Even in a universe where war is a way of life and the battlefield is ruled by giant robots, there are still stories of hope and humanity.

  • While the Periphery is often stereotyped as a lawless backwater home to pirates, Clanners and rogue nations, three of its states have managed to surpass the expectations of the "civilized" Successor States: The Taurian Concordat, the Axumite Providence and the Magistracy of Canopus.
    • The Taurian Concordat is a Properly Paranoid state that is constantly threatened by the Federated Suns and lags far behind their rivals both economically and technologically. They also happen to be a society that boasts an outstanding education system and literacy rate to match, alongside a policy of free expression that has allowed publishing companies and their literature to flourish. Plus, a humanist economic system that ensures a living wage and ample unemployment benefits for all its citizens.
    • The Magistracy of Canopus is a Periphery state known for its rampant hedonism and self-indulgence, famous for having a thriving adult entertainment industry and a large number of what it calls "pleasure circuses." While it sounds like a sleazy place on paper and even though its education system is a complete trainwreck, the Magistracy prides itself on having the most progressive human rights policies in known space.
    • The Axumite Providence is a Deep Periphery state situated one thousand lightyears from Terra and has just enough technological know-how to maintain an interplanetary society. While its traditional Islamic focus on learning has given it a very high literacy rate, what makes the Axumite Providence truly lucky is the fact that their distance has kept them safe from the centuries of total warfare that have come to define Inner Sphere politics.
  • Battlemechs have become so ingrained into human culture and consciousness that kids would often play "mechs" in streets, yards and playgrounds. This is either wholesome and adorable or a worrying sign of how prevalent warfare is in the Inner Sphere, but we'll go with the former for the sake of this page.
  • One of the defining aspects of Clan Ghost Bear's culture is their emphasis on familial piety. Unlike the stubborn Jade Falcons or the bloodthirsty Smoke Jaguars, the Ghost Bears actually bothered to rebuild and improve their conquered territories, eventually moving into the Inner Sphere and becoming one with the Rasalhague Republic (later known as the Rasalhague Dominion).
  • The Voice of Kerensky, a message Aleksandr Kerensky sent by a standard radio signal, which wouldn't be heard by the Inner Sphere for centuries. In it, he explains his reasons for leaving the Inner Sphere, expresses his love for its people, and his hope that one day its people can learn to live in peace.
"To all citizens of the Inner Sphere do I, Aleksandr Kerensky, send greetings. Know that I have taken the remnant of the Star League Defense Force which has remained true to its purpose beyond the boundaries of the Inner Sphere, beyond the Periphery. I have done this, neither out of disappointment with those whom we leave behind, nor out of spite or disdain, as some will say. No, we have left the Inner Sphere because we love it too much to see it destroyed. In the wake of the Usurper's coup, and the long, bitter fighting that came with it, I fear that my forces would do incalculable, possibly irreparable, harm to our society. We are sworn to ward the Star League and its subjects, not destroy it. Thus, we have left the only homes we have ever known to place the destructive capability of this armada beyond the reach of those who would use it, not for defense, but for conquest. Perhaps, with the might of our 'Mechs and ships out of reach, the leaders who now grapple with one another will relinquish their dreams of subjugating their neighbors and learn to live in peace with them. Perhaps, one day, should mankind step back from the brink of the abyss, we, our children, or our children's children will return, to once more serve and protect and guide the Star League in mankind's quest for the stars."
  • After centuries in exile, Aleksandr Kerensky's body is returned to Terra and laid to rest when Clan Wolf becomes the ilClan.
