• The ending of Why We Should NOT Look For Aliens. The concept, represented by a hunter in a dark forest, is that alien civilizations- separated by light years and huge gaps in technology- could view each other as such an existential threat that they may either lay low or destroy each other at the first opportunity, just to ensure their own survival. And yet the story of the hunter ends with him coming to a warm and sunny clearing full of flowers, stopping to admire them, then hearing a noise and coming eye-to-eye with another hunter. Both of them are terrified and the hunter considers hiding, running or fighting...but decides to take a deep breath and heads into the clearing. The other follows and the two of them meet together in peace. Maybe our fears that Aliens Are Bastards are just that- fears, not reality.
• Why we WILL stop Climate Change is a message from Kurzgesagt that the future is not doom and gloom, but that there are genuinely positive trends in the areas needed to solve the climate crisis. Trends that would've seemed like absurdly wishful thinking just a decade ago are finally coming to fruition. Above all, it's not only okay to be hopeful about the future but that it's necessary. That the tools we have today have the power to solve the problem, and the biggest roadblock to stopping climate change left is hopelessness and apathy. For a channel that has a reputation for existential horror, it's easily the most empowering video they could've made.
