  • Fran's relationship with Mr. Midnight throughout the game. Their reunion in Chapter 2 is particularly effective: Fran is pictured as crying tears of joy while holding Mr. Midnight close, who is licking her face in happiness.
    • They are always hugging, calling each other "my dear", and constantly saying "I love you" whenever they are trying to comfort each other.
    • In Chapter 5, watching Mr. Midnight get thrown into the abyss angers Fran out of her sadness and actively attempt to strangle her aunt Grace, who she also loves very much and is the first time she commits violence in a rage.
  • Antonio the Greatest, an elderly ant-person, is very sweet to Fran. When it seems that the Beetlepig has eaten Mr. Midnight, he apologizes, and when Fran starts crying, he offers to sing for her to make her feel better. He even sacrifices his only friend so that she might get her cat back.
  • ITWARD. Just... Itward.
    • His first face-to-face appearance makes him seem creepy and just as untrustworthy as many other beings Fran has encountered on her journey. Hell, while on his flying ship, he locks Fran up and takes Mr. Midnight from her! However, when Fran escapes and finds herself in a darkened room, she turns on the light... and finds herself at a surprise birthday party Itward had been planning for her with Mr. Midnight's assistance.
    • Combined with Moment of Awesome, Itward has shown himself to be a Big Damn Hero twice.
      • When Fran is trying to escape the Oswald Asylum, Remor appears just as she steps outside of the building and starts dragging her back inside. Something behind him scares him off and makes him drop Fran onto the ground unharmed. Then the mechanical Mr. Midnight on its unicycle appears at the door of the asylum and guides Fran to the end of the hedge maze. Since it makes its last appearance on Itward's flying ship, and Itward had been seen actively helping Fran in the Ultrareality during her escape, it can be assumed Itward was the one to get Remor to back off.
      • In the last chapter, after Fran is shot, Itward suddenly appears to throw Aunt Grace into the abyss and push Oswald out of the room to defend her. He also summons Palontras to heal Fran and accompanies them and Mr. Midnight back to Ithersta.
    • "I will always take care of you, my dear..."
  • Some aspects of Doctor Deern's personality are this, in a Nightmare Fuel inducing sort of way. Not only does he turn out to be a good guy with Fran's welfare at heart all along, it turns out he was abused by his father as a child. This is probably the experience that led him to become a child psychiatrist: to try and help kids who had the same experiences.
Fran: You're not a bad doctor, you're just an old man following the rules.
