Tropes relating to menstruation, or the period of vaginal bleeding during a woman's reproductive cycle. A sub-type of Puberty Tropes, where it is most common for menstruation to occur in females.
Tropes:
- All Periods Are PMS: All periods are accompanied by PMS irritability.
- Embarrassing Damp Sheets: Blood leaked onto the bed sheets.
- Fake Period Excuse: Someone fakes being on her period to get out of a situation surreptitiously.
- First Period Panic: A girl's first period causes her panic.
- Menstrual Menace: Menstruation is tied to superpowers.
- No Periods, Period: Menstruation is not mentioned in fiction, even when it is presumably occurring.
- Period Shaming: Making a character feel ashamed or disgusted for having periods.
- Pregnancy Scare: A character thinks she may be pregnant, often because of a late or missed period.
- The Talk: Educating children about menstruation and sex.
- Tampon Run: A girl has started her period and needs tampons, so she asks a guy to go get some, with comedic results.
- Women's Mysteries: How to handle menstruation, and maybe also how to do magic.
