Hey, it’s Lemon. Welcome to The Backlogs.
The Backlogs is a YouTube channel run by user Submerged Lemon. He focuses on challenge runs of Salt and Sanctuary and Dark Souls, specifically runs using one type of weapon/item.
The channel can be found here.
Tropes:
- Alternative Character Interpretation: Invoked for certain challenge runs, such as the Dead Space 2 Flamethrower run where Issac is represented as an office worker with the Marker interpreted as a writing utensil and Issac's growing madness recontextualized as caused by him sniffing it.
- Audience Participation: Lemon's final Salt and Sanctuary challenge run has members of the community act as boss fights, with Lemon unable to use rest spots until he defeats the player guarding them.
- Badass Boast: "It always seems impossible until it is done."
- Bring It: The ending of the Salt and Sacrifice firebomb only run. Lemon chooses the Devour ending, only having three words for the gods for if they decide to punish the Firebomb Academy Scholar for his transgression: "Let them come."
- Crazy Enough to Work: The whole crux of the channel. Beat the Nintendo Hard Dark Souls trilogy using only firebombs? Sounds insane, yet Lemon has done it.
- Dem Bones: Lemon commonly refers to these types of characters as "Tony".
- Limited Loadout: The most common type of challenge run he tackles is going through the entire game with a specific weapon or weapon type.
- Mirror Match: Tortoise, the final (player) opponent in Lemon's PVP Salt and Sanctuary challenge run, copies Lemon's build to force a match between two firebomb-chucking pugilists.
- "Not Wearing Pants" Dream: A variation in his Enemy Within: MEC Trooper Only run, where he mentions he had a faint memory of a MEC Trooper getting sent into the Base Defense mission without his suit. Lemon references the trope in a skit immediately afterwards.Lemon!Soldier: Did you forget your pants?Lemon!MEC Trooper: NO. I FORGOT MY ENTIRE BODY.Lemon!Soldier: Oh, that's way worse!
- One-Man Army: Did two challenge runs of XCOM: Enemy Within that only allowed him to attack with one regular soldier and one MEC Trooper respectively. Only the latter succeeded.
- Papa Wolf: Shows this side of him when playing BioShock 2 plasmids while roleplaying as a Big Daddy.Lemon: YOU SOLD MY DAUGHTER, STANLEY!
- Rotten Robotic Replacement: Played for Laughs with JojaBot in Can You Beat Stardew Valley Without Using Energy, a robot sent by Joja Corp. to take care of the farm. JojaBot is heavily prone to glitches, has a horrible battery life (the In-Universe reason for not using energy) with a personality that flips between Cloudcuckoolander and Comedic Sociopathy with a few moments of unexpected brilliance to solve problems Lemon can't solvenote .
- Running Gag: In Enemy Within runs, yelling "Answer me!" with a Skeletor impression during the Base Defense cutscene.
- Sanity Slippage: Goes a bit loopy after months of trying to defeat Gerhman in his Bloodborne molotov-only run, with his advice for defeating The First Hunter interwoven between mad ramblings. He gets better, though.
- Sir Swears-a-Lot: Lemon curses a fair amount in his videos, using everything from “damn” to “fuck”.
- Technical Pacifist: Can You Beat Salt and Sanctuary As A Pacifist? and Can You Beat Grime Without Weapons? tasks Lemon with beating games without attacking any enemies. Enemies killing themselves with Counter-Attack damage, on the other hand...
- Throw Down the Bomblet: The weapon type featured the most in his videos, with sixteen videos focusing on beating games while only using grenades and similar weaponsnote .
- "The Firebomb Goddess" is referenced in later videos as someone Lemon and his Player Character(s) follow. The tenet of the "Firebomb Academy Scholars" is, of course, to slay their foes with firebombs.
- Vocal Evolution: Lemon’s voice was fairly quiet in his first few videos. Eventually, he became more energetic and audible.
