Heartwarming / Precious

  • Several times during the film, Precious looks in a mirror and sees who she aspires to be (in a literal manner; someone else is shown in the mirror every time, usually a Caucasian girl with long, blond hair). In a narration near the end, while we see Precious looking in a mirror again, Precious says that Ms. Rain told her that she is beautiful as she is. Precious then says "As crazy as it sounds...I think she's right." We then see what she sees in the mirror...herself.
  • The friendship that Precious develops with her classmates. At first, she shows no interest in associating with them, but over time they all become Vitriolic Best Buds with each other, still picking on one another but also showing that they do like each other. By the end, they're all True Companions who essentially see each other as a family and are all supportive of Precious after she gives birth to Abdul.
    • A small but memorable moment of such occurs when the class in on a field trip to the museum and her and Rita are looking at an exhibit when Jo Ann playfully startles them from behind and Rita grabs her hand in response. Precious is surprised and touched by her reaction, saying "Ain't nobody ever grabbed my hand like that before."
  • After learning about Precious and Abdul being homeless, Ms. Rain tries her hardest to search for a place for them to live. While she is able to eventually get her into a halfway house, she takes them into her home for Christmas, fed them, gave them Christmas gifts and genuinely enjoyed their company. Also, Precious learns that she's in a loving, committed relationship with her partner, Katherine, and concludes her mother's previous views on gay people were wrong.
