SMG4 reacting to John Lenahan's color scheme sharing that of his Author Avatar.
  • "The Blooper Competition" has SMG4 compete against then-ultra popular Blooper creator MarioMario54321 in a video competition, and getting soundly trounced in it due to his comparatively shoddy work and low popularity. By the time of the latter half of the 2010s, SMG4 has become one of the frontrunners of Mario Bloopers while MarioMario has since become less prominent.
  • The episode "%99% beroken" has Mario go crazy and later get transported inside his head, discovering his mind is made of Teletubbies working with a control panel. Come 2015, when Inside Out has the same concept of colored beings at a control panel is responsible for someone's emotions too.
  • Super Mario Odyssey has the additional Mario 64 costume to make Mario look like his old polygonal self. While it was never coined by SMG4 himself, it does remind you of a lot of his videos. Especially sometimes when SMG4 uses a Mario 64 model in ragdoll physical form
  • Odyssey also brings us the skeleton Mario costume, which when combined with the sombrero found in Tostarena, makes Mario look a lot like Cuban Pete from "SMG3's Gauntlet of Gloom"!
  • In "Return to Freddy's spaghettria", Upon hearing the alarm to wind up the music box for the second time, Mario uses Wario to block the Puppet from rising. In Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator, this is how the Puppet is unable to save Henry's daughter, albeit instead of Wario, it's present boxes that block the Puppet's box.
  • SMG4's parody of The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny was called "The Ultimate Smash Bros.". A year later, the Super Smash Bros. title for Nintendo Switch was revealed to be Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
    • The Inklings from Splatoon were listed among the characters in the fight, and they were the first newcomers revealed for the game. Later on, Sephiroth, who was also listed in the song, was announced as the next Downloadable Content fighter, Steve was shown in the video and was announced after. Also, Sora was among the fighters mentioned...and was announced as the final character for Ultimate.
      • Speaking of Sephiroth, "World War Mario" has a scene where Sephiroth grabs and holds Mario, similar to his eventual Smash reveal trailer.
  • The ending of "The Smash 5 Trials" had a shot of the characters who'd passed the trials to get into the next installment of Super Smash Bros.. Most of them were obvious jokes (John Cena, Hank Hill, etc.), but three of them, King K. Rool, Ridley, and Banjo-Kazooie, actually did make the roster in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Mugman appeared too, and his brother Cuphead would receive a Mii Fighter costume in January of 2020.
  • "Mario gets a Nintendo Switch" had a scene where Mario and Bowser fought each other using Joy-Cons as lightsabers. The Nintendo Labo's Variety Kit that was released later on featured an Easter egg where you can turn your Joy-Cons into lightsabers.
  • In "Super BACKWARDS Bros", every character has swapped roles with another one. What role has Bowser replaced? Princess Peach, of all things, to the point of even calling himself "Princess Bowser". One year after the video was first uploaded, a certain comic about Bowser becoming a princess took the internet by surprise.
  • "M. K. Nature Channel" and "MARIOBUSTERS" had scenes where Piranha Plants suddenly uproot themselves and did dance numbers with their comically tiny legs. Come Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Piranha Plant becomes a playable fighter in a manner similar to the skit.
  • As SMG4 himself pointed out, several pieces of official Mario media prior to SMG4's first video have had characters with a similar physical appearance to SMG4's Author Avatar:
    • An episode of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! entitled "Plummers Academy"note  features a background character that resembles SMG4's avatar only with a white hat.
    • In an old British Mario-themed game show titled "The Super Mario Challenge", the host, John Lenahan, would sometimes dress up in a costume with a blue shirt, white overalls, a fake mustache, and a blue hat with an "M", a design nearly identical to SMG4's avatar.
    • In the 2001 Game Boy Advance game Super Mario Advance, a remake of Super Mario Bros. 2, by the Mario Bros. minigame, one of the four playable characters is a Mario Palette Swap with a blue hat and shirt, and white overalls. Another palette swap had Starman3's color scheme.
    • Stanley from Donkey Kong 3 in his Trophy from Super Smash Bros. Melee wears a blue shirt with white overalls. Now all he needs is the hat and mustache. (This resemblance would end up becoming important in the Lawsuit Arc, where SMG4 disguises himself as Stanley to get into the Nintendo-blocked castle grounds.)
    • In the first Mario Golf game, Mario serves as the referee when not playing as him. When playing as him, however, he gets replaced with a recolor of him with SMG4's same exact color scheme.
  • In "The Super Dudes", a parody of Avengers: Infinity War, Wario, representing Thanos, uses the power glove to make Mario and the crew start to disintegrate - by pressing a bunch of random buttons. The problem is solved by the buttons being pressed again, with Mario and the crew reappearing exactly where they started to disintegrate in other words, an astonishingly simple solution. Come Avengers: Endgame, although it takes the heroes a while to complete the plan, it really does end up being as simple as doing the same action that the user did to achieve the opposite effect.
  • In "Stupid Mario Maker", a red Bob-omb in a UFO is playing Super Mario Maker on a Nintendo Switch, which he accidentally flushes to the toilet and Wario accidentally finds. This episode became this after the announcement of Super Mario Maker 2 on the Nintendo Switch. Funnily enough, when the episode was first uploaded (December of 2016), the Nintendo Switch had not even been released.
  • "Untitled Mario Video" is a video based on Untitled Goose Game. Untitled Goose Game actually took inspiration from Super Mario 64, so SMG4 putting the two games together fits perfectly.
  • The frequent use of Egoraptor's voice clips in the series definitely falls into this after Egoraptor himself guest starred on Meta Runner.
  • SMG4 said in a Q&A that they would not be making a movie. Then came Meggy's Destiny: An SMG4 Movie, which would be the first of no less than five movies Luke and Kevin would go on to create.
    • Also, in Meggy's Destiny, Mario and Tari were playing Splatoon 3 before it became an actual thing.
  • In "A Day in the Life of Everyone", one of the evil plans on SMG3's chalkboard is to kick SMG4 in the balls. He would eventually do just that in "Mario's Spicy Day."
  • "Smexy Soccer" features a young Bob-omb named Bobby. Years later, Paper Mario: The Origami King, introduces a Bob-omb ally who is nicknamed Bobby.
  • Steve being a recurring character in this Mario-inspired series becomes this after his brief interaction with Mario in his reveal trailer for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
    • The episode "Mario vs. Steve", which revolved around Mario and Steve fighting each other, becomes all the more hilarious now that Mario and Steve can actually fight each other in Smash!
    • "SSENMODNAR DELUXE" takes this up to eleven with Steve actually in Smash.
  • On the 14th of March 2020, YouTuber Director Brian made a video, where Meggy was voiced. A few months later, in "Mario Gets Woke" Meggy was officially voiced. Moreover, it became a constant change after WOTFI 2020.
    • On the topic of voice acting, the whole "SM64 shorts: The Plumber Problem" episode could qualify, as in that episode, every character has voice acting, something that only happened in that video at the time. Who would have thought that in the future, voice acting would become very common in SMG4, with all the main cast members (except the Mario characters, ironically) speaking full sentences.
  • In "Meggy Learns Japanese", Meggy's Pre Ass Kicking One Liner is "I'm gonna break your Nico-Nico kneecaps!!!". Her voice actress at the time, Lizzie Freeman, would later go on to star in an incarnation of the Love Live! franchise, Love Live! Superstar!!, as Sumire Heanna.
  • There were several appearances where an oversized Cat Bell was used as school bells and end-of-year bells. Were they the Giga Bells?
  • FMnote  and Viclis teamed up to make "Goodbye Meggy", an April Fool's Day prank to SMG4's Discord server to fool fans into thinking Meggy will leave the series, with a thumbnail made by Famskull. Turns out in 2021, Meggy actually left the series (albeit temporarily) to be on Sunset Paradise. As Viclis pointed out, the thumbnails for the Discord prank and "My New Adventure" even look strikingly similar.
  • The instances of Mario doing Star Lord's infamous "Don't know how this works" gesture in If Mario was in... Baldi's Basics, Meggy's Destiny & "Doomsday but Mario's OK" became this when Chris Pratt (Star Lord's actor) is voicing him in the then-upcoming Mario movie.
  • In October 13, 2021, Youtuber Lapatata made Squid Game in different countries with Australia featuring SMG4 on its collage. 17 days later, we got "If Mario was in... SQUID GAME"
  • In "If Mario was in... Sonic Movie 2", Swag, a human, finally gets to kiss Sonic. Sounds familiar?
  • Melony's chonk story in "WHAT IF..?" concludes with the SMG4 gang taming Saiko's anger with The Power of Friendship. Eleven months later, that's essentially what happens to stop her rampage (and Kaizo's grip on her) in "Mario meets a demon and is shortly beheaded", courtesy of Tari and Luigi.
  • This was not the only time Lizzie Freeman voiced a female teenager who's good at gun-based combat & has gone through something that doesn't make them fully human. It may or may not help when by the time the anime ends, both characters almost had an experience of death by a while.
  • FranciscoJRG10 wrote an "If Mario was In Splatoon 3" fanfic about a year before SMG4 made the official video. The fanfic and video ended up sharing at least one thing in common, and that's Meggy turning back into an Inkling.
  • MelanaDespair's Twitter post of Mario and Bob fishing predicted "If Mario Went Fishing" about four months later.
  • As explained by No Context SMG4 in this Twitter post, we've seen Toad in Cool Shades and motor vehicles a few times throughout this series, only for him to adopt the look for real in The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
    • Mario having to stop a missile from destroying Peach's Castle and the kingdom in "Mario Goes To T-Mobile To Upgrade His Data Plan"? Also in the movie! Just replace the missile with the more Mario-themed Banzai Bill.
    • While not quite to the same extent, Bowser having an extended jawline is similar to his SMG4 incarnation. Look at the similarities and see for yourself.
  • ClawdeEverproud posted a fan comic showing Meggy going to McDonalds, then would go there in an actual SMG4 video four years later in "A Happy Little Road Trip".
  • theawesomario Revamped made a video of Mario crossing over with Pizza Tower a month before the official one.
  • Before Meggy got her own place to escape Inkopolis' racial discrimination against humans (implicitly) after Meggy's Destiny, MrTheWizard made a fan video series in 2019 that featured a very similar premise, same motive and all.
  • MarioBrosFan1000 did a machinima about Mario going through a midlife crisis two years before "Mario Is Fine", an SMG4 video with a very similar premise.
  • This fan image by Polboi of Meggy depicts her as a Waddling Head before Leggy became a thing.
  • In "The Very Safe & Legal SMG4 Show", SMG4 threatens to reveal SMG3's search history. This becomes the basic premise of "SMG3's Browser HIstory" later that year.
  • At one point in the fanfic "A Leg to Stand On", a story about Meggy losing her legs, she is called "Leggy". The story was released long before "Leggy" became a meme.
  • The episode "SMG4 And SMG3 Are Forced To Hold Hands" ends with Mario being sent to a violent Inspector Gadget (who plans to shove a brown brick up to his ass) as a punishment for making the titular character's hands stuck throughout the episode. This seems to be ridiculous for Spy X Family fans, whereas by the time Season 2 premieres by the same time the SMG4 episode's released, it starts with one of the titular characters, Yor Forger, suffered getting shot in the ass during one of her missions.
  • During The Floor Is Lava, Fishy Boopkins gets knocked into lava which grants him fire powers. Come Super Mario Bros. Wonder and we get a variant of spikes known aptly as Fire Spikes. Keep in mind that Boopkins was still a Spike during this period.
  • On July 8th, 2023, SMG4 would release his 5th movie Western Spaghetti, and one of the major plot twists is that the titular town of Western Spaghetti is actually a simulation. Come February 22nd, 2024, and Splatoon 3 would release their "Side Order" DLC, which also happened to take place inside a simulated world.
  • Toad900 made a picture depicting Meggy babysitting Karen's kids... and going insane in the process. Then we've got an SMG4 short with a very similar idea.
  • A X user named Shaymix oddly predicted one of Mr. Puzzles' abilities of hiding & showing his body from the bottom of his head a full year before the "PUZZLEVISION" trailer premiered.
    WHY'D I KEEP PREDICTING SHIT?!
  • A YouTuber named Opossol made a fan animation featuring Mr. Puzzles as the Big Bad entitled "Creative Control". Not only would this be the official title of his Villain Song in the "PUZZLEVISION" movie, but both projects feature Mass Hypnosis as his endgame, complete with static for Mind-Control Eyes.
