Prison Life Is Easy for a Villainess (婚約破棄から始まる悪役令嬢の監獄スローライフ Konyaku Haki kara Hajimaru Akuyaku Reijou no Kangoku Slow Life, "The Villainess' Slow Prison Life Began With Her Broken Engagement") is a Slice of Life comedy Light Novel series by Hibiki Yamazaki, illustrated by Tetsuhiro Yamashima.

Following a party one night, Duke Ferguson's daughter Rachel is accused by her fiancé Prince Elliot of offenses she doesn't remember committing, and is incarcerated in the palace dungeon. But much to the chagrin of her jailors, she's already arranged for her cell to become a Luxury Prison Suite, and, freed of the obligations of being a respectable noblewoman, is able to let her true, utterly psychopathic personality shine through as she relaxes and passes the time making life hell for her various enemies.

The series began life as a Web Serial Novel on Shousetsuka Ni Narou on 29 April 2018, finishing with 31 chapters on 29 May. It was remade as a Light Novel by Kadokawa, which began publication on 18 January 2019. J-Novel Club began publishing the series in English under its J-Novel Heart imprint on 23 February 2022. A manga adaptation drawn by Miya Taira was published from July to September 2019, but ended after only three chapters.

This show provides examples of:

  • Black-and-Gray Morality: Prince Elliot is a self-absorbed and very stupid mad who frames Rachel just to get rid of her. He also threatens to attack her in her cell (or have his knights do so with spears) and orders that she is given no food. He also broke the betrothal to her in a very unacceptable way. However, Rachel herself is no shrinking violet. In fact, she's quite the opposite. She is a true sociopath who is fine with taking lives (she has in the past) and doing whatever she has to to survive. Plus, she is incredibly intelligent and manipulative as well.
  • Disposable FiancĂ©e: Subverted. During the story, all the people in the government say that Rachel is the most important person in the kingdom, because Elliot is too stupid to be a good politician or a good king.
  • Might as Well Not Be in Prison at All: Much to the prince's dismay, Rachel has already transported all of her daily needs into the cell beforehand, and she treats her imprisonment more like a leisurely holiday. A more comedic take on the "Reborn as Villainess" Story, as the focus is Rachel's outrageous behaviors and the prince's comedic failures in harassing her.
  • Oh, Crap!: Duke Ferguson reacts this way to his the annulment of Rachel's engagement and imprisonment, aware that Prince Elliot has awoken a sleeping giant, being aware of how scary his daughter can be.
  • Past-Life Memories: Averted, despite it belonging to a subgenre of isekai. Rachel isn't a reincarnated person; she is "just" very intelligent.
  • "Reborn as Villainess" Story: Despite no reincarnation happening at all. Rachel Ferguson, a young noblewoman, is accused of crimes she has never done by her own fiancé, Prince Elliott. Now her engagement is broken, and she is sent to a cell in the castle dungeon. All exactly as she expected. Much to the prince's dismay, Rachel has already transported all of her daily needs into the cell beforehand, and she treats her imprisonment more like a leisurely holiday. A more comedic take on the story, as the focus is Rachel's outrageous might as well not be in prison at all behaviors and Prince Elliott's comedic failures in harassing her.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: All the judgements in the sixth chapter is done while the adults like the Duke and the King aren't present. It was obvious that when they finish their vacations, all these decisions would be invalidated for the want of authority.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Elliot and all his friends are very stupid. Skies, George and Wolonski are the exception, but only because the average intelligence is very low. Only these three persons aren't expelled at the end of the story. The rest go to be the minions of Elliot, and they can't think that they were expelled from the capital by their families.
  • Women Are Wiser: The only idiot among the women in the cast is Margaret. The only wise male in the cast is the King.
