Heartwarming / Remnant Inferis: DOOM

Go To

Despite things being even more bloody and miserable for the heroes, there's still plenty of heartwarming moments to be found in Remnant Inferis: DOOM.

Warning! In accordance with Wiki policy, spoilers for moments pages are unmarked.

  • The opening shows that for all the Slayer's brutality and fury, he has a heart and does care for others. When he saw the humans the White Fang slaughtered, his face softened at the sight, before turning to pure rage at their killers.
  • The Doom Slayer and Ruby's growing friendship throughout their struggles together. As hard as he tries not to get attached, the Slayer finds himself growing to care for her and her team, even if it's in his own gruff way.
    • When he sees the rose petals she creates, he reflects that roses are extinct in his home world and he never thought he would see them again.
    • Case-and-point: During Hell's first invasion of Beacon and in spite of his temporary malfunctioning suit, he throws himself in between Ruby and Deag Grav, shielding her from a point blank blast of Hell energy.
    • After suffering from horrible nightmares, Ruby falls asleep on the Slayer's shoulder, and he lets her. It really shows how much trust they have in one another.
  • The Slayer shielding Coco after she fell from a Bullhead. Even with her aura fully charged, the fall would’ve still broken her spine, which shows that he certainly cares about the people he's fighting alongside.
  • The Slayer barely knew Fox, but after Deag killed him he even roared in rage, for having failed to save another innocent. Even Coco, Fox's old friend and partner, said that the Slayer took Fox's death even worse than the rest.
  • The Slayer doesn't kill Trifa after beating the rest of the White Fang and Salem's Faction, and instead leaves her to be arrested just because he doesn't want to slaughter someone in front of Ruby (he even asked himself why he would care about what Ruby would think).
  • The Slayer may have his problems with Atlas, but while he destroys Atlas robots and hurts Atlas soldiers from time to time, he never tries to kill any of them, even after they tried to arrest him after he saved Vale.
    • Speaking of which, while he was on brink of collapse because of his infection, he still allowed Atlas to arrest him without a fight because he doesn't want anyone to get hurt because of him.
  • In Chapter 19, the Slayer was planning to just kill all the enemies still around (the cultists, Cinder, Salem), stop the SDC from investigating Argenta technology, and then go back to Mars. But he hesitated and added a new objective: Stop causing people to grow emotionally attached to oneself. It's not done out of selfishness, but because he genuinely doesn't want anyone to get hurt.
  • Cinder of all people gets one when she saves her associates and carries them to safety when they escape. It goes to show that even someone as selfish and egotistical as Cinder can care for others, however minor it may be.
  • VEGA is an AI, but he truly cares about human lives. He even sounded preoccupied trying to calm the Slayer's rage in the conference with the Council.
    • He even shows great remorse about his failure to save the humans on Mars, saying that he had many regrets and he would do anything to get Team RWBY back home.
    • He reminds the Slayer that if he dies against the Marauder, it would be impossible to use the UAC's teleportation system to get Team RWBY out of Hell.
    • This kindness goes both ways for his human allies, who clearly value him as a reliable ally; both Ruby and Jaune are audibly happy whenever they hear from him following dangerous situations, and has even won over Peter Port by helping him organize his schedules. Heck, even the Slayer doesn't hesitate to run to his rescue when the SDC attempted to reprogram him. It's likely that VEGA is the closest person the Slayer can call a friend.
  • While in the elevator to the conference room, Velvet thought that the Slayer wasn't talking with her because she's a Faunus, but, both the Slayer and VEGA have no problem about her being a Faunus:
The Slayer: What's being beastkin got to do with it? (…) You're people too, ain't you?
VEGA: Judgement based on a person's appearance is counterproductive and ultimately meaningless.
  • The Broken-Horned Baron actually mourns its then recently killed bond sibling and becomes enraged at the Slayer and Team RWBY. It's a small moment, but it does show that even demons are capable of developing some modicum of attachment and even care for those they surround themselves with.
  • Shortly after waking up in Chapter 24, Ruby very nearly goes into a Heroic BSoD at having to continue fighting in Hell. What stops her? The Slayer covering her in Weiss' coat to hide her Clothing Damage.
  • Taiyang promising to bring his daughters home shows how much he cares for them. When Qrow tells him that bringing them home won't keep them safe forever, Tai makes it clear that he knows that, but he wants to make sure that he's there for them.
  • Dr. Catrice helping Team RWBY not just because of her doctoral oaths, but because she's grateful to the Slayer for what he did for her in the past and is now returning the favor.
  • After learning that VEGA can't shut down the Slipgate, Ruby declares that she'll try to save as many people as she can. Even with all the Sanity Slippage she's gone through, there's still traces of the young girl who just wants to help people somewhere in there.
  • Ruby and Yang immediately embracing their father when they first reunite in Chapter 29.
  • The Slayer and VEGA pointing out to Blake that despite her fears, she's been constantly putting herself between the innocent and those who try to harm them, showing that no matter how much she thinks otherwise, she's far braver than she gives herself credit for.
  • Yang telling the Slayer that they're gonna stick with him all the way to the end. She tells him that it doesn't matter how much of an asshole he tries to be or how he lords over the fact that none of them can stop him from going on a warpath. The Slayer ultimately accepts that he does indeed care about them more than he wants to admit. He even tries to give Yang his family ring to hold onto so he'll have reason to return to them. Well, he would have if he didn't lose it.
  • When Ruby starts having a breakdown again over the things she did and starts calling herself a terrible person like the Slayer is, her father comforts her and assures her that she's not a terrible person in the slightest, and despite his hatred for the Slayer, he's certain that William isn't really a bad guy either.
  • Qrow managing to bond with the Slayer throughout their journey in Epsilon is pretty touching, considering that previously, he was nothing but scornful towards him.
  • Before separating from Yang and the others, the Slayer hands her both his family ring and a parchment that depicts his family. Given that he previously tried to give it to her so that he could get it back from her later, this is basically his way of saying that he will return to Team RWBY someday.
  • Ruby sews the Slayer's symbol on her clothes, saying people fear it now, but she wants to turn it into a symbol of hope.
