Hilarious In Hindsight / This Bites!

Go To

This Bites! has had so many moments that have become amusing in light of canon, you'd think either the Cross-Brain was clairvoyant, or that Oda himself is a fan of the story!

  • The first few chapters of the story establish that Cross gets a bad case of diarrhea from eating biscuits. Months later, Oda introduces an antagonist that can create and manipulate biscuits as weapons. Their encounter should be quite amusing.
  • In Chapter 24, in response to one of Cross's remarks on the SBS, Zoro asks if Cross knows where he can get an elephant. Elsewhere, Fukuro of CP9 is listening to the broadcast and says, "Here," while gesturing to Funkfreed. Come chapters 42 and 43, Funkfreed does indeed wind up joining the crew, albeit as Cross's new partner (though he does team up with Zoro to temporarily take Yubashiri's place at one point while on Thriller Bark).
  • In Chapter 28, Soundbite gives Su the speaking voice of a Vulpix, as stated on the Shout-Out page. A few months later, the latest game of the franchise introduced "regional" variations, and a certain fiery fox is given an Ice-type relative with white fur and cloudy-like tails and hair tufts.
  • TB! resolves the Straw Hats' issue of needing an official helmsman by having the newly humanized Merry manning the Sunny's helm when the crew is leaving Water 7. Nearly a year later, Oda finally gives the crew a permanent canon helmsman (not to mention confirming fan theories) with Jinbe. A fierce but friendly rivalry is sure to abound in the fanfic's future.
  • TB!Nami receives a power boost from a cloud generated by the Eisen Dial that responds to her subconscious. Come Chapter 903 of the manga and Canon!Nami has a super-powerful cloud of her own!
    • Of similar note, the story has had Cross inadvertently taking possession of enemy Zoan weapons following the Alabasta and Enies Lobby arcs. The actual canon ends up doing something similar with Nami swiping Big Mom's living cloud, Zeus.
  • In Chapter 39, when Sengoku, Garp, and Tsuru are discussing what other big-name pirates are up to, Tsuru says that Cavendish "might have contracted some form of clairvoyance to help him achieve [Big Mom's] current reaction." It's since been revealed (via the Vivre Card databook) that Cavendish has Observation Haki; and about six months after chapter 39 was published, canon introduced Charlotte Katakuri and his advanced Observation Haki... which really does enable a limited form of clairvoyance, letting him see a few seconds into the future.
  • During the Post-Enies Lobby Arc, the TB! crew is shocked at seeing Cross' obscenely large bounty (which is hinted to be over 1 Billion). In Chapter 903, the canon Straw Hats are flabbergasted that Luffy's bounty has been raised to 1.5 Billion. (coincidentally, it was later revealed that this is the exact bounty Cross has gotten.)
    • Also during this time, it's shown that Su has taken Chopper's place of being mistaken for the Team Pet and is given a measly bounty of 100,000, which was 2000 times Chopper's first canon bounty. At the end of the Land of Wano arc, Chopper is still believed to be the Straw Hats' pet and his bounty is only raised to 1,000.
    • What's more, Going Merry, who had recently become human, received her own bounty after Enies Lobby, courtesy of a vindictive Garp. When the Straw Hats receive their post-Wano bounties, Franky's bounty picture is of the Thousand Sunny's figurehead, inadvertently putting a bounty on the Straw Hats' ship.
  • During the Post-Enies Lobby arc, Cross finds himself taken to Baltigo to meet with the Revolutionaries and then returned to Water 7, all of which happens in a couple hours, to give the impression that Dragon has scary resources. In Chapter 904, Oda introduces the revolutionary Karasu, who has a Devil Fruit that allows him to produce a murder of crows (later revealed in Chapter 1083 to be the Logia-type Susu Susu no Mi, or Soot-Soot Fruit), which would make transporting a person across the Red Line and back in a short time possible.
  • In Chapter 26, Vivi brings up the possibility of a time-based Devil Fruit, and Cross says he doesn't know of any. Nearly two and a half years later, it turns out there is one in canon: the Toki Toki no Mi/Time-Time Fruit, which is limited in that it only allows one-way travel into the future — it cannot send anyone into the past.
  • Doubling as Harsher in Hindsight, Awakened!Moria attempted to turn himself into a dragon with his Nidhogg transformation. It's later revealed that Kaido, the man who murdered his crew, has the Azure Dragon Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit. Moria was basically emulating him.
  • At the end of the Thriller Bark arc, to keep up with the rest of the crew, Su desires to seek out the Children of Inari to gain Kitsune-like powersnote . In the Wano Arc, we're shown that Kitsune-like foxes do exist as one disguised itself as a humannote . Basically, Su will fit in quite well in Wano.
  • Also during the Thriller Bark arc, Leo fights against the zombie of Captain Long John Silverteeth. While a troubling fight for the dugong, it was revealed in Chapter 957 that before leading his own crew, John was a member of the Rocks Pirates alongside Whitebeard, Kaido, and Big Mom. Meaning Leo defeated the reanimated corpse of a New World-level pirate.
    • Following his defeat, John gave Leo his own blades after the latter's pair broke when using a Razor Wind slash they were not ready to perform. Some time later, Leo acquired the swords of another big name among the Rocks Pirates: The dual swords Oto and Kagarashi of Shiki the Golden Lion.
  • On the subject of Shiki, it's shown during the climax of Strong World that one of the Visual Transponder Snails he delivered went to Tottoland. Initially, it was to show that Shiki wanted even the Four Emperors to know of his achievement. However, with the revelation that he was once part of the Rocks Pirates alongside Whitebeard, Kaido, and Big Mom, it can now be seen as Shiki showing off to his old crewmates.
    • It becomes even more hilarious as, during the Land Of Wano arc, Kaido uses his Devil Fruit powers to raise his island base into the air, similar to how Shiki raised Merveille, meaning it will now look like he got the idea from watching Shiki's broadcast.
  • In Chapter 920 of the manga, when Perona leaves Mihawk's island, he comments that it's a good thing she's getting out of dodge, in regards to The Reveal in Chapter 956 that the Warlord system has been abolished. The hilarious part comes in that TB!Perona is one of the Seven Warlords, meaning that when the system is abolished in TB!, she'll be in the same boat as him.
  • Cross, upon learning about Vivi's Sovereign's Will (an offshoot of Conqueror's Haki), expresses genuine surprise that she has it due to its rarity; as Luffy also has Conqueror's Haki, Cross didn't expect anyone else on the crew to inherit it. Come Chapter 1010, and it's revealed that Zoro has Conqueror's Haki as well.
    • Doubly hilarious with the following earlier line, which ultimately proved to be unintentional foreshadowing: "I swear, if [Zoro] didn't have Conqueror's Haki, then the glare he was pinning Lassoo with was close enough to fool anyone on this side of the Red Line who didn't know any better."
  • In the Ice Hunter Arc, during the Accino wedding, Robin, the organist, played "A Night on Bald Mountain". In the Wano arc of the manga, Robin defeats Black Maria by unveiling a technique where she creates a huge demonic clone of herself, which looks eerily like Chernabog.
  • 1044 makes this for numerous points in the story: Giving numerous animals the voices of cartoon characters as well as some of Luffy's more unbelievable moments like outsurfing the Octopus Shogun and mistaking Coby for Natsu Dragneel.
  • Cross's name, Jeremiah, is a bit of an Ironic Name if you draw a comparison to the Prophet Jeremiah, as despite Cross playing a similar role by trying and failing to stop a war, Cross is a Nay-Theist. 1044 reveals that Luffy is the avatar of the Sun God Nika, meaning Cross does indeed follow a god, and one coming to overthrow the false gods the world has elevated at that.
  • While on Skelter Bite, Cross (with Apis's help) convened with a representative of the Sea Kings to guarantee safe passage through the sea for the Straw Hats and their allies using 'Joy Boy' as a Trust Password based on Poseidon's promise with the ancient figure. As the manga reveals later on, Joy Boy ends up becoming a more prominent part of the story, especially regarding Luffy.
  • At the end of the Enies Lobby arc, Merry gains a human form by eating a Devil Fruit, with Vivi figuring it was a different model to the Human-Human Fruit that Chopper ate. The manga reveals that Chopper isn't the only Human-Human Zoan on the crew as it turns out that Luffy's Devil Fruit is really the Human-Human Fruit Model: Nika.
    • At the same time, it was mentioned that Zoan Fruits have a will of their own. This casts a new light on Cross finding the Devil Fruit that saved Merry, making it seem like it was as much the fruit's influence as it was BROB's.
    • On the subject of BROB, during the Alabasta arc, the entity temporarily caused an increase in gravity that affected everyone except Luffy. While this at first seemed to be attributed to the fact that he was a D., it now appears to be because Luffy is a Reality Warper too. Even funnier, BROB had told Luffy that as tough as he was, he wasn't in the entity's weight class.
    • Another detail that makes it more amusing is that TB! Chopper began to develop a theory that Zoans aren't restricted to merely ''three' forms like they believe and that their transformations are only bound by what they imagine. With the reveal that Luffy, who is a master of coming up with inventive ways to use his Devil Fruit, is actually a Zoan instead of a Paramecia, Chopper's theory has more proof.
    • Doubling with Heartwarming in Hindsight, during Sabaody Revolutionary, the Straw Hats and their allies break apart the slave market on Sabaody Archipelago, complete with Luffy starting a bonfire with the slaves' explosive collars. It was mentioned that Sun God Nika, the being Luffy's fruit is based off, was known as the "Warrior of Liberation". The Cross-Brain inadvertently had Luffy live up to a title he had yet to gain.
  • The fact that the fanfic has been turning Buggy the Clown into an Adaptational Badass becomes this in Chapter 1053 where with the defeat of Big Mom and Kaido, Buggy has officially been declared one of the new Emperors, with Mihawk, whose respect he earned in the Marineford arc of this fanfic, by his side.
    • Even funnier when Shanks accepts TB!Buggy's offer of dueling with each other again as they will be fellow rival Emperors in the future.
  • An extremely powerful combatant with Devil Fruit abilities, Undying Loyalty to Akainu, and a 'Ruhahaha/Rahahaha' laugh — wait, are we talking about Aramaki or Irian?
  • Shortly before Marineford, the fic introduced Irian, who has a Devil Fruit that can force any enemy into Involuntary Dance. In 2021, a villain named Herz with that same power appeared in the One Piece live Premier Show at Universal Studios of Japan.
  • During the Water 7 arc, Cross claims that after the blueprints are destroyed, with Robin having no intention to awaken the Ancient Weapons, Pluton will no longer be a concern. In the final chapters of the Wano arc, it's revealed that Pluton is kept underneath Wano, and that opening the borders of the country—that is, tearing down the walls around the island—will release the lake that was hiding Pluton from the world and unleash the Weapon. In Cross's defense, however, he did say barring any unforeseen circumstances.
  • When leaving Skypiea, Aisa, who had become more enamored by the crew than she did in canon, vowed to one day join the Straw Hatsnote . At the end of the Land of Wano arc, Tama, the little girl Luffy had bonded with due to their shared history with Ace, wanted to join the crew once she learned ninjitsu.
  • The main character Cross's name becomes this trope in Chapter 1056 with the reveal of Emperor Buggy's new faction, named the Cross Guild. The Cross Guild became notorious for very similar reasons to Jeremiah Cross himself, namely for causing issues for the Marines without having to throw a punch. Cross has spent his time on the SBS exposing numerous crimes of the Government, while the Guild outright puts bounties on the heads of the Marines.
  • In part 4 of Marineford Misery, Buggy threatens Mr. 3 with death if he ever double-crosses him — well, it seems that Galdino swearing loyalty to Crocodile like he did in canon after Buggy was made an Emperor sure won't happen here!
  • In the Egghead Island arc, an updated version of Pacifista called "Seraphim" are introduced, which are child-like versions of Warlords of the Sea; the appearance of which throws off their opponents as they are reluctant to attack children. Amusingly, TB! Merry gains a child-like form, and yet it doesn't dissuade those she fights from retaliating.
  • The BioMEGAs are half-beast, half-machine, all horrifying monsters made by the collective effort of Ratchet, Hogback, and Indigo. Introduced in Chapter 1061 and fully shown in 1062, Vegapunk has cyborg Sea Kings to act as guards for Egghead, streamlined and fully controllable. In other words, Vegapunk outdid them again.
  • In Chapter 1062 while the Straw Hats are on Egghead island, it's mentioned that Vegapunk's research team goes through a lot of funds quickly, leading them to loot whatever ships come near the island. Considering the fact that Capone Bege has cleaned out Fort Lumose, the team is definitely strapped for funds now.
  • In Chapter 1065: Vegapunks' satellites study the Straw Hats' skirmish with an experimental Seraphim, considering it a rare opportunity to gather extremely rich battle data. Thanks to the Vision Transponder Snails dispersed throughout the world by Shiki, they're able to watch the Straw Hats' many battles, meaning they have access to data like never before.
  • In One Piece Film: Red, Uta, the world's greatest diva and main antagonist of the movie, has eaten the Sing-Sing Fruit, a Devil Fruit that lets her send anyone who hears her singing into a world where she's a Dream Weaver with near-absolute power... as long as they can hear her singing. In essence, Soundbite, the "God of Noise", is her hard counter. Made even funnier when you consider an Anime Movie Villain's biggest counter is a literal snail.
    • Speaking of which, in Road to Sabaody arc, Bartolomeo tells Foxy that he has yet to contain sounds within his Barrier-Barrier Fruit power, something that he also said in the Dressrosa arc in canon. In this film, he uses his barriers to contain Uta and her Sing-Sing Fruit power ... At least until she decided to summon Tot Musica.
    • Also in Film: Red, we're introduced to the Livestream Transponder Snail, a special type of Transponder Snail developed by Vegapunk that can broadcast all around the world, with Uta having the only one due to the prototypes all being lost. Doesn't that sound a lot similar to Cross's Snail Transceiver?
  • During the Enies Lobby arc, one of the voices Robin hears over the SBS to inspire her is her giant friend, Saul. While this was to show that Soundbite's powers allows contact with the deceased, it's revealed in Chapter 1066 that Saul is still alive, meaning that the scene is retroactively retconned in that Saul actually called the SBS and Soundbite didn't realize it. Even better, the ability for someone to call in without Soundbite realizing it was confirmed in two separate ways — on Skypeia, Cross was able to have a meeting with MI3 without Soundbite waking up, and shortly after Enies Lobby, Terry was able to call in to the SBS without having it ring (which Soundbite himself lampshaded: "TERRY? I DIDN'T EVEN 'RING!'") Therefore, it looks like this was deliberately set up by the authors specifically for this moment... even though it wasn't.
    • Adds a moment of awesome in hindsight, since if Saul was still alive and just called in stealthily, that means that the first person to call in from the Other Side is none other than Gol D. Roger himself, making the man even more impressive and his legend even greater.
  • In addition to the above, it’s mentioned in Part One of the Denouement that the books that Ohara's scholars threw into the water are still there, and slowly disintegrating. Chapter 1066 shows that the books were successfully recovered after Ohara's destruction and hidden by Saul's giants, with the contents memorized by Vegapunk.
  • During the Water 7 arc, after Cross mentions Dr. Vegapunk to him, Franky replies "Doctor Who?" In the Egghead island arc of the manga, it's revealed that Vegapunk had split his being into seven entities, in affect giving him several different faces and identities just like the Doctor.
  • The fact that Rob Lucci and the other former members of CP9 have become indirect allies of the TB!Straw Hats becomes this in the Egghead Island arc when Lucci and Kaku, now members of CP0, show up, leading to a rematch between Luffy and Lucci. Naturally, the TB! version of this arc will be vastly different. The Cross-Brain had said they wanted to dynamite The Stations of the Canon after the timeskip anyway!
    • Also, in Chapter 1069 it's shown that Lucci has managed to Awaken his Cat-Cat Fruit. What makes this amusing is that his TB! counterpart is becoming stronger in his own way by learning the ways of Haki from the Kuja warriors, meaning that said counterpart will be quite a force after the timeskip.
      • The fact that TB!Rob Lucci is depicted as a Graceful Loser, someone who takes pride that he managed to push Luffy farther than a Warlord and "God", meanwhile Canon!Rob Lucci is a Sore Loser who is still salty for his defeat in Enies Lobby and refuses to admit that Luffy is more powerful than him.
  • In the Egghead Island arc of the manga, Conflicting Loyalties to different factions has lead to in-fighting between the forces of the World Government, such as Lucci attacking Sentomaru for attempting to defend Vegapunk, and Stussy, also loyal to Vegapunk, betraying the other members of CP0. This is surprisingly similar to the uprisings Cross has triggered since the Alabasta arc. In other words, the World Government was always going to self-destruct in on itself; Cross had merely sped up the timetable.
  • In Chapter 1075 when the Seraphim start attacking everyone, Lucci proposes an Enemy Mine with Luffy; something that had occurred when Lucci came to Luffy's aid during the TB! version of the Paramount War. Unlike his TB! counterpart, however, canon Luffy is not keen on the prospect.
  • During the Post-Enies Lobby arc, Cross, with the help of Usopp and Hajrudin, was able to declare Dorry and Brogy's duel null and void, thus ending their cycle of fighting and allowing them to both leave Little Garden alive. In Chapter 1076, Dorry and Brogy's Duel to the Death has somehow been ended as they are seen alive on Elbaf.
  • As revealed after Wano, there is an organization of double agents inside the Navy who seek to reform it from within, SWORD. Once again, Cross only started things early when he helped create the Zodiac of the Divine.
  • The story has portrayed Sengoku and Garp as both having Conqueror's Haki, despite neither of them displaying that variation in canon prior. The manga eventually confirms that they do indeed possess it, with Vivre Card — One Piece Visual Dictionary (Card #0265, released in the second starter set) mentioning it in Sengoku's stats, while Chapter 1080 of the manga has Garp showing he has Conqueror's Haki when he uses it to unleash his "Galaxy Impact" attack upon the Blackbeard Pirates from above.
  • Slightly mixes with Harsher in Hindsight, but in Chapter 1081 it's revealed that after leaving the Marines following losing the position of Fleet Admiral to Sakazuki, Kuzan encountered Blackbeard and after having a party together, was invited to join Blackbeard's crew, with him becoming the mysterious tenth Titanic Captain. This is doubtful to occur in TB! as he felt remorseful for interfering in the duel on Banaro Island and allowing Ace to be captured by Blackbeard. Indeed, he felt unnerved over Blackbeard calling him a "friend".
    • On a more lighthearted note, Kuzan and Blackbeard crossed paths due to Kuzan using his powers to freeze most of Teach's crew, which is more or less the same way they meet up in TB! after Kuzan uses his powers to freeze over Banaro Island.
    • Conversely, in Marineford Misery, Akainu lost his arm to Dragon. In Chapter 1081, Vasco Shot asks Kuzan if Akainu loses an arm in their duel.
    • In Long Ring Long Island arc, Cross remarks that Kuzan was probably trained by Garp, with the lazy Admiral denying it, saying he was lucky to avoid that. In Chapter 1081, it's confirmed during their confrontation that Kuzan was indeed Garp's pupil. Even more amusing, Chapter 1087 reveals that Kuzan had asked Garp to train him. Meaning the training was so horrifying that Kuzan forced himself to remember his teacher as anyone other than Garp.
  • In the Denouement, Buggy informs his pirate crew and the former Impel Down inmates who chose to stay with him that he has no intention of finding the One Piece. In Chapter 1082, Buggy decided to go find the One Piece despite the protestation of Crocodile and Mihawk and made a Rousing Speech for all of Cross Guild to hear and be motivated.
  • In Chapter 1085, it's revealed that the Nefertari Family are actually carriers of the D initial. Keep in mind that major events occur in places that D. shows up, meaning that all the moments in the story that diverge from the manga, reaching all the way back to the Alabasta Arc when it first took its own course, can be attributed to the fact that the crew has two members who have the D. initial. In short, the fanfic has just received justification for going Off the Rails!
    • What makes this even funnier is that during his torture at Eneru's hands, Cross tells him point-blank that on the Blue Seas, there's a saying that 'D will bring a storm.' Vivi later reveals that the Logia Devil Fruit she keeps with her (that she eats in Strong World) is known as "The Storm of Alabasta" (to go with other Devil Fruit Alabastan names, like the Rage and the Desert). D will bring a storm indeed.
    • At the same time, it's revealed that Vivi's ancestor was responsible for the Poneglyphs being scattered throughout the world. This makes Vivi's decision to have Robin teach her how to read the Poneglyphs very fitting.
  • During the Post-Enies Lobby arc, Cross joked on the SBS that Garp used mountains for punching bags. Chapter 1087 reveals that he actually uses battleships!
  • In the aftermath of Strong World, it is shown that the World Government "recruited" (read: press-ganged) several scientists—Ratchet (mechanic), Dr. Hogback (surgeon), and Dr. Indigo (chemist)—and forced them to work for them creating bioweapons, which seems like the Government's attempt to create a second "MAD" with what they have at their disposal, since Queen (mechanic), Judge Vinsmoke (doctor) and Caesar Clown (chemist) are vastly superior to their scientific colleagues.
  • In this story, Luffy has a goal after becoming the king of the pirates: to alter the meaning of piracy so that adventures are the true meaning and looting is the false one. It becomes hilarious when canon Luffy reveals after Wano that he does have a mysterious objective that he would only achieve if he became the King of the Pirates.
  • At the beginning of the Water 7 arc, Cross warned Zoro that he'd be no match for Rob Lucci, saying Luffy was the only one strong enough to beat him, and even then, it was barely. In Chapter 1091 of the manga, when Lucci attempts to assassinate Vegapunk, Zoro retaliates and the two get into a clash, with the implications that Zoro might win.
    • Then, in Chapter 1111, it's revealed Zoro was holding back the whole time and actually outclasses Rob Lucci by a wide margin.
  • During the fic's Sabaody Revolution arc, when Rayleigh throws Kizaru to the Red Line, he crashes into the Gorosei's room, where he expresses his inability to move, to which they call a medic. It becomes hilarious when, in Chapter 1095, Kizaru is a star on the floor, and one of the Gorosei (Saint Saturn) gives him the go-ahead to rest.
  • In the manga, we talk about the God Valley incident, an event that involved the best in the world with several consequences for the world: it was where Kaido got his Devil Fruit, Garp got his title of Navy hero, Roger got his fame, and the Rocks Pirates disbanded, with those pirates forming the modern pirate culture. And all of it began when a character intervened by using several Transponder Snail frequencies to spread top-secret information. That is the exact same thing that Cross does with Soundbite to aggravate the World Government.
  • In Chapter 59, the fic does a Shout-Out to Ashes of the Past by saying "We draw a veil over the scenes of indescribable carnage". In a 2023 rewrite of the early chapters of Ashes of the Past, the line was changed to "It would be best not to contemplate the scenes of carnage".
  • During the Marineford Misery Arc, Dragon shows up, rips off Akainu’s hand, and then punches him across the battlefield, and remarks how satisfying it was to do so. Canon has revealed that Dragon is a former Marine, and has visited the ruins of Ohara. Suddenly, his actions have taken on a more personal sense, as he's seen the corruption and extremist actions within the World Government firsthand.
  • During the Supernova meeting at Skelter Bite, Eustass Kid insults all the crews who have children on them, even though Adelle Bascùd is part of his crew. If only he knew that the sole canon female Supernova as of Chapter 1098 was in fact only ten years old and used her Devil Fruit to appear older.
  • A person who brings joy and hope to the people, a liberator of slaves, and someone that the World Government wants to eradicate. Does that accurately describe the Sun God Nika, or the Voices of Anarchy?
  • In Chapter 1099, it's revealed that Kuma's global knowledge comes from traveling the world as he searched for a cure for Bonney's condition. While this does explain how he knew the locations he sent the Straw Hats to (even the TB! recruits), one would probably wonder where Davy Jones' Locker, where he sent Merry, fits into it. That can be answered by the fact that in the same chapter, Kuma had sunk the entire fleet of the deposed king of Sorbet Kingdom. In other words, Kuma likely knew about the underwater graveyard because he had sent ships to it..
  • During the Marineford Misery, Jormungandr (formerly Cipher Pol 9) successfully assimilated Cipher Pol 1-8 into the side of the New World Masons against the World Government. In Chapter 1100, Alpha, who bears a strong resemblance to Kalifa, is a member of Cipher Pol 8 who was assigned to monitor Jewelry Bonney of her Sapphire Scales condition she was treated with and she subtly threatens Kuma that "accidents" will happen to his surrogate daughter if he comes back to her. Assuming she's still alive, which isn't a certainty, their reunion as fellow members of Jormungandr would be interesting along with a potential source of new information for Cross to know about the full history between Kuma, Vegapunk, and Bonney.
  • A brilliant scientist and physician whose Devil Fruit allowed him to improve his intelligence and gain an evil side by experimenting with his brain. Are we talking about Tony Tony Chopper or Dr. Vegapunk?
  • It is known that in canon the Devil Fruits come from the dreams of mankind, and the World Government tried to eradicate the Nika fruit, which represents freedom with a strict control over the Government. This caused people to cling even more to a mythical savior of slaves, causing Nika to still exist. The fridge would indicate that so much control would also cause the masses' desires to be heard, creating the Noise-Noise Fruit. Therefore, the World Government is responsible for two of its worst enemies in This Bites! Nice Job Fixing It, Villain indeed.
  • In the post-Enies Lobby arc, Cross is shocked to see that Garp and his entire battalion dressed as Hawaiian Shirted Tourists while acting like they are on shore leave so they can visit Luffy. The Egghead Island arc has Jinbe wearing a Hawaiian shirt created from a clothing machine, which is likely to be treated as an In-Universe Call-Back.
    • Additionally, a flashback scene in the fifth episode of the live-action One Piece series does see Garp wear a Hawaiian shirt. The hat, sunglasses, coconut drink, and battalion are absent, however.
  • In the Denouement, it's revealed that Caribou became a member of the Blackbeard Pirates completely by accident. Chapter 1107 revealed that Caribou is actually as big a fan of Blackbeard as Bartolomeo is of Luffy, having been inspired to become a pirate by Blackbeard. Sadly for fanfic Caribou, he doesn't seem to enjoy being a Blackbeard Pirate as much as canon Caribou would have.
    • Another detail is that Blackbeard was the one Caribou intended to report his intel on the locations of Poseidon and Pluton. This means that not only will the Cross-Brain have to come up with a different identity for the benefactor Caribou mentioned to Blackbeard, but TB!Blackbeard continues to have reverse fortune to his canon counterpart as he'll miss out on the Ancient Weapons info unless something happens.
  • The Enies Lobby arc has the Straw Hats resuming contact with Dorry and Broggy, getting their help to convince Oimo and Kashi to join them in rescuing Robin and later Cross, Usopp, and Hajrudin convincing them that their Duel to the Death has come to an end, with the two giant captains vowing to be allies to the Straw Hats and joining the New World Masons. This becomes both hilarious and heartwarming with chapter 1106 where Dorry and Broggy come back after many years in and out of universe to rescue the Straw Hats from the Buster Call on Egghead Island. If the Cross-Brains ever adapt that scene, it will certainly be bigger with the Giant Warrior Pirates' new ship: a converted sea-faring Water 7.
  • In Chapter 1108, it's revealed that Vegapunk had pre-recorded a message airing the World Government's dirty laundry designed to broadcast to the entire world. Sounds like something a certain Voice of Anarchy would do, doesn't it? Even funnier is that it's Vegapunk's invention that Cross uses, giving the impression that Cross is doing exactly what Vegapunk intended it for.
  • The fic's version of the Enies Lobby arc has one of the Five Elders use Conqueror's Haki, despite no indication that any of the Elders had that power at the time. Chapter 1111 later confirmed that at least one of the Elders, Saint Topman Warcury, does indeed have Conqueror's Haki.
