Heartwarming / The Beano

Go To

  • In a Christmas comic, Minnie the Minx, among other things, decided to entertain kids at a hospital.
  • Another Christmas comic had Dennis planning a Christmas party, only for all of his party guests to end up in hospital by sheer coincidence. He then decides to have the party there instead.
  • A comic panel from c. 2000 showed that many of the stars of comic strips that had been discontinued were actually friends living in a retirement home.
  • One strip had a Beano-hater show up who despised the comic for being unrealistic such as saying that dogs like Gnasher should bark and Bea should be playing with dolls. This very initially pleases Walter, until the hater says that he hates boys like him for prancing around and punts a football straight into him stating that he should be playing with that instead. Dennis shows up and kicks the hater for doing that and reassures Walter with this line:
Dennis: If he doesn't like anyone in the Beano, then no one in the Beano has to like him.
  • Ivy the Terrible's first strip sees her going to Dennis' house looking to fight him. He waits until it's her bedtime to come out, right when she's fallen asleep. It ends with Dennis carrying her home and, in a rather Out-of-Character Moment, remarking how cute she is when she's asleep. Even before Bea arrived, Dennis had a Big Brother Instinct.
  • In the feature length Bash Street Kids comic Finders Keepers, Smiffy finds a treasure map. And proceeds to make photocopies of it for his friends. He is dumb, but he is considerate.
    Danny: Smiffy! You idiot!
Smiffy: But I thought it would be nice if everyone had a copy.
Toots: What, every-one in the country?!
Plug: Oh, leave him alone! As long as we collect up these copies, there's no harm done, eh?
    A grumbling Danny backs down
  • In this Calamity James strip, our luckless hero scores a date with Minnie by getting tickets to a concert. Instead of the punk band she actually wanted to see, he instead got tickets to a classical music concert. Still, it's one of the few strips that gives him a happy ending.
    • When James goes out in a top hat and tails, his mother, who in most strips is quite awful to him, cries over how grown-up he looks.
  • Shortly after Bea arrived, Dennis and Gnasher took her to meet the rest of the comic's cast. They were all taken to her. Billy Whizz took her on a tour of Beanotown (albeit so fast her hair blew in her face), Ivy made a meal, Roger helped her fend off annoying old ladies and when the Bash Street Teacher gave her homework as a gift, the Kids angrily threw stuff at him.
    • When they take her to meet Gnipper, they hit it off immediately by engaging in the pup's favourite activities - digging and chasing postmen.
    • When they arrive in Crazy for Daisy, Ernest Valentine proves to be a hit with Bea by entertaining her. So much when Daisy beats him up, Bea angrily beats her up.
  • Minnie entertains Bea with a magic show.
  • When Minnie the Minx's regular artist Jim Petrie retired in 2001 after forty years and two thousand strips, he got a nice farewell.
  • In 2013, Minnie got her first ever front cover to celebrate her fiftieth birthday.
  • In a Dennis the Menace strip in the 1999 annual, a character who believed Gnasher was a public menace tried to get rid of him by attaching helium balloons to his kennel in the middle of the night, then informed Dennis' dad of what he'd done, expecting him to be pleased. Despite everything Gnasher put him through, Dennis' dad was distraught at what had happened and the prospect of having to explain it to his son.
    • Near the end of the story, after Dennis and Gnasher have an adventure at the local safari park, they're found by Slipper, who hugs them and expresses relief that they're safe, before revealing that everyone's been worried about them. As if that wasn't enough, Dennis and Gnasher return to a street party being thrown for them, and everyone is happy to see them.
  • At the end of the Billy Whizz VS Billie Whizz arc in the Beano, Billy is almost due to leave Beanotown in shame, but Billie, who takes a Heel–Face Turn upon realizing she didn't win the race after all, and Cuthbert, who had the proof needed, managed to stop him in time. Once he gets off the train, Billy has no hard feelings for Billie despite what happened, showing she still has a place of her own in Beanotown.
    • This becomes even sweeter when she appears in some other Billy Whizz comics from then on.
  • A Christmas Biffo strip had the bear invite the Bash Street kids over for a Christmas dumpling, including Cuthbert, who usually doesn't hang out with the others. And the school cat.
