Heartwarming / Civilian Pianist

Go To

  • An early moment, but the first half of Chapter 5. Tomoko catches up with the reality of her situation, and when doubting herself, Hikari finds her to say just what her daughter needed. Good Parents indeed.
Hikari: "Mommy still can't believe it either, you know? Daddy was a full-time ninja, and yet Lord Hokage knew he had to go and let him go. What the Academy and a lot of ninja don't tell you is that the life of a shinobi is hard, Tomoko-chan. It was a lot harder being a civilian and loving a person like Daddy. That's why Nagareboshi Cafe is here in the first place. Nagareboshi is here to make the lives of ninja and civilians a bit more bearable. Even if you're not a shinobi, you will face conflict and strife at some point in your life. We provide comfort and a helping hand when people need it. So don't think you're not doing enough, Tomoko-chan. Your piano is a lot more heavenly than you think, ok?"
  • Kakashi's parting words to Tomoko in Chapter 9 before his last Chunin Exams match. She was getting really worried about him to the point of being a Deadpan Snarker, and he reassures her with one of the sweetest things a young ninja could ever say. This moment alone solidified the True Companions between them.
Kakashi: "Quit being an idiot and just believe in me, okay? I'll always protect my friends - that's my ninja way. And how can I do that when I don't come back?"
  • The entirety of Chapter 13. The title says more than enough. Let's Just Live, indeed.
    • When Tomoko notices Kakashi being more depressed than usual, she doesn't judge him or say anything demeaning. Instead, she just pulls him into a hug, telling him how much his friendship means to her.
Tomoko: "Kakashi-kun, we've been friends for almost 3 years now. Don't put it off as nothing, okay? You're my best friend, and I'm just worried about you. Don't take it as pity or anything like that, alright? Because I chose to care about you - I chose to worry about you. So don't take it as some kind of obligatory sympathy - because I chose to become your friend and be with you, alright? So it's my choice to ask you and try to help you."
    • The entire concert scene for the Hatake Family. No wonder Sakumo started crying Tears of Joy. The song choices from RWBY and Kingdom Hearts were more than enough.
  • Chapter 17: Kakashi finds Tomoko outside of the cafe in the early morning. She's clearly doubting herself, reeling from meeting Team Minato while fully KNOWING what will happen to them in canon, even wondering if he would still accept her knowing she is a Reincarnation. But then Kakashi says this that makes her nearly burst into tears.
Kakashi: "You don't owe me anything Tomoko. You told me that you chose to care for me. You chose to worry for me, to become my friend, Tomoko. So get it in your head that it's the same for me, okay?"
    Tomoko: ".....!"
Kakashi: "It was my choice to come out here, Tomoko. It was my choice to walk out here so early in the morning to find you when you weren't in your room. It was my choice that I became your friend, okay? So get it through your dense mind that I'm here by my own choice, alright? So if you need help, you can come to me. Don't hide it all by yourself - if you need me, I'll be there, alright?"
  • All of Chapter 23. The title Finding Inspiration definitely fits what goes on here.
    • Team Minato finally becomes a real team, with Obito rallying his comrades together in the common goal of preventing Tomoko's nightmares/memories from coming true.
      • Also, Kakashi coming out to Rin and Obito about Tomoko's condition when they ask him. The Heart of Gold is really apparent here, because Kakashi hesitates for only a MOMENT before relenting, because they deserved to know. To him, they were Tomoko's friends as much as he was.
    • Guy comes around to give Tomoko a big bouquet of white heather flowers out of the wish that she would find inspiration to return to the piano again after the 'drunk man incident'. The moment is made much sweeter when you find out that white heathers, in flower language, mean that "wishes will come true".
    • Tomoko's talk with Judai. Hearing a bit of Judai's backstory was already great enough as is, but the reader gets to see HOW much Judai loves his little girl, talking to her in a way that is both supportive and caring. No matter what decision she would make in the future, Judai would be there to support her. Give this guy a "Best Parent of the Year" award already!
Judai: "No matter what happens, you'll always be Tomoko-chan, my little hime. I love you, you know that?"
    • And to top it all off, the ending of the chapter. Obito's POV ends with just this:
Obito: Even in this time of war, even after all that had happened.
The Civilian Pianist was finally back.
  • At the end of Chapter 24 and the beginning of Chapter 25, Minato just got around to asking Tomoko what she knows about the Nine-Tailed Fox. Even though he was the Yellow Flash and could've easily sent the girl to Interrogation, Minato went out of his way to ask her directly, clearly regretting the upcoming conversation because of his bond with her. When Tomoko sees his hesitation, she immediately relents to telling him as much as she could because he deserved it.
    • Also, Minato's easy acceptance of Tomoko's 'nightmares'/memories and his immediate attempts to comfort her. Minato does share a lot of similarities with his future son after all.
Minato: "Think about it, Tomoko-chan. You could've easily kept it to yourself. You didn't have to do anything. And yet, here you are, talking with me freely about it. That takes a lot of courage, even for a 9 year old girl."
  • Despite all the tension in Chapter 26, there was one standout Heartwarming Moment. Inoichi is about to dive into Tomoko's mind again with Jiraiya, the Third Hokage, and Minato all on watch. Tomoko's understandably nervous, so what's the first thing she asks? For Minato to hold her hand and remind her that she's not alone. Minato doesn't even hesitate in doing so.
    • Also, Hisako's protective behavior towards Tomoko. Even when encountering Inoichi Yamanaka, one of the best Interrogators known in Konoha, the split personality doesn't hesitate in calling him out on his bullshit, keeping her ground and terrifying him all at once. And this is the man who was one of Judai's old comrades that went on to be Ino's father! Also crossing over with Moment of Awesome.
  • Chapter 36 shows the aftermath of a rather disastrous front-line mission for Team Minato. What does the Hoshino Family do? Invite Obito and Rin over for the kids to have a sleepover, of course!
    • Also, Kakashi's hug from behind to Tomoko. The civilian was in the middle of making breakfast, only for his hug to surprise her and lead to a very cute argument over Kakashi not letting her go to work.
  • Chapter 39: Kakashi finally realizes that he has a crush on Tomoko. Has shades of Funny too, thanks to his reactions.
    • Also, Kakashi and Guy's conversation that night. It turns out that Might Dai has recently passed away, and the first thing Kakashi does is offer words of comfort to his Eternal Rival.
  • Chapter 40: Kushina is worried about Tomoko, considering her recent luck in the drunk man incident and the whole thing with Satoru, only for Tomoko to pull Kushina into a Cooldown Hug and say otherwise.
  • Chapter 42: Tomoko giving the Wayfinders to Team Minato plus Minato and Kushina at the village gates before Kannabi, saying that they all are a part of her family and she wants them to come home safely. Also, Tomoko's kiss to Kakashi's cheek before he left, allowing the duo to separate on the promise of talking when the mission was over. Fans of the pairing officially rejoiced.
    • In front of the Memorial Stone, when Judai starts berating himself about the memory of Johan's sacrifice over a weak man like himself, Tomoko tries to interrupt to say otherwise.
Tomoko: "But Papa, you're not weak. You were able to protect me, Mama, and everybody before."
    • Another moment, but after Judai says his bit in front of the Memorial Stone, Tomoko stays behind to pay her respects. Her next words said it all.
      Tomoko: "Hello Uncle Johan."
  • Chapter 44: Team Minato all come home, safe and sound. Tomoko cries Tears of Joy long before reaching Kakashi.
  • Chapter 49: The First Kiss and Big Damn Kiss between Kakashi and Tomoko. The dialogue that followed between the two made the moment all the more sweeter.
    • Also, the implied Milholland Relationship Moment on Kakashi's part. Tomoko, ever since the beginning of the story, constantly worried about whether her loved ones would continue to have her with them in spite of her past self's memories and actions, and when asking Kakashi the simple question of, "Would you still have me?", this is his response:
Kakashi: "It was you. Always you. And I know something's going on. But it doesn't matter. I love you. That's not going to change."
