Heartwarming / The Boat That Rocked

Go To

Unsurprisingly, considering this is a Richard Curtis film, there are many of these.

  • A particular one is the scene after Carl is rejected by Marianne in favour of Dave and Harold and John silently approach him with tea and biscuits (which they then proceed to eat themselves). However, eating the biscuits themselves was a motivating measure, as Carl was too depressed to initiate the constitution-restoring powers of tea and biscuits himself. When he joins in, that was the Heartwarming Moments.
    • That whole scene was improvised, the cast being told just to pretend they were cheering an actual friend up.
  • A minor one, but during the stag party, for how mean they can be to Angus and Kevin, both are included for the party, and even though John is more bookish and not as "cool" as the others, he's still brought along to have a good time. For how different a lot of the crew is, they really do care about each other and want each other to feel included.
  • Near the end of the stag night scene in the North American cut, after everyone has gotten completely sloshed, John and Mark can be seen snuggled up together half asleep sharing a blanket on the floor.
  • The bit when Carl rescues Bob while "Father and Son" by Cat Stevens is playing is possibly the greatest use of a Cat Stevens song in a film ever. Also appropriate, considering Bob is Carl's father.
  • Also, the ending, when dozens of ships filled with fans turn up to rescue the DJs and crew.
    • Simon gets a Last-Minute Hookup Rescue Romance from one of his fans.
    • Mark and Felicity getting rescued by Marianne and Margaret, who yell encouragements out to them from the boat.
Margaret: Swim to me, sweetheart, you're doing really well!
  • The Count's speech from a deleted scene about what most would call the definitive band of the Sixties.
"This, my friends is Abbey Road. Somewhere in there, John, Paul, George and Ringo are making music. And you know what, I love American rock and roll, but I have enough brains in my head to know that we’re standing within 50 yards of four of the greatest geniuses of our time. And no matter how famous we get on Rock Radio, what we really are is fans. Fans with attitude, fans with large, attractive cocks, but fans nonetheless. And gentlemen, I'd consider it an honour if you’d join me on this historic night, in a salute to the fabulous four. The glories of our age, the bringers of joy. To our and future generations. For there will always be poverty and pain and war and injustice in this world, but there will, thank the Lord, also always be The Beatles."
  • The sign reading “WE HEARD YOU” as the gang swim towards the rescue boats. You could tear up just thinking about it.
  • After it's revealed that Gavin had sex with Simon's wife who had only married Simon to get close to Gavin in the first place, The Count challenges him to a game of chicken to force him to apologize. In the end, both men get seriously injured and the match ends in a draw since neither backed down. However, Gavin apologizes on the air to Simon anyway of his own accord.
