He's not going to retire any time soon

Kikuru Madan is The Ace of Kodama Town. His job is to guard the town from monsters in the forest every day. After one of his friends got married, he wants to quit the job to enjoy his youth, but is worried about the town's safety without him. Under the request of receptionist Enome, he decides to take a newbie guard under training to prepare them to become his successor. The newbie is a beastman named Hitamuki, who is a martial artist, but is essentially useless in taking down monsters and only seems to attract them. Then he tries to train more guards only for them to have their own quirks that make them easy prey for the monsters. The road to retirement is a harsh path for the experienced guard.

Immoral Guild (不徳のギルド, Futoku no Guild) is a fantasy ecchi manga, written and illustrated by Taichi Kawazoe, which started serialization in Square Enix's shōnen manga magazine Monthly Shōnen Gangan in June 2017. An anime adaptation has aired between October 5 2022 to December 21 2022.

General Tropes:

  • The Ace: Each town has their own ace, who is the strongest guardsman.
  • Affectionate Parody: Of Eastern RPG and Fantasy anime of the Ecchi kind. The series is fully aware of how ridiculous the means those genres use to create Fanservice situations are, so its characters spend half of their time pointing out how weird what's happening to the girls is, and the other half investigating what is causing the monsters to behave is such odd ways. Far from being the typical Fantasy setting, the work has Schizo Tech that never gets explained, and exists mostly for the sake of creating absurd scenarios lika a mage skipping work to play video-games. The main girls are also parody of some classical RPG classes, except they are all incompetent at their job, which is played for comedy.
  • Alcohol-Induced Bisexuality: Hanabata. When she is sober she only shows interest in Kikuru, but in one of her "drunk on mana" incidents, she started molesting Hitamuki too.
  • Bears Are Bad News: One of monsters around Mebuki are Todoguma's, who resemble bears with stripes and are usually avoided by guards due to their great physical strength.
  • Benevolent Monsters: Some monsters are completely harmless and even helpful to humans, like the squirrels Laia and Leia, who are always working at the guild.
  • Boob-Based Gag: Hanabata and Enome have the biggest pairs of breasts in the series, and they're constantly used for lewd gags, usually involving a Marshmallow Hell for Kikuru.
  • But Thou Must!: When Toru asks Kikuru to investing Kodama Mountain, the latter felt that he could only choose between "Yes" and "Yes".
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: Subverted. While Kikuru certainly appreciates the huge assets of Hitamuki, Hanabata, and Enome, he can also be attracted to the less developed bodies of the other girls.
  • Cerebus Syndrome: As the manga goes on, longer arcs with big stakes and real danger for the main cast show up more frequently, and with greater focus in world building. They never completely overtake the plot because there is still many chapters full of the usual levity in-between, but overall, later volumes have a more serious tone than the initial ones.
  • Chekhov's Gag: Much of the comedic elements concerning Hitamuki foreshadows discoveries later made about her.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Several tidbits of information, gags or small events from earlier chapters end up playing an important or at least necessary role in the story as it goes on.
  • Childhood Friends: Hanabata and Tokishikko have been friends the longest out of the main cast.
  • Cutesy Dwarf: Imps in the setting are a halfling-sized race of people who mostly look like human children with little horns, regardless of their actual age. A minor exception is the hunter, San, who looks like other imps except for her large breasts.
  • Deconstruction: A lighthearted version for The Ace. Kikuru is an extremely skilled and competent Ranger, but he really wants to retire and do something else with his life. But as The Ace, finding a worthy successor is no easy task, and most of the time he ends up having to save the rest of his party members regardless of their determination. Which then further solidifies his spot as the hero of the story.
  • Deliberate Values Dissonance: A 15-years old girl being put into sexual situations together with adult women is something that wouldn't pass in a lot of Western countries. However, it's pointed out In-Universe that Kikuru sees this as a problem.
  • De-power: Guards who either retire or want to change their jobs have their skills taken away through a potion.
  • Fan Disservice: Many of the girls' sexual encounters with the beasts aren't exactly titillating...
  • Harsh Word Impact:
    • Kikuru does this to himself, when commenting that Hitamuki shouldn't be wasting her youth hunting monsters. He quickly realizes the same thing applies to him and falls to his knees in pain.
    • Later, Kikuru is shown to be hit by Enome's words like they were a Breath Weapon, when she vehemently denies there is any chance of her getting together with Kikuru.
  • Healing Magic Is the Hardest: Maidena mentions healing magic is not easy and she can't use it whenever she wants.
  • Humans Are the Real Monsters: While the Named monster King Mashura killed several guards, he is shown to be a Noble Demon, who genuinely respects Kikuru for his skills. In contrast the guards on Kodama Mountain were the ones that caused King Mashura to act out due to them unjustly killing Double Monkeys whom the Named ordered to stay in their territory and not bother humans. On top of that, Saran and his party come across as even more despicable due to them using Hanabata as a decoy to get away from King Mashura, trying to kill another Named that has no hostile intentions and molesting Noma and Maidena with the latter nearly being raped.
  • Hypocrisy Nod: After making fun of Kikuru for wanting a girlfriend, during the girls first outing together, Tokishikko realizes they can't make fun of him anymore when they realize none of them have any experience either.
  • I Ate WHAT?!: After the party celebrated their first 'victory', they all eat a meal Hitamuki made from the Todoguma they killed with all of them finding it delicious. When the other three try to cook something themselves with the meat from the monster and end up with awful dishes, they ask what part of the monster Maidena used to cook. It turns out to be its dick.
  • Implausible Deniability: Kikuru's former party members accuse him of being a Glory Seeker, who only made himself the ace through killing weak monsters, with said proof being the young monsters he killed earlier, and is thus a weakling who has no right to order them around. Even though his actions of killing the young ones are in the guidelines since it approached him first and they completely ignore the large amount of adult monsters he killed, whose corpses surround the cub's. An older guardsman, Toru Nohkins, lampshades this upon seeing the amount of monsters Kikuru killed.
"people see what they want to see..."
  • Intimate Marks: Maidena has her sacred magical crest on her lower back, right above her butt. Noma also has it due to his status as a Red Mage.
  • Killer Rabbit: A type of monster literally looks like a rabbit, and while not that dangerous to skilled adventurers, they sure beat the crap out of Hitamu before molesting her.
  • Knight of Cerebus: Named monsters take this role due to the sheer danger they form against guards.
  • Lethal Chef: Tokishikko, Hanabata and Maidena are terrible cooks, and whenever they cook it ends up looking like something out of a horror movie.
  • Limited Move Arsenal: Guards can only use skills belonging to their job class with having multiple jobs being illegal. Kikuru is somewhat of an exception since he technically doesn't have any skills, but rather replicates them with his own ability and strength due to lacking mana.
  • Magic Is a Monster Magnet: Monsters are drawn to people with magic, once they get their clutches on one, they will try to lick it from them, and will ignore everything else around them.
  • Marshmallow Hell: Kikuru has been nearly smothered by Hanabata while she's in Frenzy mode more than once. He nearly suffocates when he gets trapped between Hanabata's and Enome's breasts.
  • Monster Misogyny: Played With. It's been noted that monsters are still trying to kill and eat male guards but only sexually harass females. This wasn't always the case, so a long-term plotline of the manga is the cast trying to figure out what happened. The only exception is Noma Rune, who gets molested almost as much as the girls.
  • Non-Malicious Monster: Most of the monsters are not truly malicious, just acting like wild animals, but being attracted to the mana of the girls is what makes them molest them.
  • The Nudifier: Somehow, whenever Maidena, Tokishikko and Hanabata eat something they cooked themselves, their clothes are inexplicably destroyed. Naturally, Kikuru lampshades how nonsensical that is.
  • Older Than They Look:
    • Fairyfolk retain their young appearance despite how old they truly are. This includes someone with fairyfolk blood like Enome, who is 31 years old and has a twelve year old daughter, but she looks barely older than the 18 year old Hitamu.
    • This also applies to Imps, who despite looking like children are much older than they appear.
  • Once per Episode: Whenever they go out into the forest, Hitamuki always gets sexually harassed by some sort of monster.
  • Powerful, but Incompetent: The main gag of the series is that all the girls in the main party are theoretically very strong in their respective classes (minus Hitamuki, who never gets to show if she is a good martial artist), but have some personality flaw that makes them incompetent:
    • Tokishikko is a Black Mage who can cast several powerful spells, but she is also very lazy and rarely feels motivated to do her job. She also uses every excuse available to avoid training, meaning she has terrible stamina, to the point that merely walking for a while leaves her drained.
    • Maidena is seen as a genius White Mage, and she is indeed very good with healing spells, but she is easily scared by monsters and left unable to do anything out of fear.
    • Hanabata is a Warrior and by far the physically strongest member of the party. However, her trump card robs her of her reasoning in exchange for a power boost, leaving her uncontrollable and childish, and thus a danger to her teammates too.
  • Punch-Clock Hero: Some guards only took the job for the pay instead of wanting to save people from monsters.
  • Rule of Sexy: It's rather telling that even the characters of the series sometimes fail to understand the logic behind some of the lewd moments they live through.
  • Schizo Tech: Playing on Rule of Funny, while mostly a typical fantasy setting, there are computers, phones, televisions, vacuum cleaners and video games without anyone bringing any particular attention to it. It's like society decided to return to fantastical adventures while also keeping the technology level up.
  • Shipper on Deck:
    • Enome is the one who put Hitamu under Kikuru's care, and incentivates him to hook up with one of the girls on his newly founded party, though it's unclear if she really thinks they would be a good couple or if it's just a ploy to get Kikuru to stay with the guild.
    • Her daughter Esyne, on the other hand, is very open about how she wants Kikuru to be her new father.
    • Hanabata's father acknowledges Kikuru's skills and wants him to marry his daughter.
  • Shout-Out: The scene where bad food somehow becomes The Nudifier for the girls is a reference to Food Wars!.
  • Social Climber: Kanzebo's death created an opening for the title of ace of Kodama town. This caused several guards of Kodama to migrate to Mebuki under the belief that there is less competition there due to their ace being lesser known. While the guards who stayed in Kodama began hunting more monsters to increase their score, which caused the Named King Mashura to kill guards for their unjustifiable murder of his kind, whom he ordered to stay in their territory and not bother humans. Naturally the news of a Named appearing in Kodama Mountain only caused more overeager guards to try and kill King Mashura to become the next ace.
  • Squishy Wizard: Maidena is a White Mage while Tokishikko is a Black Mage, as such they have very little stamina or physical strength.
  • Training from Hell: Kikuru often references the harsh training he had to do since childhood to become a hunter. Unfortunately for the girls, only having experience with this type of training means he doesn't know how to tone it down for the sake of others less capable than him.
  • World of Technicolor Hair: While there are some mundane or normal colors like Tokishikko's black hair, Kikuru has green hair with a white stripe, Hitamuki has blue hair, Hanabata has pink hair and Maidena has grey hair.
