Heartwarming / On the Run

Go To

  • Despite driving each other nuts, Aiden and Meg are willing to do anything in the world for each other and protect each other countless times, up to and including each being willing to sacrifice themselves to save the other from Hairless Frank in the climax of "On the Run".
  • Aiden makes sure to save the animals at the prison farm once the barn is set on fire.
  • Right before Meg is nearly killed by the fire and ends up escaping with her brother, there's an oddly cute moment when she observes the other girls in her juvie dorm (who include drug dealers, car thieves, and gang members) all sitting around and painting each other's toenails like ordinary teenagers.
  • Aiden and Meg are blown away by someone helping them for the first time in months when a young gas station worker gives them a lift and food even while knowing they are escapees from an oppressive juvenile hall facility. He spent a year there himself when he was younger and has a sense of sympathy for its more recent inmates.
  • When Aiden ends up being locked up with a group of high school pranksters in On the Run: The Search, they recognize him, show him a certain amount of hero worship, and cover for him after he escapes.
  • The Neighborhood-Friendly Gangsters International Crew going gaga over the instant pancakes Meg makes for them, while she is surprised and pleased with the enthusiastic reaction to her cooking.
  • Aiden and the curmudgeonly farmer he is working for while laying low in the sixth book gradually develop a sense of mutual liking.
  • The entire Falconer family being out of jail, cleared of all charges, and reunited at the conclusion of "On the Run".
  • Several scenes with Meg and "Mickey" in The Search (from "Kidnapped").
    • When Meg is thrown down into the basement in the second book, "Mickey" is there to tend to her injuries, unlike his comrades.
    • "Mickey" giving her a birthday cupcake. Just the idea that he went out of his way to cheer her up and provide her with a simple sweet is very endearing.
  • Emmanuel Harris works tirelessly to find Meg and keep Aiden safe throughout the "Kidnapped" trilogy, even after it's no longer officially his case. It culminates in him jumping between the siblings and an angry bear to protect them in The Rescue.
    • Related to the above, when John Falconer asks how he and his wife can repay Agent Harris for saving their children, Harris only asks for them to forgive him. John, seeing how much this means to Harris, agrees, and the two exchange a handshake.
