An Isekai light novel series written by Nekoko with illustrations done by Naji Yanagida. In a world full of dangerous monsters, our unnamed protagonist finds himself reborn at the very bottom of the food chain as an immobile, powerless egg. Even just hatching will require leveling up by fighting monsters-the same monsters who'd love to eat him as a snack. But with the help of the mysterious voice in his head, he's determined to grow into the most powerful creature in the world!

Tropes;

  • Badass Adorable: Illusia in his Baby Dragon stage.
  • Bad Powers, Good People: As a Plague Dragon, Illusia is basically a living biological hazard. In spite of that, he's a heroic individual who yearns for companionship.
  • Break His Heart to Save Him: After the Little Rock Dragon's rampage in the second volume, Illusia slashes Myria in order to scare her off, afraid that his metamorphosis into an adult Plague Dragon will hurt her if she gets too close. He also considers driving off the black lizard and ape monsters to protect them too.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Illusia remains a good person despite his evolution into a Plague Dragon.
  • Did Not Think This Through: Illusia chooses Young Plague Dragon as his second evolution due to Voice of God baiting him with the Humanization skill. He becomes suspicious that it was a trick, but unlocks it after befriending the black lizard.
  • Jerkass Gods: Voice of God is a mysterious entity disguised as a skill who manipulates Illusia into selecting the build it wants for him on top of taunting the poor dragon. It's later revealed to be manipulating various monsters, Illusia included, into participating in some kind of battle royale in order to use the winner for some nefarious purpose.
  • Regularly Scheduled Evil: Every five hundred years a villain called The Demon King appears to wreck havoc on the land. This time, The Demon King is our hero Illusia, and is trying to keep from being evil.
  • Reincarnated as a Non-Humanoid: Illusia has memories of being a Japanese human in his past life, but is reincarnated as a dragon.
  • Shout-Out: The Big Bad of the second volume is a sentient blue slime with the power to copy the abilities of those it consumes, who commands a horde of monsters that includes demonic wolves, and who is being guided by the Divine Voice to become a god.
