Arachnid has a curious habit of subverting heartwarming scenes. About everything nice that happens either immediately turns to tragedy or is revealed to have been done in bad faith by a manipulative person.- Alice and Kumo acknowledge each other as daughter and father... after Kumo forced her into a Duel to the Death and Alice has already mortally wounded him. She shoots Kumo in the head and starts screaming.
- Alice cares a lot about Kuramoto and wants to save her from being Sara's sex slave, while Kuramoto at one point declares it's no big deal if she suffers under Sara as long as Alice escapes unscatched... but Kuramoto is playing Alice for a fool the whole time.
- Yoriko tells Alice she doesn't mind Alice has killed people before or has lied about not having done so; she's a good person deep down and they can be friends... and then Sasori poisons her to death from out of left field. But wait, Yoriko didn't actually die and... is the damn Boss of the Organization who's responsible for every single misfortune Alice has suffered throughout the story. She made Alice's father kill her mother, bullied Alice out of spite, used her mind reading to weasel her way into Alice's heart and now wants to force Alice to become her right-hand woman after casually executing her father.
- In the climax, Kabutomushi saves Alice's life with Megumi's help and happily tells her she kept her promise after all. It's one of the few nice things she ever does, but... she just comes off as insensitive to both Alice and Goki due to killing Yoriko, their friend who was the true villain all along, in the process.
- After the Arachnid Hunt, Alice becomes a depressed mess because she killed Kuramoto, her deadbeat dad got murdered, the Kumoito is lost, Yoriko fell to her death while still declaring her love for her and now Japan has turned to ruin thanks to Kuramoto's death. Gokiburi then expresses her gratitude for how much Alice cared for her since they first became allies and Alice gives her a big hug, declaring Goki an irreplaceable existence to her. This is followed by a shot of Goki looking utterly nefarious, as she plans to exploit Alice's emotional vulnerability to have sex with her, even if she has to "forcefully rape" her.
