Roys Bedoys (pronounced "Roys Buh-DOYCE") is a series of children's books by Christine and Eric Ha.

The series centers around a young boy named Roys Bedoys, who is about kindergarten age. In most stories, he does something wrong one or more times, only to eventually learn better (usually accompanied by the phrase "Roys Bedoys, make a smart choice"), resulting in An Aesop.

Recurring characters include Roys's friends Maker (a somewhat intellectual boy with glasses), Wen (a redheaded girl who's sometimes stated to be poor), Truly (an active girl), and Flora (a demure girl who was introduced later in the series), his parents, and his younger brother Loys.

A web animation adaptation of the series, which is done with paper doll-like animation, can be found here.

Roys Bedoys provides examples of:

  • Absurd Phobia: “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, Roys Bedoys!” reveals that Loys is scared of feathers (or at least one particular feather).
  • Academic Athlete: Maker seems to be the most academically-focused out of the kid group, and he’s also seen playing sports with the others and “Don’t Be Jealous, Roys Bedoys!” reveals that he’s the fastest runner out of them.
  • Actually Pretty Funny: Roys is initially angry when a seagull poops on him in “Let’s Go on a Road Trip, Roys Bedoys!”, but he later sees the funny side of it and asks for a photo of it.
  • Aerith and Bob: Generally speaking, the male characters have made-up names (Roys, Loys, Maker, etc) while the females have real names (Wen, Truly, Flora, etc.) Joys and Hopper are exceptions to the gender rule.
  • An Aesop: The vast majority of the stories have morals, and the series as a whole has a theme of making good choices.
  • Aesop Amnesia:
    • Roys occasionally lies, despite learning not to lie in “Stop Lying, Roys Bedoys”. Perhaps justified due to his young age.
    • In “Don’t Be a Sore Loser, Roys Bedoys!”, Roys learns not to be a sore loser, but in later stories, he goes back to being one.
    • “Stop Blaming People, Roys Bedoys!” and “It’s Your Fault, Roys Bedoys!” both have the moral of accepting that things are your fault.
  • Agony of the Feet: In “That’s Dangerous, Roys Bedoys!”, Roys’s foot ends up feeling sore when he lands abruptly on it.
  • Alien Abduction: Discussed in “Where Are You, Roys Bedoys?”, where Roys stays at Maker’s house for about three hours, and Loys wonders if Roys was kidnapped by aliens.
  • All Girls Like Ponies: In “Forgive People, Roys Bedoys!”, the girls are seen playing with toy unicorns.
  • Animate Inanimate Object: In “Behave at the Library, Roys Bedoys!”, Roys and his friends listen to a story that involves a talking hat.
  • Annoyingly Repetitive Child: In "Y is Not for Why, Roys Bedoys!", Roys's classmates are annoyed by him singing, "Why, why, tell me why" over and over again.
  • April Fools' Plot: In “It’s April Fool’s Day, Roys Bedoys!”, the kids prank one another on April Fool’s Day, and Roys tricks Wen into thinking there is free food, which he learns is inappropriate due to her informed poverty.
  • Are We There Yet?:
    • In “Let’s Go on a Road Trip, Roys Bedoys!”, Roys is impatient in the car and asks several times whether they’re at the dinosaur theme park yet.
    • In “It’s Christmas, Roys Bedoys!”, Roys asks, “Are we there yet?” when driving to his grandparents’ house.
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: In “Don’t Feed Wildlife, Roys Bedoys!”, the park ranger says that the things wild animals can do involve damaging property, biting, scratching, and leaving poop.
  • Artistic License – Animal Care: In “No Cookies, Roys Bedoys”, Panther eats a cookie. Cookies are bad for cats, and chocolate chip ones are very toxic to them.
  • Asian and Nerdy: Downplayed on both counts for Maker, who seems to be part Asian (his dad’s last name is Chan and looks like he could be Asian, while his mom is clearly white) and is the best student and sometimes has general knowledge the others don’t.
  • Asleep in Class: In “Don’t Stay Up Late, Roys Bedoys!”, Roys stays up late playing a video game and falls asleep at his desk the next day.
  • Baby See, Baby Do: In “Don’t Say Bad Words, Roys Bedoys!”, Roys swears in front of his two-year-old brother Loys, who later swears.
  • Baby Talk: In “Don’t Feed Wildlife, Roys Bedoys!”, Roys calls a squirrel “squirrely whirly”.
  • Baffled by Own Biology:
    • In "Stay at Home, Roys Bedoys!", Roys is congested and out of breath and thinks he must have COVID-19. As it turns out, there was no particular reason why he had boogers in his nose, and was only out of breath because he'd been running.
    • In one story, Roys thinks he's sick when he's actually dehydrated.
    • In "Christmas is the Season of Loving, Roys Bedoys", Roys doesn't understand why his back's sore. It turns out that he's turned into an old man overnight (though this later turns out to be All Just a Dream).
  • Banana Peel: In “No Littering, Roys Bedoys!”, Maker slips on a banana peel while skating.
  • Bathroom Search Excuse: In “Roys Bedoys & the Three Little Pigs”, Roys, playing the Big Bad Wolf, pretends he needs to use the second pig (played by Truly)’s bathroom to try to get her to let him in.

  • Bears Are Bad News: In “Don’t Feed the Wildlife, Roys Bedoys!”, a grizzly bear shows up, scaring all of the kids.
