Heartwarming / Nymeria's War

Book 1: The Sun and the Spear

Chapter 1: The Sparks of War

  • Just about every scene between Nymeria and Mors is heartwarming, especially as the princess, who is usually forced to remain distant from others due to her duties, has actually found someone to share her life with. A Perfectly Arranged Marriage indeed.
  • As brief as it is, there is a quick scene between Gwendis and Naemon in the early parts of the chapter, where the closeness of the siblings is established, with Gwendis calling him her only true friend.
  • Learning more about the relationship between Nealia and Jamison paints the previously jerkish prince in a completely new light. His Tough Love towards his half-sister is revealed to have shaped her into the fierce woman she has grown up to and she looks at him very favourably.
  • Garrison Fowler suddenly grows soft in the presence of his daughter Isabella. This establishes him as a man who loves his family more than anything else. The way he and Isabella interact shows a level of trust and love no other noble family in the story has shown up until then.

Chapter 2: Kings and Snakes

  • The early chapter holds a seriously heartwarming moment between Gwendis and her father. The previously dark and aloof Benedict is shown to become much softer and affectionate to his daughter, clearly regretting the years they lost, as he tries his best to make up for his shortcomings as a father. Even better is that it somewhat works, with Gwendis accepting his apology and display of affection. On her behalf, Benedict even agrees to patch up his relaitonship with Naemon.
  • Nymeria gets a massive Pet the Dog moment in the way she treats the late Yandry of Olivegrove, who died for her war. She not only genuinely mourns him, she arranges for a respectful funeral and gives his lands not to his son, but to his older daughter, firmly establishing equal primogeniture in the lands she has conquered.
  • Similar to the moment between Garrison and Isabella, there is one between Dalia and Desirea, establishing their loving mother-daughter relationship. Though both are servants of R'hllor and therefore of questionable morality, the bond they have is as strong as it is heartwarming.
  • Emmett Allyrion is just about the only person in Godsgrace to treat Emerson with respect. Even better, he is treated with respect in return, despite his odd behavior making him a bit of an outcast among his own family. Both are outcasts due to their respective situations, but this only makes their bond stronger.
  • There is something truly uplifting about the first small victory Missy manages: Reclaiming her identity as Kortney Caron. After being forced to remember, she does succeed at accepting her old self back again, slightly breaking through the madness she had been trapped in until then.
  • Surprisingly enough Lucifer Dryland manages to get one when he finally meets his daughter Dalia after many years of absence. As it turns out, he does have one soft spot in his life, namely for his own flesh and blood. This is made even stronger once you remember that he has been unable to father other children beside her, making it likely for him to look at the only heir he is ever going to have. And not even once does he hold Dalia's gender or status as a bastard against her.
  • Though it does come with plenty of bad things from the Blackmont side of the deal, the breaking of the marriage pact has one heartwarming part for Isabella, who is now potentially free to marry the love of her life again, something Garrison even agrees to think about.

Chapter 3: Children of the Sun

  • Wylie consoling Isabella in the aftermath of Ferris' death.
  • Kourtney's return to home crosses this with Heartbreaking, after all the torture uncertainty and the sacrifices of Myke and Joran to bring her home. Her reunion with her father is specially touching.
  • Naelia choosing to stay with the Yu sisters despite knowing Lien's days as a sellsword are practically finished.
  • Tomas staying behind at Ghost Hill and telling his nephews to be honorable before they depart to Sandship, reminding us that while he's sometimes a Jerkass, he truly cares about his family.
  • The wedding between Isabella and Jamison is nothing but this. From how Jamison crowns his bride as Queen of Love and Beauty, to The Big Damn Kiss.

Epilogue: Mother's Mercy

  • The birth of Mors and Nymeria's first child, Sarella. There's also how Nymeria tells her husband the legend behind the name.

Interlude: The Kings of Dorne

  • Vorian's POV shows us how much he cares about his kingdom and all his children, including Naelia, wondering were she is right now.
    • Jamison not only is still Happily Married with Isabella, but now they're the proud parents of twins Samwell and Ferris Dayne.
  • Garrison's POV is this and Heartbreaking. Despite losing his beloved wife and eldest son, he still feels incredibly happy to meet his newborn granddaughter Ashara, who was named after her late grandmother.

Histories & Lore

  • From Myke's Histories & Lore part, we get to see a completly different side of Myke, who is mostly stern and serious by the time the main story is set. Here, he is seen with a younger Kortney, which also gives us a glimpse of her life before her tragic mistake of running away from home, showing both in a father-daughter relationship, with Myke genuinely moved by the young girl's affection and her adoring the stories he has to tell.
  • Gwendis' Histories & Lore part is mostly a Tearjerker, but the closeness of her and Naemon does hold quite a bit of Heartwarming as well. It is made clear how much the siblings depend on each other after the tragic loss of their mother, with Gwendis slowly stepping into the role Valaena left in Naemon's life.
  • Naemon's Histories & Lore part is set much later than Gwendis' part, though it is shown that neither sibling has ever stopped depending on the other. Their interaction is positively encouraging, especially from Gwendis side, yet still teasing in a well-intentioned way, as she is equal parts matchmaker and third wheel during his evening with a stable girl that he fancied.
  • Isabella's Histories & Lore part is notably the first time Jamison is seen as a Jerk with a Heart of Gold and not as a straight Jerkass. His interaction with Isabella brings out a much softer side than anything seen by him before, as for the first time in the story, he is shown to actually care for someone else's feelings.
