- Nello instantly taking a liking to Patrasche and rescuing from Ensor. The dog never knew a kind owner before he met him and Jehan, and they have been inseperable since.
- The various neighbours of Nello that step in to care for him when his grandfather dies - Michel wants to adopt him, Nulette is still heavily concerned about him and Gustus and Isabel reject Sergio's milk as a show of solidarity with him.
- Nello and Patrasche working hard to retrieve Blackie to Nulette, knowing that she's going to leave very soon. Nullette is touched, but then gives Nello permission to keep the duck, promising she'll be back to visit them both.
- When Alois is ill, she asks Nello not to come inside as she doesn't want him to see her in her current state. However, she does ask for a drawing. The Cogez's Butler allows Nello inside and marvels at his masterpiece of a drawing, and as he passes it on to her he tells Nello that she loved it.
- George and Paul frequently showing up for Nello after he saved the latter from drowning. They help him deliver milk, accompany him to Alois', and when Nello is considered a pariah for starting a fire (which he didn't do), they instantly rebuke his naysayers.
- Alois' Birthday Episode. Nello works hard to find the specific type of flowers she adores, and even though the rest of the partygoers look down upon him, she tells him it's the greatest gift she's ever gotten.
- Ellina supports her daughter's friendship with Nello and every time Baas shames her and Alois, she always defends her. She tells Baas that he's wrong to call Nello lazy and she can see how hardworking he is, and Alois insists he'll be a great artist. Baas actually does eventually come to realize they're right.
- The doctor that visits the Cogezes who confirms that Nello's presence was beneficial for Alois, saying that it helped reduce her stress.
- Even though Isabel and Gustus refuse to buy milk from Nello, Isabel offers him money because she knows Nello will starve without an income. Though Nello rejects her offer.
- Hendrick Ray wishing to adopt Nello, realizing the little boy he met a long time ago is potentially the secondcoming of Peter Paul Rubens. He even tries to convince the other judges to nominate Nello's art piece as the winning item, but they refuse.
- Hell, Hendrick Ray seeing Nello's potential as an artist. Even though he lost the competition, he still made up his mind to adopt the boy and send him to a good school, while also ensuring he would be well fed and taken care of.
- Andre refuses to hate Nello like his father wants to, and gives him and Patrasche some extra food behind his back.
- Alois is told by her father not to interact with Nello hundreds of times - and each time she defies him, even telling him she will pray for him on the day of the art competition.
- When Baas loses 2,000 francs, Patrasche uses his sense of smell to retrieve them. Baas falls to his knees as he realizes Alois was right and asks her to recall Nello. Alois also rewards Patrasche with a huge feast.
