Lets Play / The Cosmic Superstars

Go To

The Cosmic Superstars is a Twitch streaming group consisting primarily of cosmosgirl87, GrimReaperSakura, WaveLightning777 and SkyLordRukaru. Though all of them (with the exception-as-of-writing of Rukaru) all stream individually, their most notable streams come from when they play any number of multiplayer games, most notably Overwatch and Dead by Daylight.

Tropes Pertaining to the Group as a Whole/Multiplayer:

  • Ax-Crazy: All four of them when they play killer in Dead by Daylight. What form this tends to take varies based on who is killing.
  • Berserk Button: They each have at least one, some easier to push than others.
  • Big Word Shout: Wave mainly, but the other three do too. Often in the form of Big "NO!" or Big "YES!", but can be other things too.
  • Butt-Monkey: Wave and Rukaru when the four play Dead By Daylight in Survive With Friends, which entails the killer being a random hunting them down. Lampshaded by Wave himself.
Wave: There's always one of two outcomes... either I die first, or Rukaru dies in a sacrifice.
    Rukaru: Yeah, pretty much.
  • Catchphrase:
    • Grim: "Listen..."
    • Wave: "Dammit, Rukaru..." (This is usually his response to a pun)
    • Cosmos: "But you guys...!"
    • Rukaru doesn't have an explicit phrase, but his uncanny ability to create puns on the fly makes up for it.
  • Deadpan Snarker: While Cosmos and Rukaru get in on snarking from time-to-time, Wave and Grim are essentially snark masters.
  • Drunken Master: Grim. It's very common to hear her mention having had some sort of drink.
  • Gender-Equal Ensemble: The main four; ladies Cosmos and Grim, Gents Rukaru and Wave.
  • Genki Girl: Cosmos, easily. Grim averts the trope, hard.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: A lot of them, actually. Notables include shrimpboatman and Danielle McRae. The later of which is indeed a name you might have seen before.
    • And of course, they might each be this to each others' solo streams.
  • The Heavy: In Overwatch, Grim and Rukaru main tank characters (D'Va specifically in Grim's case, Rukaru is Tanks in general).
  • The Medic: In Overwatch, Cosmos and Wave main support characters (Lucio and Mercy respectively).
  • My Friends... and Zoidberg: A non-malicious example; Rukaru stands out as being the only one who doesn't actively stream. The other three are trying to change this.
  • Precision F-Strike: Grim and Wave are both pretty prone to this, as are many of the guest stars. Cosmos and Rukaru let them slip occasionally, though.
  • Pungeon Master: RUKARU. Wave tends to facepalm when Rukaru gets punny, but occasionally he's Not So Above It All himself.
  • Running Gag: A few.
    • Cosmos screaming in absolute horror when the killer (no matter who it is) goes after her. Bonus terror if it's The Wraith, The Hag or Amanda Young doing their sneak tactics.
    • Grim throwing Rukaru and Wave out of her Waifu Bag.
  • Schedule Slip: Happens to Cosmos and Wave a LOT, and Grim occasionally too.
  • Self-Deprecation: Grim and Cosmos both tend to call themselves garbage in Overwatch. Wave and Rukaru disagree.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Wave, so very much. Even if his definition of evil is to set up entertainment for the future. Some examples:
    • He was the one who introduced Cosmos to Danganronpa and, in her words, ruined her life- she likes the games a LOT.
    • During one DBD stream, the idea of Cosmos streaming Five Nights At Freddys came up (Rukaru was playing The Hag and had gotten her several times). Wave, to Cosmos's horror, gifted her the game at the stream's end.
    • Perhaps fittingly, he also tends to gravitate toward Reaper, Sombra and Moira (all members of Overwatch's bad guy faction, Talon) when he's not playing Mercy.
    • He's also the most psychotic when being killer in DBD. He's aware of this and plays it up for all its worth.
  • Undying Loyalty: The four to each other, of course.

Tropes pertaining to their individual streams:

    cosmosgirl87

     GrimReaperSakura

     WaveLightning777

  • The Ace: When it comes to the Sonic the Hedgehog series in particular. A fair portion of his solo streams involve the Blue Blur, and his skill shows.
  • Archive Panic: A minor example, but Wave is the only one of the four who regularly archives his streams to his Youtube page.
  • Casual Danger Dialogue: Has taken to this when a killer doesn't catch him by surprise in DBD.
Grim: Is she still on you, Wave? note
Wave: [While dropping a pallet on the killer's head and in a completely calm tone] Yep. [Then dodges a throwing axe]
  • Declaration of Protection: Invokes this during DBD whenever one of his friends (though not randoms) uses an Escape Cake note , by calling the user a Precious Cinnamon Roll and vowing to protect them so they can reap their cake, unless he himself uses one. Often results in him Taking the Bullet for the cake user.
  • Fan Boy: Of Chiaki Nanami. It shows with his avatar, his offline image, and even his alert box setup.
  • Press X to Die: Will do this in games occasionally if the result is funny enough to show off, case and point, shooting the lake in Resident Evil 4.
  • Press X to Not Die: When not invoking the above, he's typically pretty good about QTEs, at least when he knows they're coming.
  • Terrible Artist: For as much as Cosmos inverts the trope, Wave plays it painfully straight.
  • Visible Silence: Wave invoked this trope on Cosmos during Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, specifically during Chapter 5 when Chiaki was revealed as the traitor. Cosmos even acknowledged that it was a legitimate hint, given Wave's Opinion of the character in question.
  • Yin-Yang Bomb: A mild case, as he's a healer main in some games (notably Overwatch) and completely Ax-Crazy in others (notably DBD). Referenced in his subscriber emotes where his Tier 2 is Amanda Young while his planned Tier 3 is Angela Ziegler. (aka, The Pig and Mercy respectively)

     SkyLordRukaru

  • Born Lucky: Seems to have unnaturally high luck (shown by things such as his summons in Fire Emblem Heroes). In fact, Rukaru's luck has been compared to that of Nagito Komaeda.
  • Cue the Flying Pigs: He streamed Astebreed. Rukaru claims it was intended to be a quickie test stream, but it turned into a 3 hour boss fight. Bonus points for it happening on Grim's birthday.
  • Fan Boy: Just like Wave, he's one for Chiaki Nanami. Which one is the bigger Fan Boy is up for debate.
  • Tempting Fate: Invoked this on Wave when the latter was playing Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Wave mentioned how he COULD go gambling in Casino Night Zone, Rukaru said "You know you want to." Cue Wave's first spin being three Robotniks. note
  • Workaholic: Has FOUR jobs. This is the key reason he doesn't stream like the other three.
