Heartwarming / One: Kagayaku Kisetsu e

Go To

  • Mizuka's dogged loyalty to Kohei despite him being a bit of a jerk to her. Especially in her route when Kohei is convinced everybody has finally forgotten about him, even Mizuka, though she'd remembered him longer than most. He's walking down the street, depressed, and sees Mizuka on the other side of the street. Since neither acknowledges the other, he carries on, resigned to being forgotten. As he goes to cross the street, she crosses at the same crossing. Even as they meet, they don't say anything... instead, Mizuka grabs Kohei and hugs him from behind as he passes her, right in the middle of the street.
  • Rumi's route:
    • Rumi's backstory is one of the few (if not the only) one that's not outright depressing: Having grown up practicing kendo, she took a Game-Breaking Injury during her second year of middle school and had to stop participating. However, she stayed on the team as a coach and advisor and helped them reach new heights. After her success and preparing to enter high school, the teacher overseeing the club congratulates her on her success and tells her, "Your job here is done. It's time for you to grow your hair out and start living like a girl should." The advice inspires her and she enters high school with her head held high.
    • Kohei gets a couple of moments when defending Rumi's reputation from Alpha Bitch Maki Hirose's actions. He's rightfully pissed upon seeing a slanderous message about Rumi written on the chalkboard and takes the fall when Rumi is about to lose her temper after her attempts at befriending Maki are thrown back in her face.
    • The climax. Wanting to make up for his gaffe at Christmas, Kohei sends her a nice dress and invites her to go dancing after they meet up at the park. Rumi wears the dress and waits for him at the park every day for the entire year between his disappearance and return.
  • Misaki's Route:
    • Although Misaki's mischievous attitude betrays her initial appearance of being a demure lady, her genuine warmth is very infectious both to Kohei and the player. Seeing moments when she's feeling uplifted feel like little rewards in and of themselves.
    • Even though Kohei fails to secure anything remotely Christmassy for their private Christmas party at the school due to her being afraid of the downtown area, Misaki is still appreciative of the efforts he went through. Her, "It's the thought that counts," response to his apology for feeling like he broke his promise leads to his Love Epiphany for her route.
    • The route as a whole is one where it really feels like the two start off as friends who are able to legitimately joke around with and tease each other while steadily growing closer together. Compared with how Kohei treats Mizuka, he never takes Misaki for granted.
    • Although Kohei fully expected to disappear on the day of Misaki's graduation, he holds on for one more day to finally have a proper date with Misaki and help her overcome her fear of anywhere that isn't her house or the school. And their interactions are simply adorable.
  • Akane’s Route:
    • Despite being an Emotionless Girl, it’s easy to see how touched Akane is when Kohei reveals he remembers her first name despite only hearing it once before. It leads to both of them moving up to a First-Name Basis with each other.
    • Stoic Akane meeting cheerful Mio during finals week. Mio is enraptured by Akane’s beautiful hair and Akane can’t resist Mio’s cuteness. Kohei even calls it an In-Universe heartwarming moment.
    • Kohei asks Akane out on a date and she turns him down. Choosing to wait at the park, however, results in her rushing over to take him an umbrella after it begins raining. This leads to their shared Love Epiphany and first kiss.
    • Despite Akane telling Kohei she intends to forget about him, he still finds her back at the vacant lot where she strikes up a conversation with the "stranger" and pours out her full feelings before giving Kohei the birthday present she had bought for him.
  • It's difficult to find a part of Mio's that isn't:
    • In general, she's mute, so she has to learn to express herself by face and body language. So if you're playing her route and she and Kohei become romantically involved, she chooses to express affection by hugging. A lot. How many boyfriends in the world get as many hugs as Kohei does on Mio's route? And the epilogue even concludes with Mio hugging Kohei's back... and continuing the hug for the entire length of time that Kohei goes into a long internal monologue about how troublesome Mio is that she keeps getting lost. Just because Kohei's "back is warm." And when it isn't a hug, Mio tends to hang on to Kohei's sleeve. It's like she thinks Kohei enriches her life to such an extent that Kohei's entire physical presence is a source of goodness for her. It's not really a dramatic moment of heartwarming, but this kind of innocence doesn't show up often in fictional depictions of romance, which focus overmuch on kissing for example.
    • It's later revealed that Mio is also a childhood friend (and that Kohei gave her something precious as a child), you get the warm fuzzy feelings of a long awaited reunion... without the Jerkass behavior that Kohei displays on Mizuka's route.
    • Kohei taking Mio back into the school well after nightfall to retrieve what is reveled to be the sketchbook he loaned her as a child, comforts her when he accidentally scares her by knocking a fire extinguisher over, and ends up staying in the classroom all night with her when she's too scared to leave.
    • Kohei himself gets some of his best personal development in Mio's route as it's one of the few where he becomes truly self-motivated by getting involved with the Theater Club and helping Mio prepare for her role. As a result, he gets into the habit of getting up on time (something that completely shocks both Mizuka and Yukiko) and doesn't shirk any of his duties; he even helps out with the final setup after the members of the club forget him and refuses to disappear until after seeing Mio's performance.
  • Kohei's So Proud of You moments towards Mayu near the end of her route when she proves how much she's grown by acting independently and helping find the owner of a lost puppy in the middle of a rain storm, even after getting separated from Kohei.
