Heartwarming / The Afterparty

Per wiki policy, Spoilers Off applies here and all spoilers are unmarked. You Have Been Warned.

Season One

  • You have to give Brett some credit. While he is technically stalking his ex-wife and using their daughter to emotionally manipulate her into forgetting their divorce, he does love his little girl and is more than happy to go to the afterparty he wasn’t invited to get her stuffed koala back.
    • Aniq also displays sympathy towards Brett, feeling bad at how he misinterpreted their rivalry and how Brett was only looking out for his daughter.
    • He also agrees to the divorce after realizing that he is at fault, having a genuine moment of amiable reconciliation with Zoe.
  • After his testimony, Yasper sincerely vouches for Aniq, saying he couldn’t possibly be the murderer. Even the revelation that Yasper is the murderer doesn't undermine the moment, since he genuinely did not see Aniq becoming the prime suspect and tried his best to protect his friend and throw the blame elsewhere.
  • Chelsea similarly vouches for Aniq to both Danner and Zoe. She even admits to being indirectly responsible for his inebriation.
    • During the same testimony, Chelsea reconciles with Zoe over her affair with Brett.
  • After Walt’s testimony, Jennifer 1 is quick to insist that Aniq is the guilty party. Yasper, Chelsea, and Zoe immediately jump to his defense again.
  • With the "Rashomon"-Style, It's All About Me premise of the show, it's easy to assume that Yasper acting as the wacky Romantic Wingman in Aniq's rom-com is wildly exaggerated, and in reality, Yasper didn't care what Aniq was up to. Then Yasper tells his version of events and it turns out that no, actually, Aniq's memory was pretty accurate—Yasper really is that supportive of his friends.
    • The same thing occurs with Yasper inspiring Chelsea to seize control of her own life. His version of the conversation is so self-aggrandizing and absurd that it seems like there's no way it could be real, only for Chelsea's episode to feature a less comedic but equally meaningful version of the same conversation.
  • Zoe is horrified when Jenn 2 reveals that she was the one who cyberbullied Chelsea. It's especially notable that this is before she has a heart-to-heart with Chelsea, meaning Zoe defended her out of the goodness of her heart.
  • When Aniq delivers information that exonerates Brett, he finally admits to eavesdropping on everyone’s flashbacks, he admits that they aren’t the shallow people he once thought they were and apologizes sincerely. Brett responds by agreeing to act as a character witness at his trial.
  • After Yasper is ousted as the killer, he's genuinely apologetic towards Aniq for making him suspect number one. Sure, he murdered Xavier, but he seriously seemed distraught at the idea of his friend getting charged for a crime he in fact committed.
  • Over the course of the series, Danner and Aniq's friendship grows to become a huge Heartwarming moment in the series. Not only does Danner look out for Aniq, genuinely investigating the case rather than slapping the cuffs on him as the obvious suspect, but she also has him help properly throughout the night. After he finally offers the final input that helps them both out the killer together, Danner offers Aniq her card and a job at the police department if he ever feels up to it. Aniq, in turn, returns the gesture if she needs help on a case, though his card is a mess from him having been soaked in beer during the night.
  • There's also why Danner did it. She knew first hand that Germain would just go after Aniq simply because he was the obvious suspect and that's his style in order to keep up his "perfect record." Danner was willing to risk her own career rather than let an innocent man go to jail just so some arrogant jerk cop could look better for his superior.
  • As they finally leave the house, Chelsea reassures Walt that after tonight, nobody is going to forget his name. This is followed by everyone uttering his name in acknowledgment.
  • Brett is shown perfectly content with caring for Maggie as a single father and even expresses some slight approval towards Zoe moving on with Aniq.
  • The first season ends with Zoe and Aniq finally having a Big Damn Kiss, finally together after so many years apart.

Season Two

  • Edgar and Aniq seem to hit it off, bonding over their quirks to the point where Edgar trusts Aniq to hold Roxana, his lizard.
  • Feng and Vivian aren't absolute asses to Aniq for no reason, instead they want to see him care for Zoe rather than be a suck-up to them like Brett was.
  • While it definitely has its rocky moments, Grace and Edgar's relationship is filled with heartwarming moments.
    • Edgar immediately jumps to Grace's defense when his mother, Isabel, begins bullying her.
    • He shares a private dance with her on a porch outside, which is such a sweet moment that Grace thinks back to it during their wedding dance.
  • Travis is apparently completely over Grace and only came to stop the wedding because he thought she would be the victim of Edgar's supposed fraudulent business activities.
