The Outsiders

  • When Hylas encounters a tied up dog that has no owner in sight, he can't bear the thought of the Crows killing it like they killed Scram, so he takes the dog close to Neleos' village in the hope of the villagers taking care of it. He later spots the dog being safely with one of the village boys.
  • Hylas nearly gives up on trying to reach the Island of the Fin People in a hopeless situation, but he regains his resolve to live when he remembers Issi and his only memory of their mother who told him to look after his little sister.
  • Spirit first meets Hylas when the dolphin's pod saves the boy from a shark. After several faux pas, Hylas and Spirit gradually start understanding one another as the dolphin helps the exhausted boy to the Island of the Fin People.
  • Hylas and Pirra are afraid they failed to get Spirit back to the Sea in time, but then the dolphin leaps from the Sea in perfect health. As the start of their friendship, Hylas finally asks Pirra her name before instructing her how to ride Spirit.
  • Though Hylas planned to leave Pirra on the island, he can't bring himself to leave her to a possibly slow death in the underground caves and helps her get out of the cave of the Vanished Ones.
  • After Hylas and Pirra fail to save a dying lion, they unblock the burned valley's spring to ensure more animals won't die from thirst.
  • When Hylas and Pirra have to bid each other farewell, he gives her a falcon's feather as an amulet and reassures her that she'll escape from her mother again with her bravery and determination.
  • As Hylas leaves the island, Spirit reappears to reconcile the rift that was born between them after the dolphin almost killed the boy by trying to show him the undersea world. Though they now know they can't be together, they still mentally promise to meet again one day.

Eye of the Falcon

  • After Hylas rescues Pirra from Taka Zimi, all it takes is some exchanged words, and Pirra finally forgives Hylas for forcing her to return to Keftiu.
  • It's just joyous when Havoc comes back to Hylas with the realization that he never really abandoned her.
  • When Akastos encounters Userref who's mourning Pirra's "death", he encourages the slave to return to Egypt and wishes him good luck in Egyptian. Even though this leads to the next book's events that cost Userref his life, it's nice of Akastos to offer compassion to a sad person who's a long way from home like he himself is.
  • Keftiu starts quickly turning back to life after the Sun shines for the first time in seven months. Though Pirra has decided to leave her homeland for good, she's happy it will recover.

The Crocodile Tomb

  • When Kawi's sad she can't make new clay animals for her killed dog Hebny to eat in afterlife, Pirra cheers her up by making them for her. Hylas also makes a palm-leaf ball for Hebny to play with because the little girl reminds him of Issi.
  • While watching some bees and Meritamen's little sister who reminds him of Issi, Telamon has a flashback of the day he, Hylas and Issi hunted wild bees together and enjoyed the honey they collected. Though he admonishes himself for being nostalgic, it's nice to get a reminder of the kinder boy he used to be.
  • While preparing to rescue Userref's spirit, Nebetku and Pirra share a brief moment of mutual understanding about the dead man they both loved as a brother. It's sweet of Nebetku to be able to act civil with the girl he blames for Userref's death.
  • When Hylas and Pirra are ready to begin the plan to get him inside the Crocodile Tomb, she tries once again to cover her scar out of embarrassment. Hylas tells her not to mind her scar because "the Moon has scars, but it's still beautiful". After spending a lot of time fearing her scar makes her look ugly in Hylas' eyes, Pirra gives him a tentative smile.
  • After Hylas manages to convince Userref's spirit that Pirra is alive, he tries to place Userref's wedjat amulet in the latter's coffin. Userref tells him to keep it instead, and it later saves Hylas from being killed by Telamon's arrow. Userref manages to help his surrogate little sister one more time by saving the life of her friend/love interest even though he's dead.
  • Hylas and Kem bid each other a warm farewell after the final showdown at the Nile. Hylas even gives Kem his lion-claw amulet which Kem is delighted about because his real name means "lion" in his native language. He also tells Hylas that during his years in slavery, his father never gave up hope of seeing his son again, and urges Hylas not to lose his hope of finding Issi.
  • In her final appearance, Meritamen is grateful to Hylas and Pirra for making the Crows leave and tries to atone for her actions by giving them both gifts and granting them safe-conduct to the coast. She also admits she envies Pirra for having a man who'd die for her.
  • Satisfied to know from her dream that Userref's spirit is safe and happy in Egyptian afterlife with Nebetku, Pirra bids her surrogate big brother farewell.

Warrior Bronze

  • Spirit finally makes a return since the first book by rescuing Hylas and Pirra from being found by Crow sentries.
  • By removing the painful bit from Jinx's mouth and patiently earning the trust of the abused stallion, Hylas makes the Moody Mount much nicer.
  • Echo is saved from dying out of sickness when Pirra's love prevents her from going into the light.
  • Issi quickly befriends Havoc who also becomes protective of the mute girl. It's also revealed that even though Hylas has been afraid his little sister hates her for not finding her sooner, Issi hasn't lost her faith that her big brother will come for her.
  • When Akastos reveals that Hylas' father was the Mountain Clan's leader who refused to help the Lion of Mycenea against the Crows, Hylas insists he did that out of cowardice, but Akastos defends the man and says he died nobly when he was eventually hunted down. Though the Cavalry Refusal of Hylas' father cost Akastos his place as the High Chieftain of Mycenea and let the Crows rise to power, the Lion of Mycenea understands the man was simply fallible and trying to think about the best of his people. Akastos also believes Hylas when the latter tells him he will stand by his side even though his father didn't. He also reassures the boy that being scared of the coming battle is not shameful, for even experienced warriors such as himself also feel like that.
  • Before Hylas rides off to confront Telamon for the last time, he embraces Pirra who shares her first kiss with him. After he has left, she realizes he also gave Userref's wedjat amulet back to her.
  • With things awkward between Hylas and Issi, he takes her to the coast to meet Spirit who plays with the mute girl. Hylas afterwards tells Issi he won't love her any less even though he's with Pirra and they can go to see Spirit whenever she likes. Issi gives Pirra a tentative smile to tell her she can come as well and holds Hylas' hand, making him feel he's finally reunited with his little sister.
  • Hylas and Pirra set Jinx free and send with him a mare Akastos provided. After they've done this, Hylas finally manages to ask Pirra to live with him in the mountains as his girl. The series ends with her accepting his proposal as Havoc, Echo and Issi share this happy moment with them.
