Set in a world where a pristine upper class city is surrounded by the filthy slums, Rudo is a young boy, shunned by most for being the son of murderers, but raised by a loving foster father named Legto and with a crush named Chiwa. Rudo always had an appreciation for trash, which the upper-class so much produce, and has gained an even worse reputation by breaking into the town and salvaging what he can before bringing back to the slums to fix.
One day, he finds his father murdered and he is set to be executed by the method favored by the town police: throwing people into the Abyss, a bottomless cliff at the edge of the slums. The townspeople and the people of the slums clamor for his execution as even Chiwa turns against him, and before being flung into the void, he swears vengeance to them and whoever killed Legto.
Rudo falls and after weird sights, he falls onto the ground, a seemingly endless trash dump populated by monsters. Narrowly saved by a "Janitor" with supernatural powers, he is recruited to join them, which he takes in hope of going back to above the abyss and taking his revenge.
Tropes
- Almighty Janitor: Played with. Semiu seems to be primarily a receptionist for the Cleaners and her "Eyes" can't be used to kill Aberrant Beasts, however, she is a beast in hand to hand combat. Her "Eyes" give her supernatural reflexes that allow her to dodge bullets and even throw a bazooka rocket back to where it came from. She's only the receptionist rather than a field agent because she likes the idea of being an office lady and is in fact the primary guard of the headquarters against attacks by groups like the Vandals and the Marauders.
- Anti-Hero: As a result of being physically abused and eventually abandoned by his parents, Rudo has become emotionally closed off and introverted person, holding an intense pain and anger that would never stop burning him inside. Due to being the son of murderers, he's been isolated at a very early age, with the only people who do not see him as a bad person being Regto and Chiwa. After being sent into exile, Rudo loses all hope in people and develops a strong thirst for revenge, making an oath that he will return to Heaven, kill every single one of the Celestials, and make them regret calling him filthy before throwing him away into the Abyss.
- Bullet Time: Semiu is able to move like this in case bullets are shot at her.
- Companion Cube: In this setting, if an object is taken care of for a long time and loved a lot, it will eventually be able to turn into a jinki, this of course, involves the giver being capable of caring greatly for an inanimate object. Zanka is the biggest example of this, as he has memorized every detail of his "Love Stick".
- Crapsack World: In the above, there is a strong two layer system with a fascist-like government running on shaming and mistreating a lower class and teaching them to shame and mistreat each other. In the surface, the world had gone to hell due to the trash from above, negative emotions in the trash have turned it into nigh-unkillable beasts that have to be dealt with by people with special powers.
- Heroic Second Wind: Brutally Subverted during Zanka's fight with Jabber. When it seemed that Zanka managed to stand up again after being poisoned by Jabber and ready for Round 2, the next page shows Zanka on the ground muttering his speech while Jabber watches in amusement. Turns out Jabber also had Hallucinogens in his arsenal.
- Named Weapons: Because part of the magic system involves the care and love someone puts in an object, it's common among Givers to name their weapons.
- Zanka's weapon is "Love Stick".
- Riyou's weapon is "The Ripper".
- Engine's weapon is "Umbreaker".
- Semiu's weapon is "Eyes".
- Delmon's weapon is "Great Dumbbell".
- Tamzy's weapon is "Tokushin".
- Kick Chick: Riyou's weapon are massive scissors, which she uses with her feet.
- Knows the Ropes: "Tokushin", Tamzy's jinki, is a yarn winder that casts rope all around it, being able to restrain people, and even wind all the ropes together to trap them into a huge yarn.
- Making a Splash: Delmon's "Great Dumbbell" is a water hose shaped like a pistol that can be used in a similar way to an actual gun or even a cannon.
- Parasol of Pain: Engine's jinki is an umbrella with a spear tip and blades on it.
- Personality Powers: Rudo's jinki are his gloves, which allow him to turn trash he touches into a weapon. Rudo himself would spend all his time in "Heaven" finding things that were unfairly thrown away and fixing them up so they can be re-used.
- Scavenged Punk: The whole series takes place in what is effectively a giant dumpster.
- Super Fly Reflexes: Semiu is introduced killing two flies with a fork. As in skewering two flies using the fork's tines.
- Swiss-Army Weapon: Rudo's jinki allows him to turn anything he touches into a jinki to fight, which makes for a very versatile power. He can, for example, use an amulet and turn it into a jinki that allows him to dodge all attacks, and use a keyboard as a weapon that fires off buttons and prints characters into enemies.
- Toilet Humor: During Rudo's fight with Zanka, he takes a random object to become a jinki. It turns out that his object is a dirty plunger and he is waving poo in Zanka's direction without meaning to.
- Tragic Keepsake: The case of quite a few jinkis:
- Rudo's gloves are a gift from his deceased father figure.
- Delmon's jinki is the water hose he used to water the flowers he and his deceased lover kept.
- Amo's jinki are both a happy and terrible memento of her time being groomed by her "first love".
- The Unsmile: Rudo's attempt at a professional smile is so terrible that it makes Zanka think he is being mocked.
- Wolverine Claws: Jabber's jinki are a set of rings that extend into claws with toxins in it.
