Ezzie is a detective story written by OriginalWriting.

The story follows a pair of dysfunctional detectives trying to solve the triple homicide of a family to find the missing Sole Survivor, the daughter of the family, Elizabeth, nicknamed Ezzie.

Tropes:

  • Anti-Hero: Both Cassidy and Jodie aren't the most upright people, but they are cops who care about innocent lives and want to find Elizabeth.
  • Big Bad: Roger is the man who had Elizabeth's family killed and her abducted.
  • Black-and-Grey Morality: Cassidy and Jodie are described as "dysfunctional detectives" and not without reason. Cassidy is a snarky alcoholic who disrespects her Chief, while Jodie is insanely abrasive. That said, Roger and his men are murderous bastards who have no problem slaughtering a family.
  • Brooklyn Rage: Jodie and her wife, Catherine, are introduced in a screaming match, where it’s stated they both have thick Brooklyn accents. Jodie is this especially, as she is also a cop.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Roger is a perpetually cheerful, jolly and goofy guy, he's also monstrous piece of work who sees no issue with having an entire family slaughtered and the daughter given to his sadistic right-hand man.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: It doesn't take much to set Jodie off.
  • He Knows Too Much: Roger had Mason and his family killed because of this. He also intends to kill Cassidy, Jodie and Gerald to cover up loose ends.
  • Jerkass: Roger is a smug piece of work, mocking his enemies and victims with a smile on his face.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold:
    • Cassidy is aloof and snarky, but she is humble enough to apologize when she goes to far and has far more friends on the force than Jodie.
    • Jodie is a very aggressive, confrontational person. She snaps at her wife, partner and fellow officers constantly, but she does love her wife, and wants to solve the Walker Family's murder and save Elizabeth.
    • Chief Lance is a hard man with a short temper, but he backpedals, apologizes, and noticeably softens up when he says something too harsh to Cassidy.
  • Mayor Pain: Roger is revealed to be the Mayor with a history of corruption.
  • Torture Technician: Wally is introduced torturing a man to death with a chainsaw.
  • Tranquil Fury: In a startling contrast to her bouts of screaming rage, when Roger mocks Jodie's deceased daughter, she very calmly threatens to tear his throat out.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Roger tasks Wally and his men with killing Cassidy and Jodie, along with Gerald to cover up loose ends. He also had no issue ordering Mason’s wife murdered and his daughter handed over to Wally, and his henchman Jason has no problem doing it.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Roger ordered the death of Mason's son Jack, and handed his daughter over to Wally.
