanation Big Smoke explaining why he betrayed the Grove Street as he lay dying has been a template making fun of companies or people that lost their way for pursuit of power, but has gained more traction with the release of the Definitive Edition, noting how the meme has come full-circle for Rockstar.
- "New clothes? Nigga, what the fuck is this bullshit?!"ExplanationDuring "Home Coming", after Sweet is released from prison, CJ tells him about expanding operations in San Fierro and Las Venturas, and wants to get Sweet some new clothes, and his brother says this line in response. This is used by people to express opinion towards something disappointing, like the aforementioned Definitive Edition remasters.
- Thanos was right. Half of y'all need to go.ExplanationA screencap of Ryder smoking a blunt with this quote being displayed◊, often posted to display disappointment or disgust at what someone said or a very unpleasant event. There also exists variations, such as how Nyx was right and everyone needs to go.

- YELLOW CAR!!! ExplanationNiko can hail cabs for a quick ride to various places. He can also do so while drunk. When doing so, he can shout out all manner of hilarious drunken things such as "MEESTER MAN!!" and of course, "YELLOW CAR!!!"
- Carmageddon. ExplanationSetting the wheel friction in the game's handling files can result in cars flying around, as seen here. Not to be confused with the video game, which like GTA also garnered controversy for allowing you to run over pedestrians.
- The Taxi Bug is accurate to New York.ExplanationGTA IV modders will be familiar with the "Taxi Bug", in which when the game's vehicles.img file is too large, the game's ability to spawn cars breaks and only taxis and police cars appear. Some jokingly consider this a Good Bad Bug considering the game is set in an Expy of New York City.

Grand Theft Auto V
- The Mount Chiliad shack. Explanation The shack◊, seen briefly in the Gameplay Trailer, has become something of an enigma for fans of the game who were curious as to what could be inside an isolated shack on top of a giant mountain. It turned out to be a cable car station.
- Why did I move here? I guess it was the weather. ExplanationThe lines spoken by Michael in the very beginning of the first trailer of the game.
- In Italy, it's anything along the lines of "Goodbye social life", mostly pushed by the Facebook page "Le Assurdità Dei Videogames" (Gaming Absurdities) to the point it was clear they were driving the hype bandwagon; by the time the game was released, the page's own community had grown sick of it. Some even responded by posting this image:
- The Map, what is this? A Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, Alfred Hitchcock◊, T-Rex head◊, George Washington, Homer Simpson...
- Most of the lines between Franklin and Lamar. For example:
- The Unstoppable train. Explanation The train that goes around the map cannot be stopped by any means available to players at this time- including blockades and explosives.
- Jokes about the cops being far more powerful and actually dangerous than the cops in GTA IV are sometimes made.
- There are plenty of gifs that parody the wasted screen. ExplanationSaid "WASTED" animation involves a camera sound effect, muted colours, slo-mo and the return of the "WASTED" popup in bright red.
- 'UN DOS TRES QUATRO ExplanationOne song from the soundtrack, "El Sonidito" by Hechizeros Band, became a meme in the GTA fandom for being very weird and catchy.
- Waiting for GTA. ExplanationThe PC version of Grand Theft Auto V was delayed three times, on a monthly basis. By the third delay, many were considering it enough of a Running Gag to anticipate further delays.
- "Stop firing rockets at my house!" ExplanationMichael will call, yelling at either Trevor or Franklin if one of them fires a few rockets into his mansion, telling them to stop doing that.
- Stunt Jump Failed ExplanationThere are many ramps available to jump off of. However, to register it as a success, you have to land flat on your wheels, at a certain distance (meaning you can actually fail if you go too far) and not hit anything in the air. Due to some jumps having Fake Difficulty due to these prerequisites, no matter how incredible you made it, you'll likely see this message a lot. Whenever you see a video or GIF of an incredible stunt in the game, expect at least one "Stunt Jump Failed" comment.
- It's all Michael's fault! ExplanationA recurring meme most commonly seen in the GTAForums that mock Trevor's attitude in always blaming Michael for things that happen, even if he's not even related to them.
- Devin Weston ChandlerExplanationComparisons between the game's Big Bad and the Sonichu creator appeared out of nowhere due to them sharing the word "Weston" in their names and both of them being extremely immature for their age.
- Rockstar bringing the game to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.ExplanationThe very first announcement from the PS5 reveal event on June 11, 2020, was that V was going to be ported to the console, with a port for Xbox Series X being confirmed on social media soon afterwards. Fans who had seen the Rockstar logo and hoped for Grand Theft Auto VI only to see that V was getting another port immediately started memeing the announcement, as did people who weren't fans of the series. Lots of people also ended drawing comparisons to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Resident Evil 4, both of which are also notable for being ported onto damn near everything, with many people jokingly saying that it was now Todd Howard's turn to announce ninth generation ports of Skyrim (which later did happen), or that a Nintendo Switch port was imminent due to Rockstar wanting to continue milking V.
- "You're a genius, you moron!"ExplanationTrevor says this to Wade when the latter manages to find Micheal. Frequently used in reference to school exams like getting the hardest question right despite failing at the easier ones.

- Lamar roasts Franklin.ExplanationIn a certain early mission, Lamar roasts Franklin simply for not letting him into his house, mentioning his "yee-yee ass haircut" and the possibility of Tanisha calling him if she's done having sex with the brain surgeon or lawyer she's currently dating. In late 2020, fans replaced Lamar with other characters such as SpongeBob SquarePants or Harry Potter.
- Yee-yee ass haircut.ExplanationA famous part of the roast: Lamar says that if Franklin got rid of his haircut, he would get bitches on his dick. Generally liked just because it's so absurd and funny. For extra hilarity, once the cutscene is over, barber shops become available to Franklin, making it seem like even the game itself is dissing his hairstyle.
- Niiigaaa~ExplanationThe last part of the roast, and most likely the most famous one. The delivery sells it.
- ...What?!ExplanationThe only thing Franklin can say after the roast. People like to say that the reaction is more and more justified the weirder the videos get.
- Franklin should start letting people into his house.ExplanationOnce again, people like to say that Franklin could avoid getting roasted all the time if he would just let people go inside his house.
- "GO FUCK YOURSELF!"ExplanationIn New York Comic Con 2013, a fan named Diego asked Trevor's actor Steven Ogg to curse at him by yelling the said line mentioned above during the Q&A in which the latter obliged. This resulted in memes including a parody of Half-Life 2's intro where the G-Man does the same thing directly to Gordon.
Grand Theft Auto Online
- "WATCH YO JET!" ExplanationFrom a video of a skydiving player in Online repeating the mentioned phrase with increasing alarm as a jet approaches, and eventually strikes him.
- God leftExplanationFrom a screenshot of an online session where a player going by the username of "God" logs off. It has been picked up as a reaction image to express disgust with something.
- The Faggio Mk. IIExplanationA mockery done to Rockstar for introducing futuristic elements such as the notorious Oppressor Mk. II which are deemed out of place in the series, resulting in jokes where they'll introduce a "Mk. II" variant of the Faggio that will surpass the former. The latter, however, which is already an inside joke within the community due to being a novelty, has recieved a Memetic Badass treatment where its users who manage to take out anyone who abuse the Oppressor Mk. II will assert their dominance over the latter (Griefers included).
Grand Theft Auto VI
- TRAILER 1. TUESDAY, DECEMBER 5. 9AM ET.ExplanationRockstar's announcement of the next GTA game's first trailer was a banner of palm tree silhouettes against a pink-and-orange sky with those words written on them. The tweet announcing the trailer quickly became the fastest tweet to reach over a million likes, and within hours of the announcement, games like Halo Infinite and Fall Guys announced their own trailers in very similar fashion, aesthetics included.
