Shaman King has some memorable scenes like:

General

  • The omake introduces some with Lyserg and a new character, Hudson. Fridge Brilliance on the creator's part, especially if you've seen Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes movies.
  • And special mention deserves to go to Marco and Luchist, who both strip down to their underwear before fighting for the final time, due to that apparently being how they channel their power the most comfortably. The two used to be close friends in their backstory.
  • In the 2001 anime, Ren is introduced for the first time to public bathrooms. Yoh, Manta and Horo Horo make devious grins when approaching to him to take off his clothes and get him in the hot springs with them.
  • Peyote says out loud in tears that he is the one who loves Hao the most.
  • As seen in the page image, Ryu gets a ride with a new oversoul thumb for hitchhiking, grabbing the attention of a truck driver named Billy. Ryu thanks him for the ride by staring at eachother's eyes and later having a big hug (which looks like a smooch). In the 2001 anime this becomes a running gag.

Horo Horo/Ren

  • Both meet each other for the first time at Yoh’s celebration dinner party. Horo Horo starts bickering with Ren, who replies to his mockery with some snide comments. According to Bason, who is crying happy tears, Ren has never been so happy in his life, while he and Horo Horo are fighting.
  • Many see the relationship between Ren and Horo Horo as Vitriolic Best Buds with a Slap-Slap-Kiss dynamic, to the point it remains the most popular ship in the fandom after Yoh/Anna. The 2021 anime apparently is very aware of this, since the merchandise usually puts both of them together in the same piece.
  • Despite knowing him for less than a day, Horo Horo joins Yoh, Ryu and Manta's trip to China to save Ren from his father.
  • When Horo Horo returns after being in the mountains for three days, Ren welcomes him by punching him, reacting like a jealous girlfriend to him. Horo Horo simply smiles (with a black eye) and lets him vent.
  • Despite fighting most of the time after meeting each other, Ren immediately puts his arms around Horo Horo (and Chocolove) and announces that they are now a team. Even when Horo Horo complains about Ren making hiself the leader of the trio, he still goes along with him.
  • Horo Horo gets furious when Ren is killed in his fight with Peyote, getting desperate when Faust declares that it’s too late to heal him.
  • In Funbari no Uta, after so many years and being adults now, Horo Horo and Ren still keep their usual Vitriolic Best Buds dynamic. Both are seen sharing drinks together with the rest of the gang, and the very last panel has both of them fighting in the streets, while their friends watch in amusement.
  • In Red Crimson, Horo Horo at first wants to visit Ren to see how is he doing (he really wants to ask him for a loan for his farm), but he ends up getting involved in the Tao family problems, finding out from Jun that Ren and Men recently lost Jeanne. Horo Horo is more worried about how Ren is hanging on.

Yoh/Ren

  • After both Ren and Yoh tied and made it into the main tournament, Yoh invites him to the celebration party at his house, because Yoh could see that deep down Ren was a good guy. Despite Ren constantly complaining, Bason says that Ren has never been so happy in his life. That said while Ren is fighting with Horo Horo while Yoh is trying to be between them.
  • Yoh catches Ren before he leaves in the middle of the night and both promise to see each other in the tournament after Ren is done with some personal stuff.
  • After learning that Ren has been captured by his father, Yoh doesn’t hesitate and decides to use his month before the tournament to travel to China and rescue Ren, despite the short time they have been friendly acquaintances.
  • Yoh decides to fight Lyserg only after he beats up Ren and Horo Horo, putting as his priority the well-being of his friends.
  • When Ren is killed by Peyote, and the only solution is having Iron Maiden Jeanne revive him, Yoh immediately accepts the only condition the X-LAWS put: That Yoh quits the tournament. That means Yoh renouncing his dream of being Shaman King (and Anna’s hopes as well) for the sake of saving Ren.

Ryu/Lyserg

  • To say nothing of Ryu's obvious feelings toward Lyserg, many of the guys fall into this.
    • Even after Lyserg shows all the gang that he is the guy (by flashing his crotch), Ryu still has a visible crush on him.
    • Ryu spends a lot of the manga and 2001 anime depressed after Lyserg joins the X-LAWS.
    • After Lyserg tells the group his story and they accept to have him in the group as their new friend, Ryu suggests that from now on they have to do everything together to get to know him better, especially sleeping, followed by a flirty wink. Lyserg can only cringe a bit at this.
    • In the manga and 2021 anime, Ryu requests Anna to save a spot for Lyserg in their team, but Anna refuses, since they don't have time to look for him. By Anna's reply, it's impled that Ryu has talked 'a lot about Lyserg.

Hao/Yoh

  • Hao refers to Yoh as "his other half" and how they will soon be one being again.
  • Hao chooses to have a talk with Yoh at the hot springs. Yoh is visibly taken aback by this.
  • When Yoh and Redseb are being attacked by the golem, Hao appears just in time to rescue Yoh, claiming that he was just strolling. It's implied that Hao was actually keeping an eye on Yoh.
  • Both have another talk at a cafe. Looks like they're having a date more than a truce talk.

Yoh/Lyserg

  • Yoh is very understanding of Lyserg's motivations, so he doesn't hold a grudge at Lyserg for joining the X-LAWS, but declares that he draws the line if Lyserg actually kills anyone.
  • Yoh is visibly bothered when Marco disciplines Lyserg. While he still respects Lyserg's decision to join the X-LAWS, he still makes sure he is fine there.

Marco/Lyserg

  • Marco is seen comforting a crying Lyserg after he decides to join them.
  • In one scene, Marco compliments Lyserg’s uniform, to which Lyserg responds by smiling, blushing and saying Marco is “embarrassing” him.
  • After the rest of the X-LAWS learn the truth about Iron Maiden Jeanne, Lyserg remains with him and Jeanne.
  • Apparently, Lyserg is the only one who knows that Belgian chocolate is enough to calm Marco when he gets hysterical.
  • After Marco and Luchist die in their final fight, Lyserg keeps Marco's kevlar glasses, and they end up saving his life in a later fight.
  • From Shaman King Marcos, Lyserg is sad that he couldn't find Marco and invite him to Jeanne's wedding. Lyserg spends most of the series trying to find him.
