Since The Incident is a Creepypasta written by Chelsea.adams.524. (The same author as A Bright Flash and Happy Sun Daycare).
The story takes place sometime after a war which resulted in the outbreak of a horrible disease. Throughout the story, the narrator explains the hardships the survivors must endure in the post-apocalyptic world. These include searching for food and water, being attacked by wild animals such as feral dogs or bears, and, most dangerous of all, surviving against them.
Who or what are they? Why are they so determined to hunt down the narrator and his (or her) group? One thing is for certain, whatever they are, they're certainly more familiar than we could ever imagine.

Since The Incident provides examples of-
- After the End: The tale takes place sometime after an unspecified war that lead to biological weaponry being used and the Apocalypse resulting.
- Ambiguous Gender: It's never outright stated if the narrator is male or female.
- Beware the Living: The Reveal is that the narrator is actually a zombie recounting how they and others like them are living in fear of humans trying to kill them.
- Humans Are the Real Monsters: The zombies do not eat brains or go after human flesh in this story. They're just undead so the humans are killing them off.
- Not Using the "Z" Word: Not once is the word "Zombie" used in the story. Of course, considering that the story itself is told from a zombie's perspective and the "monsters" are living humans, this is justified.
- Our Zombies Are Different: They're intelligent social creatures who are struggling to survive and simply want to be left in peace, and they don't eat human flesh or brains.
- Wham Line: "I wish the living would leave us alone."
- Zombie Apocalypse: Subverted. The zombies are the ones who are struggling to survive against humanity.
