  • The very first scene of the movie is continuing from the end of the last one. Tim tells Flint, out loud this time, that he's proud of him, giving him a crushing hug.
  • "Dad. Let's go fishing." Even if it wasn't literal, the joy Mr. Lockwood experiences in hearing his son say those words is touching.
    • Gets better when they actually do fish together at the end of the film. Flint squeals with adorkable glee when he catches a tiny fish and asks if they can do this again — "like, all the time?". Mr. Lockwood is altogether too happy to agree.
  • Sam inviting Barb to join their gang, which she accepts.
  • The amount of times Flint tried to keep his dad from joining his group into the island to keep him safe is more Fridge when you think about the fact that his father was the only parent he had left.
Mr. Lockwood: I was born on that island, and I'm gonna die on that island! ... Like your mother.
  • It's small, but it's sweet to what degree Flint and Brent have forgotten that they used to be enemies. When Chester tries to sow discord in the party by raising questions about Brent, Flint is initially confused, indicating that in a few weeks to months, he's completely switched his impressions of the guy from "the bully who spent our childhoods making my life miserable" to "my goofy but absolutely reliable friend."
  • Even when Chester V convinces Flint not to trust Brent, something sweet comes out of it. In response to Chester V's Chinese proverb about how soup offered by a former bully is probably poisoned, she has a Chinese saying of her own to counteract it: "A bully made friend is a friend for life." She's only known reformed Brent for a relatively short while, and even she already sees he's a far more trustworthy person than in the first movie alone.
  • Flint's reaction to the living marshmallows.
  • Throughout Barry looks to Flint with outstretched arms and makes a nonsensical sound, "Eh-Woo." Later in the film, it turns out that the Remote Control Television has shown the creatures a recording of Flint demonstrating the FLDSMDFR, albeit with parts missing, and Flint referred to as "Eh-Woo." The Foodimals are really quite friendly and benign, but they see Flint as their creator.
  • After Flint's failure in the vesting ceremony, he tells Sam and Tim that his mom gave him the vest because she thought he would do great things and now he won't. Tim immediately tells him thats a "big bucket of chum", the closest thing that he can to calling it BS.
  • Sam likewise supports him, saying he doesn't need to orange vest to be a great inventor.
  • Tim's friendship with the Pickles, who he teaches to fish after he finds they enjoy sardines as much as him.
  • Flint saving Barb from the Tacodile (Supreme).
    • The reveal soon after that the Tacodile was protecting her babies, with them nuzzling up to their mother.
  • A subtle one is the relationship between Tim Lockwood and Sam. They get along beautifully, and Tim really seems grateful for her stable influence on his son. It's particularly sweet considering how awkward Tim was at showing affection to Flint in the first movie; in the sequel he calls his son's girlfriend "my dear" and they both make a cake for Flint after the vesting ceremony.
  • The Creative Closing Credits showing humans and Foodimals coexisting in Swallow Falls, set to the sweet little ukulele love song “La Da Dee” by Cody Simpson.
