Heartwarming / Waiting in the Summer

  • In episode 9, Kanna lets Mio sleep over at her house and they have an important conversation, in which Mio tells Kanna not to feel guilty about her conflicted feelings towards Kaito and Ichika's relationship. During the whole thing they are lying together in Kanna's bed under separate sheets but almost right next to each other, and the fact that Mio is in the nude doesn't bother Kanna at all because she knows that she needs to feel comfortable in order to fall asleep. It's such a perfect moment of trust and acceptance between two girls who consider each other precious friends.
  • Also in episode nine, we have Ichika telling Kaito that the kiss they just shared was actually the 4th for her. Then she proceeds to enumerate the first 3 (in the dam accident, when Kai passed out at his house and when he dived to save her from the fall in episode 8). And when Kai, understandably surprised, mutters "How unromantic...", she clasps his face in her hands and softly says "This is the fifth". Guess what happens then.
  • The finale (Episode 12) has everything looking like Ichika will never be able to return to earth, and Kaito forced to live on with her in his heart until you get to the very final scene of the cast's high school, where a new batch of students are discussing "that movie our senpais left behind", leaving us to remember the movie that Remon left behind for the cast after she "transfers" to another "school" - she's really an MIB agent. That is, until the last second, where the playing film is a new one, and Ichika has returned to earth, explaining that her ship has broken again. The series ends with Ichika smiling at the camera. And in case the implication is missed, she's wearing the Bolivian souvenir outfit that Nanami bought.
  • Special mention goes to the Men In Black showing up to defend Kai and Ichiko as they race to the lake. Men in Black types are generally portrayed as emotionless and manipulative, but here they're in full force to defend a pair of lovers from separation. It's not even like the fate of the world is at stake; they just really want this couple to be together. So it's a heartwarming action scene!
