Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches
Most of the ruder characters have a heart of gold deep down, but there has been a few characters who are or were pure jerkasses.
- Sasaki is the most traditional example in the series. She is a bully with no redeeming traits, no charisma and no funny lines to make up for her behavior.
- At her introduction, Odagiri doesn't have many redeeming traits except for her friendship with Ushio — she's rude, hot-tempered and manipulative. Later, she mellows into a Jerk with a Heart of Gold.
- At first, Noa tries to get the witches thrown out of school and is quite abrasive to those who aren't her friends. Like Odagiri, she also mellows.
- In the first witch war, Ushio is a prick similar to Odagiri — he does have some Pet the Dog moments later on, but never truly becomes a Jerk with a Heart of Gold like her. In the second witch war, he is a villain at first, but finally ends up showing that heart of gold after a Heel–Face Turn.
- Ichijo is a Smug Snake with a really bad attitude, and because of this he had no success with anything before acquiring his witch power. As Arisugawa eloquently puts it: "His personality stinks".
- Takuma is often reasonably pleasant, but at the end of the day, he only cares about himself and his own amusement, he doesn't keep promises, and he can be something of an Insufferable Genius.
- Konno starts out as a jerkass who puts unfair pressure on her co-players and is quite antagonistic towards the student council. She mellows once Yamada talks some sense into her.
- Kurosaki is fairly antisocial and impolite at his introduction and is directly called a jerk by Yamada. He also mellows out later.
- Along with Ichijo, Hagiwara is the rudest and most annoying member of the Japanese chess club.
- Ando is introduced as annoying, petty, and attention-whoring. She doesn't truly mellow into a Jerk with a Heart of Gold, but does get some redeeming Pet the Dog moments at the end of her arc.
- Similar to Sasaki, Tacchan is an annoying bully who forces Hikaru to do ridiculous things and laughs at him.
