Mangetsu always talks about how empty she feels and how she wants to be important and special somehow. Spending time with Shingetsu and helping her fight makes her feel like she's accomplishing something in life.
Shingetsu also returns the sentiment; after a history of being isolated and alone for her magical abilities, having a friend for the first time in a long time is a miracle to the poor girl.
This feeling doesn't even change when it's revealed that Mangetsu is a doll made to support Shingetsu in the Granbelm. Mangetsu is still glad to have a chance to be alive and be Shingetsu's friend, while Shingetsu even considers going back on her ideals in order to keep Mangetsu from fading away from existence.
In the end, Mangetsu's speech before her death sums up how much she values life and Shingetsu's resolve to end all magic.
