Tropes in the series include:

  • Action Girl: All of the main characters except for Vashti are women, and each of them are skilled in combat in their own right
  • Action Mom: Gunari recuses her daughter from execution in Starlight.
  • Affably Evil: Maria and Joesph are genuinely polite. They also love each other very much.
  • Bad Boss: Though She is forgiving to a point, Maria eventually kills Windsor after he not only fails to kill Eden and Rachel, but lets Tasaria escape after she betrays him.
  • Badass in Distress: Tasaria, when she is captured by Joseph and his elites
  • Big Bad: Maria and Joesph are the heads of the Gilded Cross, so they function as this for the whole series. That said:
    • The Beginning of the End: Windsor.
  • Big Good: Gunari.
  • Childhood Friends:
    • Gunari and Vashti, shockingly enough.
    • Rachel and Eden are also childhood friends.
  • Cluster F-Bomb: Gunari's introduction is her delivering an angry, swear laden rant to a preacher inciting violence against Roja people.
  • Cool Airship: The GCAS Fatherland, being incredibly massive and lined with rows of cannons.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Eden and Tasaria vs Joseph. Joseph starts the fight by shooting Eden in the kneecap, incapacitating her. Tasaria is taken out soon after by a shot to the foot before being pistol-whipped.
  • Dark Action Girl: Maria is more then capable of holding her own, even if her husband and the rest of the Gilded Cross do most of the dirty work.
  • Dark Is Not Evil:
    • Gunari, who uses shadow magic, wields a scythe and wears a helmet with raven markings on it, is the Big Good of the series.
    • Tasaria also uses shadow magic, but she is also a wonderful person.
  • Dirty Coward: Windsor is sent packing the second Tasaria stands up to him.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: Windsor is the Big Bad of the first story.
  • Dual Wield: Tasaria dual wields a pair of curved blades. Once they are shattered by Windsor, she simply uses shadow magic to recreate them
  • Easy Sex Change: Eden manages to turn her body into that of a girl’s by placing a rune on her shoulder.
  • Elite Mook: Joseph's personal guard, who are stated to be vastly more experienced than the normal grunt.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Maria and Joesph are married, and their love is genuine.
  • Fantastic Racism: The Gilded Cross are a Yeshu supremacy movement, and are dedicated to the eradication of any race they deem “inferior”.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Windsor is pretty polite when he’s not committing mass murder without remorse or mercilessly beating his partner to the ground for not taking part in the slaughter of a caravan.
  • Good Old Fisticuffs: Eden alternates between this fighting style and using a staff. She often imbues fire into these attacks as well.
  • Hate Sink: Windsor, the Starter Villain, has absolutely nothing likable or cool about him. He is nothing more then a cowardly, abusive, and murderous racist.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Tasaria begins questioning the ideology of the Gilded Cross from the first time we see her, but it's when she found out they lied to her about her family that she went full face for good.
  • Jerkass: The nicest way to describe most of the Gilded Cross.
  • Light Is Good: Rachel is a practitioner of Light magic, using it to create barriers of light.
  • Limit Break: Magic is stated to be this, with most latent magic feeding off of emotions and storing it until it boils over. With enough experience, one can tap into it without the need of emotions, which comes in handy, considering magic intensifies emotions, often to the point where it affects how one fights.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Rachel's shield is a family heirloom, passed down from generation to generation. It is completely indestructible.
  • Mama Bear: Gunari cuts her way through a Gilded Cross hideout to save Tasaria from being executed.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • Windsor uses wind magic
    • Maria and Joseph get their names from The Virgin Mary and Joseph, and lead a group of Catholic extremists.
  • A Nazi by Any Other Name: The Gilded Cross is explicitly based off of Nazis, and are introduced commiting genocide.
  • Nice Guy:
    • Eden and Rachel are very sweet and compassionate for mercenaries.
    • Gunari gives Eden and Rachel a place to sleep and eat for nothing in return.
    • Vashti is pretty laid back and friendly. It helps that he spent most of his life with Gunari.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: If Vashti is anything to go by, Dragons are fully sentient and capable of speech.
  • Our Elves Are Different: The Alayim are very similar in appearance to Tolkeinesque Elves, but their culture draws heavily from Judaism.
  • Playing with Fire: Eden uses fire to imbue her melee strikes.
  • Precision F-Strike: Gunari lets one out when the alarm is set off in Fort Romulus.
  • Smurfette Principle: Inverted. Vashti is the only male character out of the main group.
  • Would Hurt a Child: The Gilded Cross see nothing wrong with subjecting children of other Races to disembowelment.
