Headscratchers / Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2

• If this takes place right after Flint and his friends save the world, then what happened to everything shown during the credits of the first film (Flint and Tim making a roof-sealing company with the Spray-On Shoes, for instance)?
  • Nothing that says Cloudy 2 can't be an interquel.

• At the beginning of the movie, Chester V says that his first invention was the "humble food bar" while he shows a picture of himself as a teenager with his invention. Later in the film, Chester says that he invented his wedgie-proof underwear when he was three. What's up with that?
  • Maybe he meant his first marketed invention?
  • He could have just been lying about when he invented the underwear or food bars. It's not like it would be out of character.

• If Chester wanted to use Flint's artificial food in his new food-bars, why not just ask Flint to make another food-making machine?
  • Right at the start of the movie Flint and Sam swore they'd never make a machine like that again, after all the destruction it caused.

• If Flint's dream was to join Chester V and his Thinkquanauts, then why didn't he just leave Swallow Falls to pursue his career?
  • His dad wanted him around, and he didn't seem like the sort of person that would just abandon his old man even if it's to pursue his lifelong dream.
  • He might also have wanted an invention that actually worked to show just how much potential he had as an employee. After all, Chester V himself only showed interest in Flint after his "success" with the FLDSMDFR.
  • It also costs a lot of money to move away that far, especially if he wants to live in a big city near Livecorp, and he wouldn't be guaranteed a job and income just from moving.

• Is Sam still wearing her Jell-O scrunchie from the first film? Months have presumably passed... genetically modified or not, that thing should have melted to goo by now. Come to think of it, all that leftover food piled up should be rotting, inedible, and pretty foul-smelling.
  • She could have easily replaced it with a regular one after the townsfolk get relocated; they're not exactly expensive or hard to find, and she'd have breathing room to pick some up now that the FLDSMDFR is no longer causing a foodpocalypse. As for the matter of rotting food, the opening scene establishes that Live Corp has started getting things cleaned up, and considering how unusual the food is in every other way, it's not implausible that it doesn't go bad as fast or as easily as "normal" food would.

• At the end of the prior movie and even at the beginning of this one Brent is still looking like a cooked chicken with a human head but around the time they arrive on their new home he looks normal again. My question is: How did he recover? Was that ever explained?
  • He was just wearing it, not turned into a chicken. Eat his way out, find a large pair of scissors, something along those lines.

• Why didn't Chester V use the food that was rained all over the world he cleaned up to make his Food Bars V8.0? There's clearly enough to make those for a good long while
  • As someone said, months have probably passed. Chester could be sued for using inedible food in his food bars, after all.

• If Brent is just dressed like a baby, then why is it that when the cop asks why the diaper's still on he says "I wish I had time to grab a fresh one," assuming he isn't some weird dude?
